Thirteen went to the front yard leisurely.
Heyue sat down and took a sip of tea, while Hailan thought to herself, "The Fujin is really good-natured. Isn't it a bit inappropriate for Cui Yan to address the Madam like that?"
"Huh? What?" Heyue looked at Hailan with a questioning gaze.
Hailan's face looked terrible at the moment, as if someone owed her hundreds of taels of silver.
He Yue raised an eyebrow. Who had offended her? Cui Yan?
What term of address upset her?
Hailan complained angrily, "Didn't you hear them calling you 'Master' and 'Young Mistress'?"
"Hmm, what's wrong?" Heyue nodded. It was just a form of address, why was she making such a fuss?
Besides, there's nothing wrong with the way you address someone.
Hailan stomped her foot in anger, criticizing Heyue's carelessness: "You're being too irresponsible! Logically speaking, there's no problem, but Cui Yan and her family were originally servants of the Fujin's family. Later, they followed the Fujin to marry into the Thirteenth Prince's household, so they were still your servants. Now that they're out, they should be calling him 'Master' and 'Son-in-law,' but she's calling him 'Master' and 'Young Master,' while you've become the 'Young Mistress,' as if she were a servant brought out by the Master."
He Yue blinked. She really hadn't thought that much about it. How could a simple form of address cause such a commotion?
But now that he knows, he doesn't care: "Maybe it was an accident. Besides, Thirteen and I are husband and wife, family. Aren't the people I brought out his people too? What's the difference?"
Hailan was at a loss for words, exasperated: "Yes, it's not wrong for others to address him like that, but now the master only has you by his side, there are no other women. Cui Yan is a young woman, and it's inevitable that she would have other thoughts when facing someone like the master. Her way of addressing him clearly shows that she has ulterior motives. And you still let her study with the master, isn't that like inviting a wolf into the house?"
He Yue stroked her chin, her eyes deep and thoughtful.
Hailan thought that Heyue had finally taken it to heart and breathed a sigh of relief. She then offered Heyue some advice: "Madam, if you are worried, I will send someone to keep an eye on her and make sure she does nothing to harm you."
Seeing her protective attitude, He Yue chuckled and shook her head: "No need."
Hailan deflated immediately, indignantly asking, "Why? Aren't you worried?"
He Yue shook her head, her expression indifferent: "I really don't care, because I trust Thirteen. Besides, isn't there still Cui He?"
Regardless of Cui Yan's intentions, He Yue believed that Thirteen would not betray her.
If he had such intentions, he wouldn't have ignored so many women in the household and favored Heyue alone for so many years.
Compared to those women, Cui Yan is really nothing.
Even Nian Yuzhu, whom you met before, was much prettier and more delicate than Cui Yan. If you are nervous about this, then that really shows a lack of trust in your relationship.
Of course, if it were anyone else, Heyue would never tolerate anyone coveting her husband, and would have driven them away as soon as she noticed any signs of it.
But Cui Yan was different; she was Steward Cui's daughter, and Steward Cui was always loyal. He Yue didn't want to hurt Steward Cui's feelings over such trivial matters.
It's better this way. If Cui Yan is sensible and realizes that Thirteen has no interest in him, she will definitely back down.
If they don't know their place, Steward Cui will teach them; there's no need to bother with pleasantries.
Hailan muttered unhappily, "That's true, but Cui He is Cui Yan's brother. How can he not think about his own sister?"
"Alright, alright, what's the big deal?" Heyue waved her hand, instantly putting the matter out of her mind.
Hailan was alone, brooding.
Although Heyue didn't say anything, Hailan just couldn't swallow her anger and secretly had someone keep an eye on the activity in the study in the front yard.
An hour later, Hailan rushed in, interrupting Heyue's crooked sewing.
"What's the matter that you're in such a hurry?" Heyue almost pricked her finger. Looking at the poorly sewn bellyband in front of her, with crooked and twisted threads, she couldn't help but sigh.
She really wasn't cut out for needlework, and seeing Hailan like this again, she couldn't help but be surprised.
Hailan's face was clouded with anger, and she gritted her teeth: "Madam, look, this is what you meant by being at ease and not worried about Cui Yan having feelings for Master? How blatant is this?"
He Yue's heart skipped a beat, and she asked nervously, "What's wrong?"
Could something really have happened? He immediately shook his head. Impossible, Thirteen isn't that kind of person.
He Yue pretended to be calm, but in reality she was extremely worried. Hai Lan's appearance was clearly a bad sign.
Hailan's face darkened, and she snorted, "You sent her to study with the master, but she did it. When the new maid went to serve tea, she eagerly took it herself and handed it to the master, even exchanging flirtatious glances with him, trying to seduce him. Luckily, the master ignored her, but this is just too infuriating. Does she think everyone else is blind?"
He Yue breathed a sigh of relief; she hadn't thought it was anything serious.
His expression immediately darkened.
I thought it was just a girl's little thoughts, but who knew it would be so blatant.
However, since she only served tea and didn't do anything else out of line, Heyue couldn't very well kick her out.
"Just don't let her get involved in these kinds of things in the future. Let her focus on her studies. What was Cui He's reaction?" He Yue suppressed her displeasure, pretending not to care, and asked again.
Hailan's expression softened: "Cui He is a good one. The master only told Cui Yan to put down her teacup without even glancing at her, but Cui He immediately scolded Cui Yan and told her to study hard."
He Yue nodded. It seemed that it was only Cui Yan's idea. As long as Butler Cui and Cui He did not have such thoughts, He Yue would tolerate it.
At 6:45 AM, Thirteen returned from the front. Hailan and Zhizhu greeted him and then withdrew.
