Chapter 68 Absent-minded

When did I become a nuisance? Clearly, she is a nuisance to me; I always run into bad luck whenever I encounter her.

But why should I be angry about this trouble? She's away from me, I should be happy, I don't have to worry about being beaten, I don't have to feel uncomfortable because of her harsh words, but I just feel depressed, like a child who can't get candy, unwilling to be ignored.

“In any case, you are a prince of high rank, while we are just ordinary people. If the Thirteenth Prince came because of this matter, then there is really no need for this. My sixth sister and I will not blame the Thirteenth Prince. If there is nothing else, you should go back.” He Yue did not want to waste any more words, so she ignored him and turned to leave.

Thirteenth Prince left Marhan's residence, still feeling resentful, and went straight to Fourth Brother's residence.

The Fourth Prince was handling official business in his study when Liu Fu came in to report, "Your Highness, the Thirteenth Prince has arrived."

"Let the Thirteenth Prince in." The Fourth Prince put down the documents, rubbed his wrists, picked up the teacup beside him, and took a sip of tea.

The Thirteenth Prince entered, called out "Fourth Brother" in a low voice, and then walked dejectedly to the chair and sat down, resting his elbows on the armrests, propping up his chin, and frowning as he pondered something.

The Fourth Prince looked up and saw him so distracted. He raised an eyebrow, put down his teacup, and asked, "What happened?"

The thirteenth prince sighed, his brow furrowing even more, but he didn't utter a single word.

The Fourth Prince found it slightly amusing: "When did you start acting like a sentimental young lady?"

"Fourth Brother, what are you saying?" The Thirteenth Prince snorted unhappily, his face slightly embarrassed.

"Then tell me what happened? Why is it like this?" The Fourth Prince walked around the desk and sat down on another chair next to the Thirteenth Prince, slowly sipping his tea.

After a long silence, the Thirteenth Prince looked somewhat puzzled: "Fourth Brother, if someone really hates you, hates you for no reason, do you know why?"

The Fourth Prince looked up at him in surprise, frowning as he asked, "Who are you talking about?"

The thirteenth prince turned his face away uncomfortably, pursed his lips, and lowered his voice slightly: "Fourth brother, something happened at Prince An's residence last night, and it's related to the two princesses from Marhan's household..."

He recounted what had happened, then slumped down, his face full of distress: "I didn't mean to. I really just helped her up. But Zhaojia and Yue were convinced that I had bullied her sixth sister. Today I went to Malhan's mansion to explain to her, and she knew it was a misunderstanding, but she still said she wanted to keep her distance from me. Why is that? She said I'm troublesome. What's so troublesome about me? Could it be that she, like those other people, thinks I'm not as favored as my fourteenth brother, so she doesn't like to be around me and keeps her distance from me? But how could she be that kind of person? She's clearly different from them."

He said this, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what was different. He just looked puzzled and stubbornly asked the Fourth Prince, and also asked himself.

The Fourth Prince was somewhat surprised, not expecting that his Thirteenth Brother was troubled because of her.

Considering how the thirteenth brother had previously rejected that girl, his current attitude is truly perplexing.

"Don't you dislike her? Why care whether she dislikes you or not?"

Hearing this, the Thirteenth Prince lowered his head in embarrassment and said softly, "Actually, she's not that bad, just a bit fierce, not as gentle and virtuous as other young ladies."

Thinking of that bold and stubborn little girl, the Fourth Prince pondered for a moment: "Children are bound to have wild thoughts, why do you have to overthink it?"

He naturally didn't understand the girl's attitude. From the first meeting, she harbored ill will towards the thirteenth brother, and he still didn't know why. He also had no intention of trying to figure out a child's thoughts.

"Fourth Brother, do you think if I help her find the person she's looking for, she won't hate me anymore?" The Thirteenth Prince's eyes lit up, and he suddenly stood up. The more he thought about it, the better he felt. "Since she's so eager to find someone, it's not easy for a girl like her to go to all that trouble. If I help her find him, she'll definitely be grateful and won't be as rude as before."

The Fourth Prince was taken aback and fell into deep thought.

The Thirteenth Prince grinned, then, remembering something, sat down again and hurriedly asked the Fourth Prince, "Fourth Brother, you have plenty of manpower, could you help me look for them?"

Fourth Prince readily nodded in agreement.

...

Heyue felt that Wanyan Mingshuang would not let the matter rest. Although she was not afraid, she was worried that her sixth sister would be hurt, so she gave Chunrui a few instructions.

Since Chunrui came to her side, she became her second-class maid. Heyue saw that although she was a bit timid and shy, she was clever and diligent, so she would occasionally ask her to do some small things.

Although Chunrui was puzzled, she didn't ask any more questions and just did what Heyue had asked her to do, which made Heyue very satisfied.

With more guidance and training in the future, he should become more composed and more adept at other tasks.

That day, Granny Sun, who served the Fourth Prince's wife, came to invite Heyue again.

Heyue was unwilling to go, so upon receiving the news, she sent someone to tell her mother that she had gone to the Fucha residence. Then she slipped out of the residence through the back door and headed to the Fucha residence.

These days, Heyue's handwriting has improved significantly; at least it's no longer like a dog's scribbles, and you can make out what the characters are.

Yu-hsiu smiled and said that she had made great progress.

He smiled bitterly, feeling neither happy nor distressed.

She was still not entirely satisfied with her handwriting, but at least it was progress, and she shouldn't be too greedy.

She didn't stop sewing, but she often accidentally pricked her fingers. Because she was absent-minded today, she pricked her fingers several times. She didn't know how many times she had pricked her fingers. Blood seeped out, and Heyue frowned and took a breath. Yuxiu took her hand with heartache.

"How can you do this? If you can't embroider it well, then don't bother. You can try again later."

Hearing her complaints, Heyue smiled awkwardly and said, "Alright, I won't embroider anymore."

She was also quite troubled; needlework really wasn't for her, and sometimes she really wanted to give up, but she was unwilling to give up so easily.

"What's wrong with you today? You seem distracted." Yuxiu had already noticed her odd behavior and asked unhappily.

Heyue rested her chin on her hand and thought to herself. She realized that she had been daydreaming too much today. Although she would occasionally prick her finger in the past, it had been especially frequent today.

I haven't been to the Fourth Prince's residence for so long. At first, I thought that even without the Fourth Prince, I could always find another way. But as time went by, my peaceful heart was no longer at peace.

She also realized that there was no other way; this was the only shortcut.

But because of the Fourth Prince's misunderstanding of him, and because he had persisted for so long, he really couldn't bring himself to go again.

More importantly, she realized that her impression of the Fourth Prince was too idealistic. She was captivated by his gentleness but forgot that he was a suspicious person in history. She was still somewhat afraid of the decisive and ruthless Fourth Prince in history. She couldn't help but wonder how she had dared to have a heart-to-heart talk with him back then. She was simply courting death.
