"You still know fear?" the Eighth Prince sneered.
The Ninth Prince smiled bitterly: "Eighth Brother, you know that the only woman I'm afraid of is my Eighth Sister-in-law. She was such a cute girl when she was little, but she's become less and less likable as she's grown up. What woman is like her, always wielding a sword and spear? She's even worse than a man."
The Eighth Prince remained unmoved by his complaints, shook his head, and mocked, "If you were even half as good as your Eighth Sister-in-law, how could you have ended up like this? How dare you speak ill of her! You've always been arrogant and wouldn't listen to anyone, so it was only a matter of time before you suffered a loss. You should know that not everything is within your control. Fortunately, it's just that your appearance has been ruined, and with the help of the imperial physicians, you can recover. If you had suffered an even greater loss, it would have been too late for regrets."
The Ninth Prince wanted to say to his Eighth Brother, "You're spoiling your Eighth Sister-in-law too much. You're actually comparing me to her."
Remembering her current state, how could she possibly talk back? She swallowed the words in her mouth, filled with resentment.
"I still don't understand why Lady Liu did this. I ask myself if I have ever treated her unfairly." Unwilling to talk about these things any further, the Ninth Prince changed the subject.
As for Liu, she had been spoiled for a while, so it would be a lie to say she wasn't upset.
Even though she was furious, she still kept it from her mother, only confining her to her quarters. If her mother knew that it was Liu who did it, ten lives wouldn't be enough to kill her.
"Do you still remember who you offended?" The Eighth Prince shook his head helplessly, reminding the Ninth Prince.
The Ninth Prince was completely baffled: "What does Eighth Brother mean by this? Could it be that someone is using Lady Liu to plot against me?" He then scoffed: "Eighth Brother, you are worrying too much. Even if I have offended someone, who would dare to oppose me? Is that person out of their mind?"
They didn't take his words seriously.
Originally, he didn't want to say much, but seeing his confident and arrogant appearance, the Eighth Prince couldn't do anything about his Ninth Brother.
"A few days ago, you plotted against Zhao Jia and Yue. Xiang Yi was initially angry with you, but then she laughed. According to her, Zhao Jia and Yue are not good people. If they find out that you were the one who did it, they will not let it go easily. Xiang Yi even said she wanted to see a good show."
The Eighth Prince glanced at the fascinating expression on his face and thought to himself, "Well, here comes the show."
The Ninth Prince clenched his fists, gritting his teeth: "Whose side is Eighth Sister-in-law on?!" Suddenly remembering something, he glanced at the Eighth Prince indifferently and sneered: "Eighth Brother, you really love to joke. You really believe everything your Eighth Sister-in-law says? Zhao Jia and Yue were drugged at the time, how could they know it was me? Even if they knew, would she be so desperate as to scheme against me?"
The Ninth Prince really didn't take that little brat seriously. Even though he had personally witnessed the Thirteenth Prince suffer at her hands, it was only because the Thirteenth Prince didn't want to hit a woman and intentionally let her have her way.
The Eighth Prince shook his head and sighed softly: "Xiangyi is right. You really did lose because of your contempt for women."
The Ninth Prince was furious: "Eighth Brother! What kind of bewitching potion has Eighth Sister-in-law given you that you're helping her mock me!"
“I think what Xiangyi said makes a lot of sense.” The Eighth Prince patted his shoulder and smiled gently: “Ninth Brother, you should take care of yourself. You must not underestimate women, especially Xiangyi and Zhaojia Heyue. As far as I know, Zhaojia Heyue is even more vengeful than Xiangyi.”
Amidst the Ninth Prince's blazing anger, the Eighth Prince rose and slowly walked away.
In May, Emperor Kangxi returned to the capital.
He Yue had been worried for several days, and only breathed a sigh of relief when she learned that Thirteen had returned safely.
This was the first time Heyue had ever missed Shisan so much since they got married.
She was not a sentimental person by nature, and she never cared about or worried about what happened to Thirteen outside.
Granny Wang said that she had been too indifferent to Thirteen, and told her to learn to be gentle and flattering so as to firmly bind Thirteen's heart.
But how could she possibly learn it, given her personality?
Besides, why should she try to please men? She's not a man's pet or appendage.
This is her true nature; she has never thought of changing for anyone, because if she did, she wouldn't be herself anymore.
Ever since the red thread on her palm became abnormal, Heyue has been uneasy, dreaming about Thirteen getting into trouble every day, and she is absent-minded in everything she does.
She couldn't feel at ease until she saw Thirteen.
Fortunately, it was nearing evening when the thirteenth prince returned to his residence from the palace.
At that time, Heyue was copying the Surangama Sutra in the room. The late spring breeze was gentle, but it was not very cool. Instead, it was a bit stuffy because summer was approaching.
Knowing that the imperial carriage had returned to the capital, Heyue tried to remain calm all day while copying the Surangama Sutra, but she couldn't concentrate. Her handwriting wasn't as good as usual, and her mind had wandered off somewhere else.
When I came to my senses, I couldn't help but feel even angrier.
He was angry at the thirteenth prince who was far away in the palace, and also angry at himself.
Upon hearing the greetings from outside and the light footsteps of the person approaching, my pleasant mood instantly brightened. I put down my brush and hurried outside.
Seeing that familiar, tall figure with her own eyes, He Yue's anxious heart was finally put at ease.
"Heyue, Master is back." As always, Thirteen strode towards her with eyes full of joy and excitement whenever he returned to the manor.
He Yue stopped two meters away from him, not getting any closer, and looked up at him with a faint smile.
Thirteen opened his arms and strode forward to hug Heyue tightly.
He Yue lifted her feet off the ground, put her hands on his shoulders, spun him around, and laughed along, patting his shoulder: "Stop fooling around!"
Thirteen gently put Heyue down as instructed, cupped her face in his hands, pressed his nose against hers, and his eyes shone with joy: "Heyue, I really missed you."
His hot breath on her face felt so real, and joy welled up from the bottom of her heart. Yet, she pulled him down to sit, her little face tense, and asked earnestly, "Are you hurt?"
