Chapter 38: Past Events.
She spoke one sentence at a time, and finally pointed directly at him.
Feng Shu's face turned ashen. "Watch your mouth!"
Knowing she had been in a bad mood lately, he didn't want to argue with her, but Huang Bei wouldn't let it go, "Is this the first day you've met me? When you two were having your love affair behind my back, did you even think of me for a second?"
She acted as if she were going crazy. Feng Shu stared at her for a long time, and considering that Sheng Yi was a public figure, he finally explained, "She's my classmate." After saying that, he took his phone and left.
Huang Bei stepped forward, blocking the doorway, unconsciously repeating, "Classmate." As she spoke, she laughed, "Let's not treat each other like fools."
"You still have that love letter in your drawer, right? Do you want me to tell you what it said?"
"Besides, what ordinary classmate would hide someone else's photo and only be able to secretly look at it behind your back? It must be very difficult to endure, right?"
She met his eyes. "Come on, tell me, what else is there that you can't hide?"
Seeing his face darken little by little, Huang Bei really wanted to burst out laughing.
"Did you buy those trending topics?" Feng Shu asked sternly, grabbing her wrist.
Huang Bei winced in pain and struggled twice but couldn't break free. When she looked up, she saw that his eyes seemed to be burning with fire.
She hadn't seen him like this in a long time. He was usually mild-mannered, but when he got really angry, it was quite frightening.
Her wrist throbbed with pain. Feng Shu's face was very close to hers, his fiery eyes seeming to burn a hole through her. She frowned and slapped his hand hard. "And what about you?! At least I didn't really do anything."
"No?" Those smear articles would have driven someone with a weaker mental fortitude to depression long ago.
Whether from pain or grievance, Huang Bei's voice trembled with tears, "It's all because you never see me."
Tears dripped onto her hand, splashing into countless tiny droplets. Feng Shu, as if burned, released her hand. "I'm leaving now."
Huang Bei clutched her wrist and staggered a few steps before regaining her balance. Feng Shu stopped by the door, and before leaving, he turned back to look at her one last time.
He still cared about her after all.
Huang Bei was overjoyed and rushed over to hug his waist, then heard him speak calmly, "When did you find out?"
"I knew it from the start, you fool." Huang Bei wanted to laugh, but before the smile could bloom, tears fell first.
She forced a smile, still hoping for one more answer, "Let's get married. I'll retire from the entertainment industry after we get married, okay?"
She stared intently at him, watching his slightly changed expression and his panicked lowering of his head.
Are you willing to do that?
Are you willing to give it up? Huang Bei was stunned for a moment.
She didn't speak, and Feng Shu didn't necessarily need her answer. She just watched him turn around, open the door, and walk out of her sight.
The door closed, leaving her alone in the large room. It was a question, yet the answer was already predetermined—how ridiculous!
The anticipation and hesitation of the past few days seem so superfluous and obstructive, like a single ink dot on a blank sheet of paper.
She actually laughed out loud.

As filming was about to wrap up, Sheng Yi became a minor internet sensation again.
It was a cameo role she played at the beginning of the year, portraying the male lead's first love, appearing only in flashbacks. Her total screen time was no more than ten minutes, and Sheng Yi remembers filming only took a little over a day. Unexpectedly, during the promotional period, the director immediately brought her out to lead the cast.
When Sheng Yi saw the trending topic, she was terrified, but she still had no choice but to bite the bullet and repost the promotional video.
This was her first filmed role after her minor rise to stardom, and she even bought her way onto the trending topics list in such a high-profile manner. After hearing about it, netizens couldn't wait to check it out. And then, they were proven wrong.
"Didn't they say her acting was bad? You guys aren't kidding me, are you?"
"Sheng Yi is completely playing herself; it doesn't feel out of place at all."
"It's probably due to her character design and appearance. Just look at her in 'The Overbearing King's Nightly Pampering,' it's really an eyesore."
"I heard that the director chose her based on her face, but she couldn't capture the feeling he wanted in her performance. The script had to be changed at the last minute before filming could continue."
