On the fourth day at noon, Heyue was writing at her desk out of boredom.
Perhaps fearing that Heyue might be bored, they had prepared quite a few books of various kinds, including storybooks and travelogues, as well as the Four Treasures of the Study.
Besides these things, Heyue had nothing else to do to pass the time each day, so she took advantage of these days to practice her calligraphy.
When she was a child, Heyue practiced the calligraphy of Prince Yong and the calligraphy of the Fourth Prince's wife. After marrying the Thirteenth Prince, Heyue practiced calligraphy less. However, after the Thirteenth Prince saw that Heyue's handwriting was in the style of Prince Yong, he insisted on teaching Heyue calligraphy out of jealousy.
After that, Heyue kept practicing the character "Thirteen".
In Heyue's memory, Prince Yong's calligraphy was the best, and since Thirteen had followed Prince Yong since childhood, his calligraphy was also quite good.
Unfortunately, Heyue was a disappointing student and never performed well in practice.
Thirteen had long given up hope on Heyue's talent in calligraphy. Even if he still wanted to spoil Heyue, he didn't have the patience to continue teaching her calligraphy.
Otherwise, you never know when you might get so angry at Heyue.
Later, Heyue practiced calligraphy sporadically, and Shisan adopted a hands-off approach, not caring whether Heyue practiced well or not.
At the beginning of Shenshi (3-5 PM), Heyue met Guoluoshi again.
Seeing that Heyue showed no sign of worry, Guoluo couldn't help but wonder, "I've always known you're carefree, but I never expected you to be so indifferent to your husband and children. Are you really not worried, or are you just pretending to be calm?"
He Yue smiled faintly: "Why don't you say that I'm so relaxed because I know you won't succeed?"
Guo Luoluo was taken aback for a moment, then chuckled: "You're still the same. No matter what situation you face, you always manage to make the best of it for yourself."
Heyue sat at the table and poured herself a cup of tea. Guoluoshi also sat opposite Heyue.
"Why are you so confident that I can be used by you?" He Yue lowered her eyes, took a sip of tea, and spoke in a calm tone.
"All you've got left is your glib tongue. I know you; even in this predicament, you'd rather not suffer a verbal defeat."
He Yue pouted: "Then you still don't understand me. How could I not be prepared when I can come out to see you so brazenly? After all, I've lived for so many years and been used by you so many times. How could I not have improved at all? You think I'm just showing off my verbal skills? Well, let's wait and see who wins."
The smile on Guo Luoluo's face gradually disappeared. She carefully examined Heyue's expression, trying to discern something, but found nothing.
She shook her head and smiled wryly: "Whatever tricks you have up your sleeve, I'll take them. Let me see what you've learned here. If I lose to you, I'll accept it."
Guo Luoshi didn't leave today; she stayed by Heyue's side the whole time. The two of them didn't talk much and didn't have much to say to each other.
However, He Yue noticed that a maidservant came in several times and whispered something in Guo Luoluo's ear.
Although Guo Luoluo appeared calm, He Yue noticed the worry between her brows and her tightly clenched hands. Her eyes kept looking out the window, and she looked lost.
An answer suddenly popped into He Yue's mind.
Could it be... today?
As Heyue had predicted, around 7 PM that evening, just after Heyue had finished her meal, the maid who had brought the news rushed in and whispered something in Guoluo's ear.
Guo Luoluo's expression changed, then she raised her hand to signal the maid to leave, looked at Heyue, and smiled faintly: "It seems that you have lost after all. He did not come to save you. He chose his good fourth brother. When you heard the news, were you disappointed? Did you regret it? This is the good husband you would give your life for."
He Yue remained calm, as if he had expected it, a stark contrast to Guo Luoluo's anger.
"Wasn't this something you expected?"
Guo Luoluo sneered: "I did think he wouldn't come, but I hoped he would come even more. That way, I could feel at ease. At least he was sincere to you, and everything you did for him was worth it. But what is it now? You gave birth to his son and tied your fate to his for him. In the end, he abandoned you for power. How ridiculous!"
Look at you, you're unmoved even after he treats you like this. You expected this, didn't you? Why aren't you resentful? Why can you accept it so calmly?
Heyue touched the red thread on her palm, remaining silent.
Guo Luoluo didn't expect her to answer. She suppressed all her previous excitement and regained her composure: "Since that's the case, you can't blame me. Blame him for abandoning you."
He then ordered someone to fetch a dagger.
Guo Luoluo held the dagger in her hand, staring blankly at its sharp blade. A look of struggle and pain flashed across her face. She lightly scratched the blade with her index finger, and a bead of blood immediately seeped out. Her brow furrowed slightly.
After a long while, as if she had made up her mind, Guo Luoluo walked up to Heyue and smiled slightly: "Don't worry, it will pass soon."
Grasping Heyue's hand, the dagger paused in Heyue's palm, then made a light cut, and blood immediately seeped out.
He Yue couldn't help but frown and look away.
Guo Luoluo chuckled: "This is nothing. I wonder if the Thirteenth Prince can remain calm after seeing this? Can he still be indifferent to your life or death?"
He Yue burst into laughter, her shoulders shaking with mirth.
Guo Luoshi frowned: "How can you still laugh?"
He Yue covered her lips with her other hand, but tears streamed down her face: "Of course I laughed at your naivety. You think he'll know this way? Don't you know? Even if I'm injured, he won't feel it. It's useless no matter what you do."
It really hurts, but not my hand; it hurts my heart.
The more intensely Heyue cried, the brighter her smile became; she turned her face away, unwilling to reveal her vulnerable side.
"Don't laugh!" Guo Luoluo's expression changed, and she scolded angrily.
He Yue bit her lip, her lips a vibrant cinnabar color, and she continued to smile through her tears.
Guo Luoluo's face turned pale, and she became furious, slashing hard.
Heyue trembled, biting the back of her hand to stop herself from crying out loud.
Crimson blood dripped slowly from his palm onto the ground, turning into specks of red plum blossoms—a shocking sight.
The dagger clattered to the ground, and Guo Luoluo stared blankly at the crimson stain on the ground, her lips turning pale.
Seeing her like this, He Yue laughed even harder: "Even if you bleed a lot, he won't know unless you kill me."
Suddenly, Guo Luoluo grabbed Heyue's shoulder, her eyes bloodshot and her expression fierce: "Tell me, what exactly do you want me to do? Stop going against me, just tell me, okay?"
He Yue shook her head, her heart bleeding with pain, but her words were resolute: "Kill me then, I want to see what you can do, and whether you really will kill me."
"Don't force me! Don't force me!" Guo Luoluo shook her head, her expression pained and almost frantic, tears streaming down her face as she covered her mouth and sobbed.
