Chapter 35 I assure you.
Sheng Yi patted her hand, "I'll just take a look from inside." Then she asked, "Are you really not going back tonight?"
This was the first time Xiao You had ever run away from home in her life. She hugged Sheng Yi, looking aggrieved, and said, "Yi Yi, please have pity on me."
The banging on the door grew louder and louder. Xiao You snuggled into her arms, blinking her eyes and acting coquettishly.
"Should I go and get rid of him?"
Xiaoyou shook her head and said no, "Don't worry about him."
As soon as she finished speaking, her phone started ringing again.
Hang up, then call again.
Sheng Yi watched them argue for a long time, and finally Xiao Youxian gave in, angrily opening the door, "Can you please stop disturbing the neighbors?"
Thankfully, no one lives across the street or downstairs, otherwise they really couldn't withstand this kind of disturbance.
After that sentence, there was silence again outside. Sheng Yi felt strange and went over. He saw Xiao You, who had just been sulking, with her head down, calling out in a muffled voice, "Brother Shi Li."
The hallway light flickered on for a while, then automatically went out. Only the light leaking from inside the house faintly illuminated the area around the door.
Through the gap, Sheng Yi saw that there was another person standing behind Lin Hao. He was very tall, and standing in the dimly lit stairwell, the already small space seemed even more cramped. He was wearing a hat, which covered most of his face. Sheng Yi unconsciously glanced at him a few more times, and saw him raise his eyes, seemingly glancing in her direction, before quickly looking away.
What's this talk about being friends? He doesn't seem to care about being friends at all. Sheng Yi pretended not to see it and just said to Xiao You, "Why don't you invite President Lin in for a seat?"
Before Xiaoyou could speak, Lin Hao grabbed her hand and said, "No need, I'll take her back."
"Who wants to go with you? Don't even think about selling me off so easily!"
What do you mean by "selling"? In an instant, Sheng Yi recalled many gossip stories she had heard before. Looking at Lin Hao again, his face was also gloomy, no longer the playboy he used to be.
She was startled and stepped forward. "Mr. Lin, let's talk this over. Xiao You is still young, please don't frighten her."
Lin Hao finally spared a glance for her. He had seen Sheng Yi's information, and if it wasn't fabricated, she was actually younger than Xiao You.
His face darkened. "Do you know who I am?"
Sheng Yi smiled and said, "Mr. Lin is too modest. Who doesn't know you?"
"So I'm taking her home today, are you going to object?"
With that look on his face, who would dare to hand the person over? Sheng Yi led Xiao You behind him and said to Lin Hao, "Let her stay here for the night. Calm down, and I'll definitely help you return her tomorrow."
Lin Hao looked around. Given her circumstances, how could he believe she could "take good care" of someone? He chuckled and was about to speak when he heard someone behind him say, "Don't make a scene at someone's door."
His clear, melodious voice carried an air of unquestionable authority.
Xiao You bit her lip, looked at Wen Shili, then at Sheng Yi, and said, "Yi Yi, I'm sorry to bother you today. I'll come to visit you another day."
Sheng Yi squeezed her hand. "It's okay, you can stay here with me tonight."
She said she wanted to take Xiaoyou inside, but when she pulled, she couldn't budge her. Sheng Yi turned around, puzzled, and was gently hugged by Xiaoyou. "Don't worry, he won't do anything to me."
Her expression didn't seem feigned, and Sheng Yi wasn't sure whether to believe her, but looking at Lin Hao, he still seemed unyielding. She frowned slightly, still wanting to try and persuade him further.
Wen Shili's voice suddenly broke in, "He won't hurt her."
Sheng Yi looked suspicious, unsure how credible his words were.
Wen Shili paused for a moment, then said, "I assure you."
The two looked at each other for a moment, then Sheng Yi looked away and left the decision to Xiao You.
"Huh?" Xiao You was caught off guard by the sudden mention of her again. She looked between Wen Shili and Sheng Yi. Lin Hao was annoyed by her dazed look and couldn't stand it for another second. "Let's go."
"Oh." Xiaoyou finally realized what was happening, turned around and waved to Shengyi, "Bye-bye, Yiyi, I'll come find you to play again next time."
Sheng Yi followed her downstairs and said, "Yes, you're welcome anytime. Be careful on your way."
After seeing them off, Sheng Yi returned home and, after some thought, sent Xiao You a WeChat message.
Xiao You didn't have time to look at her phone right now. Normally, the best way for her and Lin Hao to get along was to ignore each other, but as the car passed through the city center and saw Sheng Yi's advertising screen, this guy must have been provoked by something again, saying sarcastically, "She certainly knows how to win people over."
Talking about her is fine, but talking about her friends, especially to her face, is definitely not an option. Xiao You didn't care that Wen Shili was in the car, and the two of them started arguing again, one sentence after another.
"My friends are my friends, I can do whatever I want with them, do I need to report to you? When have I ever said anything about your little stars and models?"
"Who gave you the right to speak? You're getting cocky now. Do you still want your living expenses?"
Xiao You was annoyed by his behavior the most. She twisted her neck and said, "No wonder Sister Chenchen is too lazy to talk to you."
"What did you say? Say it again." Lin Hao's forehead veins throbbed like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
Xiao You was also furious and not afraid of him at all. "What, you're allowed to do it but I'm not allowed to say it? Do you think everyone is like you?" After saying this, she seemed to still be unsatisfied. Looking at Lin Hao's distorted face, she smiled and delivered a vicious blow.