"I have to say, this role suits her very well."
"Wen Shili is really enjoying his meal; he's managed to snag all the girls of this caliber."
...
Sheng Yi rolled her eyes. She and Wen Shili hadn't been in contact for days.
Under the promotional Weibo post, fans were also providing real-time feedback in the comments section. Sheng Yi, who doesn't usually like watching unfinished dramas, watched a few episodes after work after seeing their enthusiastic discussion.
This show already had a short number of episodes, and I don't know if it was just a gimmick or what, but scenes that should have appeared later were moved forward quite a bit. Thanks to the director's skillful editing, she actually looks pretty convincing.
After filming wrapped, she discovered that various videos of "white moonlight" had already spread online and even appeared on her homepage.
Thanks to the filter of her role, her number of fans has increased slightly.
Sheng Yi returned to S City, and the next day the director dragged her to join an offline promotional event.
The host kept throwing questions at her, and she looked at the female lead who had been pushed to the side, feeling rather embarrassed.
The female lead, however, was quite poised and generous, saying, "It's alright, we're all doing this for the good of the show. It's better to have viewers than to be completely destroyed by both praise and criticism."
That makes sense, but after returning home, aside from sharing it online, I politely declined all subsequent promotional offers.
Wu Simin said, "Now they want to ride your coattails, so why are you hiding? It's a chance to get on camera, it's mutually beneficial."
It's not fair to say who's piggybacking on whom; it was all for the sake of the drama. Sheng Yi didn't really care that the production team used her as a promotional tool. However, since the drama's title had already been released, it would be excessive for her to get involved further.
Old Qian only discovered that Sheng Yi had participated in the event after watching the program.
Zhao Lan brought over the bowl and saw him standing blankly at the table. "Why are you looking at your phone while eating? Do you want me to serve you?"
Old Qian was still stunned. "Wife, I told you I had a good eye." He never expected that the bet he made on casually would one day be swept away from the dust and become even more dazzling.
But after she became famous, she simply didn't have as much time to joke around with him anymore. Come to think of it, the last time they contacted each other was before she joined the film crew. After that, she was either filming or busy, and simply didn't have time to exchange a few words.
Zhao Lan glanced at his screen and said, "That girl is self-reliant; what future can she have with you?"
"Yes, yes, it's my fault, please sit down, wife." Old Qian was in a good mood and didn't argue with her. He took the bowl from Zhao Lan's hand and pressed her down to sit at the table. "Wife, you've worked hard."
It takes a hundred days to recover from a broken bone, and the recovery of an elderly person is much slower than that of a young adult. Auntie came for a follow-up check-up, but Old Qian happened to be out on business. Zhao Lan was still angry.
At the dinner table, Lao Qian carefully coaxed Zhao Lan, and the two then exchanged a few words about the results of the third aunt's follow-up investigation.
During the show, there was also an off-site video call segment. Zhao Lan listened to the audio playing out and suddenly remembered, "Yi Yi asked about your nephew before. I forgot to tell you, have you two talked about it since then?"
"Where did I get a nephew from?" Old Qian chuckled. "What nonsense is this girl talking about?"
Zhao Lan was also puzzled. The next second, she saw Lao Qian suddenly grab her hand. "My nephew?! When did she tell you?"
“The last time she called, you were taking a shower, and she asked about my third aunt’s situation, but didn’t say anything else.”
Old Qian slapped his forehead and said he had forgotten something.
So that's where they were waiting.
Judging from his expression, Zhao Lan knew there was probably something fishy going on.
Old Qian is a man who always talks a big game, and he never hesitates to tell a lie to outsiders. But when it comes to Sheng Yi, they've always treated her like a little sister. Sheng Yi has a good temper, and she's a fair-skinned girl who's very likable.
"Maybe they're busy. Try calling again later."
Listening to the dial tone on the phone, Old Qian thought, "This young lady really has a temper."
The phone screen lights up, turns off, and lights up again.
Sheng Yi seemed oblivious, listening with great interest as Wang Ying complained about her boyfriend beside her.
