Thirteen was very indifferent to the child, not only refusing to even glance at him, but also never mentioning him once.
It was as if the mother and daughter didn't exist.
Heyue asked him if he didn't want to go see if it was his daughter. If it was, he might even fall in love with her after just one look.
Undeniably, Heyue said that on purpose; she still harbored resentment.
In He Yue's eyes, his behavior didn't seem like indifference, but rather like he was trying to avoid suspicion.
Hmph, what's there to avoid? Am I going to eat him?
Thirteen smiled indifferently: "No matter what, I don't believe that child is mine. He's just a bastard. Why bother to look?" A sinister glint flashed in his eyes as he said this.
Even if you never cared, you still couldn't stand being cheated on.
But was he really that sure? He Yue was skeptical.
Little did she know that in Thirteen’s heart, that woman’s child could only be a bastard, or at least not, otherwise what if his little wife got jealous and ignored him?
Therefore, he could only stop himself from looking at it and pretend that the child did not exist.
Anyway, that child is destined to be an illegitimate child in this life. Who told her to be born into the wrong family?
Fortunately, it was just a daughter; otherwise, it would have been a real problem.
Just as Heyue was about to give birth, news came from the palace that the emperor would be making a southern tour in the first month of the year, and the thirteenth prince would be among those accompanying him.
He Yue couldn't help but curse inwardly, "Is it meaningful for a dignified monarch to run around every year?"
It's fine if it's later!
I had originally promised to let her accompany me on the next southern tour, but now, Heyue is about to give birth and can't go, but the child's father is leaving.
The thought of having to endure the pain of childbirth alone made her extremely depressed, so Heyue ignored Thirteen for several days.
Thirteen looked distressed. She had tried to coax Heyue for several days without success, and she was so anxious that she scratched her head in frustration.
Heyue pinched Thirteen's hand angrily: "Couldn't you just tell the Emperor you're not going? The child is about to be born, the Emperor should at least be understanding!"
Thirteen said with a bitter face, "The imperial decree has been issued, how can I disobey it? At worst, I will stay with you and the child every day after I come back, and I will definitely ask Father Emperor to take you with me on the next southern tour."
"Who knows what will happen then? What if the Emperor doesn't take you next time? What would I do there?" Heyue yelled at him impatiently.
Thirteen was embarrassed and fell silent.
In a fit of anger, He Yue went directly to the Yongjun Prince's Mansion the following afternoon.
With such a large belly, the Fourth Prince's wife turned pale with fright: "What are you doing? What if something happens?"
They quickly had someone help her sit on the daybed in the side room and cover her with a quilt from the stomach down.
With the child's father about to leave, Heyue didn't care about anything else and said angrily, "I came to see Fourth Brother. I have something to ask of you."
In a fit of anger, I did feel a bit unwell in my stomach, and I spoke weakly with a pale face.
Seeing her like this, the Fourth Prince's wife quickly ordered someone to prepare medicine to prevent miscarriage.
I felt better after drinking Heyue.
"What could possibly warrant such a trip? You're a mother now, yet you still act like a child," the Fourth Prince's wife complained, frowning.
He Yue squinted, her eyes welling up with tears, and remained silent.
Fourth Princess Consort shook her head helplessly: "I really can't do anything with you. You should rest well. I'll have someone invite the master over when he returns."
Heyue nodded, and because she was bored and tired while waiting, she fell asleep soon after.
When Heyue woke up in pain from a kick from the baby in her belly, she opened her eyes and immediately saw someone sitting next to her.
Upon recognizing Prince Yong, Heyue's eyes immediately welled up with tears, and she called out in a pitiful voice, "Fourth Brother!"
"What wronged you? Why did you rush over to see me?" Prince Yong looked at her red nose and red eyes with amusement, making her look even more like a rabbit.
Heyue disregarded the difference between men and women and grabbed his large hand: "Fourth Brother, why don't you go and beg Father Emperor to stop the Thirteenth Prince from going on the southern tour? Look, I'm about to give birth, what's the point if the father of the child isn't here?"
She rarely showed such a vulnerable side; this time, she was clearly in a great hurry.
"Just for this?" Prince Yong asked in astonishment.
He Yue nodded, looking aggrieved.
Prince Yong's face immediately darkened: "Nonsense! How can an imperial edict be changed so easily? If Father Emperor finds out, how will he view the Thirteenth Brother?"
Seeing her pitiful appearance with tears welling up in her eyes, he finally softened and couldn't bear to scold her anymore: "Thirteenth Brother is a prince, how can he be held back by a woman? How can he save face in front of his other brothers? You are his wife, you should think of him even more."
What the hell is face? She doesn't care.
Is saving face more important than having a child?
Isn't it all to make a good impression on the emperor?
"What if he's not here, and I'm born alone and something happens?" Heyue grumbled unhappily.
Prince Yong gently patted her head: "Nonsense! How could anything happen? There are imperial physicians and midwives here. I'll have your fourth sister-in-law accompany you. Everything will be fine."
"What if he comes back and the child doesn't recognize him?" Heyue couldn't think of a reason, so she started to argue unreasonably.
Prince Yong laughed in exasperation: "What are you saying?!" He then gently advised her: "Be good, listen to your fourth brother, stop making a fuss."
Heyue lowered her head, twisting her fingers, looking sullen.
"Alright, your belly is already so big, and you're still not settling down. Thirteenth Brother will start to worry again."
Seeing that there was no hope of finding him, Heyue was completely dejected, clutching her stomach, thinking to herself, "My child, you are really unfortunate. You finally came into this world, why are you so unhappy?"
Just then, Thirteen came to pick her up.
"Alright, go back with your thirteenth brother." Prince Yong chuckled, his eyes filled with mockery.
Heyue didn't even bother to look at Thirteen, and slowly walked away, supporting her maid's arm.
Thirteen smiled wryly at Prince Yong: "Fourth Brother, I'm sorry to have troubled you."
"Don't talk about trouble or not, just comfort her and don't let her worry." Prince Yong patted his shoulder.
Thirteen nodded and hurried off.
Once inside the carriage, seeing He Yue turning her gaze away from him, Thirteen carefully sat down next to her and embraced her: "What brings you here to see Fourth Brother? Are you trying to scare me?"
He Yue remained unresponsive.
Thirteen sighed helplessly, turned her face around, kissed her lips, and after a long while, smiled bitterly: "Fine, I promise you. Don't scare me anymore."
"Where did I scare you?" Heyue glared at him.
"Alright, alright, you didn't scare me. I scared myself. When I found out you came to Fourth Brother's residence, I was so scared that I almost lost my soul. I was afraid you would have a miscarriage." Thirteen quickly went along with her.
He Yue's anger subsided a bit, and he came to a realization. If Thirteen didn't go, it would be a small matter if he angered the emperor; at worst, it would just be a momentary outburst. But what if he was punished?
Furthermore, since Kangxi had finally stopped interfering in the affairs of the Thirteenth Princess's household because of her pregnancy, what if she caused trouble again because of this?
"You should still go," He Yue finally said, but her voice was muffled.
Thirteen asked in surprise, "You're not angry anymore?"
He Yue snorted: "So what if I'm angry? It would be troublesome if I displeased the Emperor again."
Thirteen breathed a sigh of relief and hugged her tightly: "I'm sorry, Heyue, I will make it up to you and the child."
