The red thread connecting their palms reminded He Yue that the "thirteen" before her was indeed thirteen, and that they were the same person, without any difference.
She didn't want to see him suffer and be lonely for the rest of his days, nor did she want to see him be affectionate with another woman, even if that woman was another version of herself.
She couldn't help but reach out and stroke the man's cheek, staring at him intently, almost drowning in his tender gaze, wishing she could stay with him like this for the rest of her life.
"Promise me you'll stay, okay?" The man covered her hand that was stroking his face, his voice low, husky, gentle, and seductive.
He Yue watched as his handsome face slowly enlarged and drew closer. A familiar yet unfamiliar aura enveloped her face, and a moment of clarity instantly surfaced in the depths of her mind. She subconsciously placed her hand on her lower abdomen.
Remembering her promise to have a child for Thirteen, and looking at the man who was getting closer and closer, a cold glint flashed in her eyes. She suddenly pushed him away and took two steps back.
As she stepped back, the red threads that had intertwined on their palms suddenly broke off, returning to their respective palms and gradually merging into their skin until they were no longer visible.
The girl opposite her, "Thirteen," looked aggrieved, as if hurt by her actions: "Why did you back away? Don't you want me anymore?"
Although I am still drawn to his expression and tone, my peaceful heart will no longer be disturbed.
Seeing him take another step closer, He Yue stepped back, looking at him coldly: "You are him, yet you are not him. I will not stay."
She paused, noticing a fleeting sadness in his eyes, then steeled herself, gently stroking her lower abdomen, a tender smile playing on her lips: "I'm carrying his child, how could I abandon him?"
A fierce glint suddenly appeared in his eyes as he glared at her lower abdomen with resentment, wishing he could tear it open. He looked at her again, his eyes already red: "Why? I am also him, why can't you stay? Why can't you treat me sincerely? What does he have that I don't? He's so stupid, he doesn't understand anything. You can feel sorry for him, but why can't you feel sorry for me!"
"Simply because you are not him, you wouldn't be as open and honest with me as he was. You would let me stay and suffer with you for your own sake, but he wouldn't. Besides, you are so hostile towards this child. If you really were him, why are you angry?"
Seemingly having figured something out, He Yue smiled faintly, her eyes surprisingly clear, unmoved by his words.
The man was speechless, his face turning pale and then flushed.
“He only has me, while your wife is there. She is the one who needs your love, not me.” He Yue looked at the woman who was still painting earnestly. That was the real Zhao Jia He Yue, not Zhao He Yue: “Such a gentle and resilient woman deserves anyone’s love and cherishing.”
His furious roar echoed in my ears: "No, I don't love her! I just want you to stay!"
He Yue shook her head helplessly, having lost the will to deal with him. The next moment, she suddenly felt dizzy and her vision blurred.
He opened his eyes, rubbing his forehead, and uttered a soft groan. Looking at the scene before him, he was momentarily stunned.
Where is this?
As I smelled the faint, soothing sandalwood scent in the air, my mind gradually cleared from a state of confusion.
Not far away is a filigree inlaid red stone incense burner, its wisps of smoke dancing in the air like the graceful figure of a woman.
The familiar sight before her eyes reminded her of everything that had happened before.
After leaving Fourth Prince's wife's place, I felt extremely tightness in my chest. I was thinking of taking a walk to clear my head when I happened to run into Fourth Prince, so I followed him to his study to sit for a while.
Who knew that he would fall asleep on the table while sitting there.
I had that dream again.
Thinking about how I dreamt I was pregnant, I don't know why I couldn't control my mouth and blurted it out.
It makes me want to laugh when I think about it; I'm really obsessed with having a child.
She glanced around and, sure enough, saw Prince Yong sitting behind his desk reading. When he saw she was awake, he looked up from behind his book and asked with a smile, "Awake?"
He Yue felt a little embarrassed by his slightly teasing tone, realizing that she had actually fallen asleep there, and the other person was her husband's brother.
Although I've been used to being free since childhood and there's no strict separation between men and women, I still feel that something is amiss.
She stood up, about to speak, when she couldn't help but cover her mouth and let out a huge yawn, tears welling up in her eyes.
She's really sleepy today; looks like she'll need to get a good night's sleep when she gets back.
I have never felt so tired.
Seeing her like this, Prince Yong frowned and put down the book in his hand: "Did you not sleep well last night?"
He Yue waved her hand: "It's nothing, I'm probably just too tired lately." She swung her arms and stretched, but when she saw that the Fourth Master's brows furrowed into a deep frown and his face stiffen, she quickly lowered her arms with an embarrassed smile.
Oh no, I actually showed this side of myself in front of someone as principled as Fourth Master. I'm getting more and more careless.
"Well, Fourth Brother, I'll head back now. I won't bother you any longer." It's best to slip away quickly, lest he lecture me about the rules again later.
Just as she was about to make her escape, Fourth Master said "Wait," and Heyue stopped in her tracks, wondering if he was about to reprimand her.
He sighed inwardly, but forced a calm expression. He turned around and asked, puzzled, "Is there anything else, Fourth Brother?"
Prince Yong walked up to her, stood with his hands behind his back, and looked her over for a moment before suddenly asking, "Is it because of the Wusu clan?"
He Yue: "???"
Looking up at him, confused, she noticed the seriousness in his dark eyes and froze.
“I know you are sad, but you shouldn’t put yourself in such a haggard state because of this. It’s good for your thirteenth brother that Wusu is pregnant. You should understand him.”
Hearing this, He Yue finally understood what he meant and couldn't help but smile wryly.