When the phone screen lit up for the third time, Wang Ying raised her chin, indicating to her: "They must need to talk to you. Aren't you going to answer it?"
Sheng Yi casually flipped her phone over and placed it face down on the table. "Harassing calls."
Wang Ying understood.
The two had been friends for many years, so they had that much in common. Although one of them worked in their hometown and the other was working far away after graduation, they still managed to get together whenever they had the chance.
This was also the first time Sheng Yi had met Wang Ying's boyfriend. He wasn't very talkative, but he could answer any questions you asked. He was poised and confident, and didn't seem awkward at all because of her gossip. Sheng Yi even suspected that, aside from being Wang Ying's friend, he didn't even know her.
After introducing the two to each other, Wang Ying rested her chin on her hand and looked towards the door, asking, "How much longer will Feng Shu take?"
Sheng Yi picked up her phone, about to ask a question, when she heard a male voice behind her, "Sorry to keep you waiting."
"Feng Shu!" The person who had been lazily standing there suddenly stood up. "It really is you! You look exactly the same. Do you remember me?"
Feng Shu nodded: "Of course."
Wang Ying never expected that after so many years, he would still remember her. She introduced him to her boyfriend with a smile, "Feng Shu, the most handsome boy in our class. Back then, so many girls liked him."
Sheng Yi glanced at her with a smile, but Wang Ying pretended not to notice. Feng Shu, on the other hand, looked a little embarrassed and said, "No, no, you flatter me too much."
Wang Ying didn't like hearing that. "You have to believe in your own charm, okay? I even wrote you love letters back then."
Feng Shu probably didn't expect Wang Ying to be able to talk about her embarrassing past so calmly, especially in front of her boyfriend. He was completely embarrassed.
Sheng Yi was powerless to help, but fortunately Wang Ying's boyfriend remained calm, clearly used to her behavior.
Just then, the waiter came over to serve the food, and the conversation ended there.
Compared to her student days, Wang Ying's personality hasn't changed much; in fact, she's become even more outgoing.
According to her own explanation, "I can't control the situation otherwise."
Throughout the meal, Wang Ying did most of the talking, with Sheng Yi and Feng Shu occasionally chiming in.
Sheng Yi watched her beaming face and couldn't help but recall how clenched her fists were when she learned that Feng Shu had transferred schools back in high school. She never imagined that years later, they would reunite in S City, and that the story of their youth had already had its ending written many years ago.
After dinner, Feng Shu and Wang Ying's boyfriend went to pick up their car. Wang Ying told Sheng Yi that she might get married this year.
Sheng Yi was stunned by the news of her marriage, and then startled by her next question: "What do you think of Feng Shu?"
Sheng Yi tentatively asked, "You wouldn't happen to be...?"
Wang Ying quickly spat a few times, "What are you thinking?"
Not the best.
Sheng Yi had just breathed a sigh of relief when Wang Ying added, "I think he's a pretty good person. He hasn't gotten out of shape or gained weight over the years. Why don't you consider him?"
Now it was Sheng Yi's turn to be embarrassed.
Feng Shu has a girlfriend, such a big thing, and she actually forgot to tell Wang Ying.
Wang Ying thought about it more and more and felt that it was quite feasible. "Didn't you say that those online messages are all fake news? Let's talk about it and give it a try?"
Not to mention that Feng Shu has a girlfriend, the two of them weren't even that close. If Wang Ying hadn't known that he was in S City and insisted on having a get-together with his classmates, she would have made an excuse to decline the dinner invitation.
Wang Ying had no idea of the complicated thoughts swirling in her mind. She wanted to say a few more words of advice, but when she looked up, she met the gaze of a man not far away.
He was wearing a hat and a mask, and it seemed like he was just glancing at her casually, but she had the illusion that she had done something wrong.
Wang Ying, who considered herself to have met many people of all ranks, still felt an intense sense of oppression at this moment.
The person who had been chattering away suddenly became like a saw-off gourd, full of suspicion, and turned around.
A few steps away, two men were walking side by side toward them.