"It's okay to fool others, but never fool yourself."
A casual remark struck the ears of several people, producing a resounding echo.
In the latter half of the journey, when all was quiet, she took out her phone and replied to Sheng Yi's message, "Don't worry, I'm fine."
Sheng Yi received her reply and felt relieved. She packed her clothes and went into the bathroom. After washing up, she saw that Wen Shili had also left her a message. She picked an emoji and replied with a thank you.
Sheng Yi knew that after several interviews, she was always told to wait for news, and that they wouldn't bother to contact her individually if she was rejected. She thought both production teams had given up on her, but unexpectedly, on her way home the next day after work, someone contacted her to say that she had passed the audition for "Fireworks in the Human World".
It's that web series. A lighthearted show, but with such a pretentious title. The other party said the crew was holding a launch ceremony the day after tomorrow, and asked if there was anything inconvenient for her. Sheng Yi said "Ah," hung up the phone, hurriedly checked train tickets, and then contacted Sister Hong to find someone to cover for her.
Although she was only the fourth female lead, it was already a very good start for her.
Two days after joining the team, Sheng Yi realized that some things might be different from what she had imagined.
At the first dinner gathering of the crew, the director cheerfully said that most of the crew members were newcomers, so everyone should have a good time making friends and were welcome to bring their friends over often.
The director was kind, which everyone wanted, but Sheng Yi shook his head and smiled along with everyone else, probably thinking he was being too sensitive.
Unexpectedly, after filming wrapped up the next day, the director kept her behind and immediately praised her, "Xiao Sheng, you've really impressed me."
After playing a background role for two days, she still didn't know where the director got the idea that she was exceptionally talented. The director then steered the conversation elsewhere, subtly and overtly inquiring about Wen Shili's availability.
“Our project has a limited budget, so we can only cast newcomers. But for the theme song, we want to find someone who can command respect and also help with online promotion and dissemination. Could you help me ask around?”
So, it's a buy-one-get-one-free deal, exchanging the resources of a fourth female lead for Wen Shili's singing performance? Does the director not know how much his appearance fee is?
It turns out that the so-called open interviews were nothing more than a test of connections. Even after finally getting a role, it turned out to be thanks to Wen Shili.
Sheng Yi wanted to storm off, but she knew that acting impulsively wouldn't solve anything. That's the unspoken rule of society; the director's circle is interconnected with many networks of connections. She couldn't afford to offend anyone.
It was impossible for Sheng Yi to agree, but after thinking for a moment, she agreed first, "I'll ask around for you."
She searched online and found that he also had work these past few days, so she thought she would postpone it for a few days. But the director came running over to her the next day, all smiles, asking if she had a reply.
Sheng Yi didn't even blink. "He's been very busy lately and doesn't have the time."
The director wouldn't give up, saying the crew could wait and were always welcome. It seemed he wouldn't give up until things got better.
A few days later, Sheng Yi saw Cao Jun's post on WeChat Moments and quickly sent Wen Shili a WeChat message. After showering him with compliments, she quietly added, "I wanted to ask if you have any plans to do theme songs for TV dramas or movies? If so, my director said he'd like to get to know you."
Wen Shili replied to her in the early hours of the morning, "No plans at the moment."
"Okay, I'll tell him." Sheng Yi woke up, saw the message, and happily took a screenshot. Just as she was about to send it to the director, he added, "A friend of mine said we could give it a try and see if the director needs it."
Warmest regards: ...
There was no need to ask the director; Sheng Yi knew he would definitely agree. Wen Shili's friend was probably no ordinary person, and this would allow them to climb the social ladder through Wen Shili, saving them a fortune in publicity costs later. For now, they'd take advantage of any opportunity they could.
Sure enough, the director immediately arranged a meeting date with the other party and even invited Sheng Yi to go along.
She's clearly here to film a movie, so why is she being treated like some kind of middleman? The thing is, she doesn't even know his friend, so what's the point of bringing her along?
When Wen Shili introduced her, he just casually handed her a business card and told her to handle the rest herself. Sheng Yi was too lazy to ask any more questions and simply passed the card to the director.
So it wasn't until the day they met that she realized the wild man-like profile picture on WeChat actually belonged to the music chart icon she used to frequent when she was a child.
"Hello, I'm Sheng Yi, it's a pleasure to meet you."
Wei Zhuang looked at the girl opposite him; the surprise and gratitude in her eyes were completely genuine.
He nodded. "It's nice to meet you."
Unexpectedly, he was so polite. She smiled warmly, sat down next to the director, and then focused on playing the role of the assistant. Sometimes the director would bring up a topic, and she would just grunt and say something before tossing it away again, as if it wasn't her idea to bring it up.
Wei Zhuang couldn't help but find it amusing, and at the same time, he felt a little itchy to do something.
"I'll be staying here for a few days, would you like to meet up?"
After the dinner party ended and everyone went home, that guy finally replied, "No."
If you don't want it, then don't. Who cares about you?
After the celebration banquet ended, Wen Shili slept until the afternoon. Cao Jun brought dinner to his door and couldn't help but chuckle when he saw Wen Shili's spiky hair.
"When is the next event?" Wen Shili asked as soon as I finished setting out my lunchbox.
He gave him a strange look. "The night after tomorrow."
Didn't I just ask that this morning?
