Thirteen's face fell, and he looked uneasy.
Kangxi looked at Heyue and coldly snorted: "It's not that simple for me to grant your wish. Heyue, since you demand that Yinxiang be devoted to you and that he only wants your offspring, then Yinxiang's offspring will be in your hands from now on. If he does not have any offspring within three years, I will bestow a marriage upon Yinxiang."
This time, Heyue's face looked terrible.
Thirteen, however, was beaming with joy and kowtowed, saying, "Your son thanks Your Majesty for granting your wish!"
He Yue wanted nothing more than to bite him to death.
Look how excited he is! Why did he agree so quickly? She hasn't agreed yet!
Is it too late for her to back out? At worst, we can just tell Thirteen not to touch that woman.
Emperor Kangxi was a cunning old fox; indeed, every benefit he gave came at a price.
However, having already spoken, they dared not raise any further objections.
As soon as Kangxi left, the Thirteenth Prince immediately feigned weakness, clutching his injured area and groaning.
Upon seeing him in such a state, Heyue no longer cared about what had just happened and quickly helped him lie down.
Just as he was about to withdraw his hand, Thirteen immediately grabbed it tightly, observing her expression with anxious eyes: "Heyue, are you angry?"
Seeing his pitiful expression, what could He Yue do even if she was angry? After all, he was still injured, and she couldn't bear to blame him.
"No." Even so, a hint of reluctance was still visible on her face.
Thirteen did not let go of her hand and whispered, "I did not expect Father to do this. However, Heyue, do not worry. If you are unwilling, I will not force you. I will explain to Father in the future that even if I am punished by Father, I will never take another concubine."
His tone was firm, as if he meant what he said, but He Yue saw the sadness in his eyes and knew that he had always hoped that she would have another child for him, but he had always let her have her way.
How could He Yue not be moved by these words, spoken entirely for her own sake? Her heart wavered slightly.
"Alright, there's no need to say anymore. You're still weak. Let's talk about everything when you're better," Heyue comforted him.
Seeing that her expression was calm and gentle, and that she was truly not displeased, Thirteen was relieved, but he still held her hand and said in a rather willful tone, "You stay with Master."
He Yue felt helpless, but still nodded and lay down beside him.
As she watched him close his eyes and fall asleep peacefully, Heyue pondered Kangxi's words.
Despite her reluctance, she ultimately did not refuse and compromised.
If she didn't agree, could she really just stand by and watch him marry another woman? Or watch him be punished for disobeying the imperial decree?
He treated her with such sincerity that Heyue was unwilling to disappoint him any longer.
Touching her lower abdomen, a deep sense of unease welled up between her brows. The thought of the pain of childbirth made her want to back out.
However, now that Kangxi's words are equivalent to an imperial edict, for the sake of the thirteenth prince and for the sake of future peace, this child must be born whether or not.
In the days that followed, no news of assassins came from Kangxi. It was unclear whether they hadn't found anything or if they had but didn't want to publicize it.
Thirteen seemed completely unconcerned about this, eating and drinking as he pleased, occasionally indulging in some local delicacies, living a life that couldn't be more comfortable.
He Yue, however, was different; she wished she could peel off a layer of the other person's skin.
Even if the other party is of high status, a woman's revenge is never too late, even after ten years; she refuses to believe she will never have a chance.
He Yue couldn't help but ask Thirteen if he had any thoughts about the assassination attempt that day, hoping that he had discovered something at the time.
Thirteen held her in his arms and advised her in a nonchalant tone, "You don't need to ask about this anymore. Since there's no news from Father Emperor, it's clear that it's not good to make a fuss about it. There's no point in pursuing it further."
He Yue was unwilling to give up and was also somewhat puzzled: "Do you really not care? You almost lost your life, why do you seem not to care about the outcome at all?"
This is what has been strange about her these past few days.
She didn't believe that Thirteen was completely indifferent. The only possible outcome was that he knew who it was, but couldn't say anything or care.
This silent answer seemed to have already said something, but even if the other party was of noble status, was Thirteen just going to suffer this ordeal for nothing?
Heyue could not accept this outcome.
Thirteen didn't give her a chance to continue speaking; the next moment, Heyue's mouth was sealed shut.
After a moment of silence, He Yue wanted to push him, but considering his injury, she couldn't do it and could only let him be.
After many days of intimacy, Thirteen still seemed reluctant to leave, his fingers caressing her chin with a deep smile.
"With you by my side and taking care of me these days, life has been like paradise on earth. How could I have any resentment? I am even grateful for this injury."
He Yue pinched his cheek in annoyance: "You speak without thinking! Don't try to change the subject. I know even if you don't say it, isn't that right, Your Highness?"
Thirteen covered her mouth with his hand, his expression changing drastically.
Heyue frowned, whimpered, and glared at him, signaling him to let go.
She's already chased all the maids away, and there's no one else around, so what's there to be afraid of?
Thirteen reluctantly let go, raised his index finger, shushed him, frowned, and said with a very serious expression: "You can't just say things like that."
He Yue rolled her eyes. "Isn't it just the truth? Why are you so panicked?"
Seeing her expression, Thirteen knew exactly what she was thinking. He held her hand and smiled bitterly, "This really isn't the Crown Prince's doing. You don't need to resent him so much."
He Yue's eyes widened. "No? Who is that?"
In her mind, who else but the Crown Prince could so easily allow an assassin to infiltrate the Mulan Hunting Grounds and then have Kangxi conceal the truth after the incident?
“If it were truly the Crown Prince, he probably wouldn’t be so composed right now. After all, it’s an assassination attempt on Father Emperor, which is tantamount to treason, and the Crown Prince wouldn’t be able to get Father Emperor’s forgiveness,” Thirteen said slowly.
