Chapter 397 Slightly larger than a needle's eye

"Where are the rebels? Huh? Where are the rebels?" The official arrived and searched around, shouting loudly, his face grim and frightening.

He Yue and Shisan exchanged glances, both quite disappointed that the local prefect was such a person.

His advisor looked helpless and reminded him, "Sir, the rebels are right in front of us."

As he spoke, he pointed to Pinggu, who was being held captive and unable to move.

When the prefect saw that it was a woman, he burst out laughing, his expression and tone extremely sarcastic. Pointing at her, he laughed until tears streamed down his face: "It's her? A woman? A rebel?"

Suddenly his face darkened, and he roared, "Who reported this to the authorities? Step forward! I'll chop him up!"

The advisor looked rather unwell and shook his head helplessly.

Thirteen patted Heyue's hand reassuringly, stepped forward a few paces, and cupped his hands in greeting: "It was my servants who reported this to the authorities."

"You?" The prefect sized up the man before him, then sneered, "Deceiving the prefect and disturbing public order, what is your punishment?"

Thirteen smiled faintly: "I wonder what crime I have committed? This woman attacked my wife and me in the street, and my wife was almost pushed into the lake by her. Just now, I fought with her and was even rescued by her accomplices. Isn't such a person a rebel?"

"And what about his accomplices?" The prefect, seeing how logically he spoke, immediately dropped his nonchalant attitude and demanded loudly.

Thirteen smiled helplessly: "She escaped. My skills are too rudimentary to fight against the thief. Fortunately, the officials arrived in time to capture her."

These words softened the prefect's expression slightly, and he looked smug. He then glanced at Pinggu, stroked his beard, and muttered, "What kind of thief is this? She's clearly just a weak woman!" He pointed at the two soldiers holding Pinggu and said, "Why are you being so rude? What can a woman do? Huh?"

The two men looked at each other, but did not release her as instructed. One of them mustered his courage and reported, "Sir, this woman's skills are truly formidable. We barely managed to capture her, and we are afraid that she might hurt you."

The prefect was taken aback by these words. He immediately moved three steps away from Pinggu, forcing himself to remain calm. He pointed at Pinggu and said arrogantly, "Then you all keep a close eye on her and don't let her have a chance to escape! I still need to continue interrogating the whereabouts of the other thieves."

She couldn't help but mutter, "I never imagined women these days could be so terrifying. How are men supposed to live?"

He Yue covered her mouth, almost bursting out laughing. This prefect was quite the character.

"Take the thieves and all those involved away from me!" the prefect shouted.

Thirteen immediately stepped forward and reported: "Your Excellency, my wife is pregnant and has been frightened. I hope Your Excellency will allow her to go back and rest. I will accompany you officials."

The prefect glanced at Heyue's five-month pregnant belly, frowned, and waved his hand: "Alright, alright, you will come with me!"

Thirteen breathed a sigh of relief and turned back to comfort Heyue: "You go back first, I'll be right back."

"Will it work?" He Yue frowned, unable to contain her nervousness.

She wasn't worried about Thirteen; with his abilities, he could easily escape. However, this prefect seemed unreliable. Could he catch the rest of the people?

What if they fail to arrest her and Pinggu gets rescued instead? These people are not simple.

He and Thirteen had risked their lives, and they didn't want them to escape like this.

Thirteen knew what she was thinking, and whispered in her ear, "Don't worry, I'm confident. Even if I can't catch the others, I won't give them a chance to escape. I won't let anyone who hurts you and the child get away with it."

Hearing his last harsh words and seeing his confident expression, He Yue's heart was instantly soothed.

Although she didn't know where his confidence came from, Heyue inexplicably trusted him and nodded with a smile.

It feels good to trust your husband completely.

Heyue took Hailan back to the manor. Two guards appeared to protect Heyue as she returned, and there were others in the shadows as well.

No more thieves appeared along the way.

Back home, Lady Irgen Gioro hurried out to greet her, her face filled with anxiety. She had clearly learned what had happened outside. She held Heyue's hand tightly and asked repeatedly, "Are you hurt? Is the child alright?"

Heyue held her mother's hand, shook her head, and comforted her, "Mother, I'm fine."

Seeing that she looked well and showed no signs of discomfort, Irgen Gioro was relieved and took her hand back to her room.

Marhan was also there and hurriedly came forward. Seeing that Heyue was alright, he breathed a sigh of relief.

Knowing that her father and mother were worried, Heyue felt guilty. As soon as she sat down, she told them what had happened before they even asked.

Knowing it was Ping Gu and her gang again, Malhan slammed his fist on the table in anger, his face turning ashen: "Truly despicable! How dare they harm my daughter! I'll go to the prefect! I'll have him tear that woman to pieces!"

As he was about to leave, Heyue quickly called out to him, "Father, don't go, there's Thirteen here."

Marhan angrily retorted, "He's just a commoner now, how can he fight against those people?!"

He Yue let out a soft "uh" and chuckled awkwardly. Indeed, Thirteen was now a commoner and couldn't interfere. At most, he could only confirm that Ping Gu was a rebel and exonerate Thirteen so that Thirteen could be released. He really couldn't get involved in the subsequent matters.

But did Ama have to be so blunt?

He Yue was glad that Thirteen wasn't there at the moment, otherwise she would definitely be sulking.

Lady Irgen Gioro immediately rebuked her husband: "How dare you speak like that? Even if the Thirteenth Prince is a commoner now, have you forgotten? He's no ordinary commoner; how could he not handle a few rebels?"

Marhan, receiving a signal from his wife, immediately realized what was going on. He sat down again, coughed, stroked his beard, and said confidently, "That's right. My son-in-law is no ordinary man. How could he not handle a few rebels? He'll make sure they regret it!"

As he spoke, he laughed smugly.

Heyue didn't notice their unusual behavior and was speechless after hearing her father's words.

Is this her father? When did he become so arrogant? He's even more arrogant than her.

It wasn't that Heyue lacked confidence in Thirteen, but rather that his status was overwhelming. If it were before, with just a word, the prefect would have been determined to wipe out the rebels.

Now, he and Thirteen are, in the end, a fallen phoenix, worse than a chicken. If the prefect were a coward, why would he risk his life to deal with the rebels?

Anyone with eyes can see that the prefect is barely brave enough to arrest rebels. Humph, give me a break.

He Yue couldn't help but sigh, wondering what Thirteen was planning, and what method he was so confident about.

Now we can only hope that this prefect will recognize the importance of the rebels, be eager to make a name for himself, and take the matter seriously.

Since the last assassination attempt, Heyue and Shisan have been extremely cautious, always having guards protect them secretly wherever they go, all in order to wait for Pinggu to reappear so they can avenge their past grievances.

He Yue said she would not let Ping Gu get away with it and that she would definitely avenge her child and Yu Xiu's child.

But after all this time, the other party has never shown up.

It seems the other party is not an impulsive person. They took advantage of the fact that Heyue was in her late pregnancy and unable to move around easily, and that Thirteen would be focused on Heyue. So they deliberately chose this time to carry out the assassination, with Heyue as their target, determined to kill her completely.
