The wet nurse arrived soon with two girls.
Watching the two small, delicate-looking girls bow to their fourth brother, Heyue stared longingly at the little girl on the left with black hair, big eyes, and a lively gaze.
Needless to say, this is Tongxuan.
That slightly quiet girl who always held another little hand wherever she went was Tonghui.
Although he's grown up, you can still recognize his features from when he was a child.
I never imagined my child would grow up so big and become even more beautiful.
Heyue looked at her with obvious affection and wanted to hug her, but was afraid of scaring her, so she leaned down slightly, reached out and held Tongxuan's little hand, and smiled as gently as possible: "Xuanxuan, do you still remember your mother?"
Tongxuan blinked her clear, black pearl-like eyes, staring blankly at Heyue without saying a word.
He Yue's heart sank, but she quickly comforted herself, saying that it was normal for her daughter to not remember when she was so young.
Despite offering this comfort, I still felt a pang of sadness. I touched Tongxuan's soft little face and looked at her expectantly: "Xuanxuan, it's your mother. Your mother has come back to pick you up."
Remembering something, she took a green-soled tiger-head shoe from Hailan and waved it in front of Tongxuan: "Xuanxuan, do you remember this?"
These are tiger-head shoes that Heyue made for Tongxuan when she first arrived in Yangzhou. She had them sent back to the capital. Heyue kept one of them, and Hongchang, Tongxuan, and Tonghui all have their own.
Tongxuan was immediately drawn to the tiny tiger-head shoes, her eyes glued to them.
Thirteen walked over, bent down and stroked Tongxuan's little head, comforting her gently: "Don't worry, the child is still young, it always takes time."
Prince Yong called out to Tongxuan, "Tongxuan, this is your mother. Didn't you want to see your mother? You've seen your mother in the painting before, so why don't you recognize her now?"
Tongxuan glanced at Prince Yong, blinked, then looked at Heyue. Her gaze fell again on the tiger-head shoes in Heyue's hand, and her eyes suddenly welled up with tears. She pouted, looking aggrieved, and asked, "Mother, is that you, Mother?"
Heyue felt a pang of heartache, stroked her head, and softly replied, "It's your mother, your mother has come to take you away. Xuanxuan, don't cry. It's all your mother's fault. I shouldn't have left you."
Seeing that Tong Hui's eyes were filled with tears, yet she stood quietly behind Tong Xuan, He Yue realized that she had neglected Tong Hui. She quickly smiled at her and reached out her hand: "Xiao Hui, come to your mother."
Tonghui immediately ran over happily, hugged Heyue's leg, looked up, and cried out in a choked voice, "Mother, Tonghui and Tongxuan missed you so much. Why haven't you come to see Tonghui and Tongxuan for so long?"
Heyue didn't know how to explain, and it seemed that no matter how she explained, it would be useless. She was the one who was incompetent as a mother, leaving her three young children in the capital just for her own enjoyment.
I owe them.
Thirteen hugged Heyue in her arms, stroked the two children's hair, and comforted them: "Don't cry. Your father and mother missed you too, but they couldn't see you because of other things. But your father and mother are back now and will never leave you again."
Heyue quickly wiped away her tears, turned to look at her fourth brother, put one hand on her waist, and slowly knelt down before him.
Prince Yong's expression changed drastically, and he hurriedly reached out to help her up: "Sister-in-law, what are you doing?"
Heyue shook her head, her voice still a little choked up: "Fourth Brother, thank you, thank you for taking such good care of the three children. I am an unworthy mother. I was not there for them when they needed me most. I owe them all these years, and I can never make up for it in the future. For them, and for myself, thank you, Fourth Brother."
Having arrived here, Heyue had never knelt before anyone except her mother and the emperor. This was the first time she had ever set aside her pride and willingly knelt before someone.
From their first meeting, Fourth Brother showered Heyue with care and affection, like a true elder brother. However, Heyue's heart was never pure; she was always using this care to achieve her own goals.
No matter what unpleasant things may have happened in the past, Heyue will never forget this kindness.
This kneeling was well done; Heyue deserved it, and Fourth Brother was too.
After hearing her words, Prince Yong did not help her up again and accepted it calmly.
Thirteen carefully helped Heyue up, looking at her with concern. Seeing that she looked alright, he was relieved and looked at Fourth Brother: "Fourth Brother, just like Heyue, I will remember everything you have done for me, for Heyue, and for the children over the years."
Prince Yong patted him on the shoulder: "What nonsense are you talking about? All this thanking makes you seem like Fourth Brother is an outsider."
He Yue suddenly asked, "By the way, Fourth Brother, what's the deal with the painting you were talking about earlier?"
It seems that Tongxuan can remember herself thanks to a painting, and it is a painting of herself.
Prince Yong placed his large hand on Hongchang's head and smiled faintly: "It's all because Hongchang keeps thinking about you. Once, he mistook the portrait of Lady Nian that my thirteenth brother sent over for you, so I drew a portrait of you and showed it to the children."
Heyue and Shisan understood; so that's how it is.
In that case, we should thank Fourth Brother, otherwise the child wouldn't even recognize Heyue now.
Thirteen, however, felt a little jealous.
Although it was meant to comfort the child, it was still inappropriate for her own wife's portrait to be in her fourth brother's possession.
Thinking of his fourth brother's character, he knew he would never have any feelings for Heyue, and Thirteen felt a little ashamed.
It's just a painting; I'm really being petty.
With that thought in mind, Thirteen quickly put aside those thoughts.
Thinking of Lady Nian, He Yue couldn't help but tease, "I heard that Fourth Brother has a new concubine, Lady Nian. Are you satisfied?"
Someone as delicate and sweet as Nian Shi would surely be pitied by Fourth Brother, who has a cold and aloof nature, and he wouldn't dislike her.
