Chapter 46: Unreasonable Thoughts.
Before she could react, Sheng Yi had already recognized the person who had come.
"Xiao You?"
Xiao You, full of resentment, saw that Sheng Yi had almost calmed down as well, rushed forward and hugged her tightly, "Yi Yi, did you miss me?"
Xiaoyou went abroad to attend Fashion Week last month and hasn't returned to China since. Occasionally, when I see her WeChat Moments, it's full of pictures of her having fun all over the world with her friends.
When we contacted each other a few days ago, Sheng Yi told me that her travel plans were already booked until after January, and she even considered whether she could switch to another class.
Xiao You nestled against her chest and rubbed against her before finally getting up, taking her arm, and said, "I brought you a gift."
Before the words were finished, the bamboo wind chimes at the door were swayed by the wind, playing a clear and cheerful tune.
Sheng Yi looked up, saw the person at the door, and was slightly taken aback.
Wen Shili appeared at the door in casual attire, followed closely by Cao Jun carrying large and small bags. At first glance, it looked as if the moving gift boxes had grown legs and were being manipulated.
The space, which was originally somewhat empty, felt strangely cramped because of their arrival.
Sheng Yi tilted her head. "Did you come together?"
Wen Shili gave a faint "hmm," and said, "It's on my way anyway."
Xiao You stuck out her tongue, took the various trinkets from Cao Jun's hand, and stuffed them all into Sheng Yi's arms. "I just picked a few things randomly. I'll send the rest to your house. Keep them if you like them, and throw them away if you don't."
When a group of people suddenly appeared, Zeng Shaoguang reacted calmly, and Sheng Yi secretly gave him a praising look.
With such a face, Zeng Shaoguang greeted Wen Shili naturally without needing much introduction.
Wen Shili nodded slightly and sat down next to Zeng Shaoguang.
Sheng Yi pushed the menu in front of him, "Take a look and see what you'd like to drink?" Then she turned to Xiao You and asked, "How long do you plan to stay this time?"
"I..." Xiaoyou started to speak, but was stopped by another male voice, "Sorry, no photos allowed."
Cao Jun parked his car and came in, and saw a girl not far away taking pictures of their table in a way she thought was discreet.
Xiaoyou was holding Shengyi's arm, looking like she had a lot to say. The two people opposite her sat upright, neither of them noticing that they had been included in someone else's shot.
The moment he spoke, Sheng Yi instinctively turned around.
Cao Jun strode over to Jingjing's side and gestured to her. Fortunately, Jingjing reacted quickly. By the time Cao Jun arrived, she was already holding up her phone, letting him look through it carefully.
After a moment of silence, Cao Jun glanced over with a strange expression. Sheng Yi thought he was paying attention to Wen Shili's instructions, but Wen Shili leaned back lazily in his chair and didn't seem to care too much.
Cao Jun's eyes, seemingly full of meaning, were actually directed at her.
"What's wrong? What's it to me?" She looked back innocently.
Cao Jun sighed inwardly, looked back at the girl in front of him who was underdeveloped like a bean sprout, but whose eyes were full of ignorance and fearlessness, and said solemnly, "There's one more."
After he said that, Jingjing became a little uncertain again, so she quickly flipped her phone over to check again.
The only thing left is the latest business photo of Sister and Zeng Shaoguang that I just snapped. We only got one finished product after half a day of work, so how can we just delete it?
She winked at Sheng Yi discreetly, and Sheng Yi understood and stood up.
"I forgot to introduce you all. This is my assistant, Jingjing. It's rare for the young lady to see such a big star as Teacher Wen, so she's a little excited. Please be accommodating, Brother Cao."
As she spoke, she took the phone from Jingjing's hand to confirm, "The rest are indeed my photos."
After saying that, she smiled gently at Wen Shili and asked, "Teacher Wen, do you need me to check again?"
Normally, in situations like this, even big stars wouldn't bother arguing with a small assistant, especially since they're not "friends."
Sheng Yi thought she knew Wen Shili quite well, so how could he possibly notice such trivial matters? Besides, even when this man put on a gentle expression, his indifference and impatience would occasionally peek out from under him.
Just like that night at the charity gala, he remained calm and quelled her anxiety with a single sentence. Now, she was fearless, looking at him with a wide smile.
Cao Jun's feelings were complicated when she called him "Brother Cao," and his face darkened even more upon hearing this.
"This is bad," Cao Jun thought to himself.
Sure enough, the next second, Wen Shili reached out his hand.
Sheng Yi's lips twitched.
He remained nonchalant, taking the phone, glancing at it casually, and then handing it back untouched. It seemed he was merely using his own hands to solidify Jingjing's innocence.
Jingjing stuffed her phone into her bag, head down, looking resigned to her fate. The original plan was destined to fall through, so Shengyi patted her shoulder and whispered, "Why don't you go back first?"
"And what about you?" Jingjing asked, a little worried, her gaze shifting between them.
When she was assigned to Sheng Yi's group, Lao Qian specifically told her to stay away from Wen Shili. Originally, she thought the atmosphere between them was just right and that it didn't matter who she was with, but she didn't expect to be caught red-handed on their first encounter. She hoped that Wen Shili wouldn't drag her down with him.
One spoke softly, coaxing, while the other's gaze was hesitant, yet unabashedly sweeping across the faces of the crowd. Their stubborn expressions seemed to be inherited from each other.
Wen Shili lowered his eyes. "Why don't you come and sit with me?"
What was supposed to be a private discussion inexplicably turned into a large gathering of people, with business regulations and materials all taking a backseat.
Zeng Shaoguang was a restless person. Originally, Wen Shili was not talkative, and he could only occasionally chime in on the topic of girls. With Cao Jun joining, it was like meeting a good friend.
One cold drink was finished, and another was poured.
Zeng Shaoguang glanced at Sheng Yi, who was chatting and laughing with her girlfriends, then turned her eyes and secretly glanced at Wen Shili, who was not making much noise, before continuing her long chatter with Cao Jun.
Jingjing gazed at the sky in silence.
When the waiter came up again to ask if he needed any help, Zeng Shaoguang glanced at his watch and said, "Excuse me, I have to go back first."
"Won't you sit down for a while?" Upon hearing this, Wen Shili stood up to make way, and said the longest sentence he had uttered since their meeting that day, all in a serious tone.
After a night of contemplation, a conclusion was reached: he had been listening.
Zeng Shaoguang's smile remained unchanged. "Wait until next time when there's an opportunity." He then waved his hand in front of Sheng Yi.
Sheng Yi was listening intently to Xiao You's story when she came to her senses. "Are you leaving?" she asked. She stood up and said, "I'll see you out."
"Pfft—I'm sorry." Xiaoyou covered her mouth and held it in.
Jingjing kept her eyes down, focusing on her thoughts, and took two big slurps through the straw. If only she had listened to advice earlier. So all those rumors and talk about friends were just nonsense online; it seems she wasn't even that close to Teacher Zeng.
At the shop entrance, Sheng Yi looked at the person in front of her who was taking a deep breath. "You have something to say to me?" She had seen his subtle hint when she left.
Zeng Shaoguang didn't beat around the bush and went straight to the point, "Are you sure you have no relationship?"
When he wasn't smiling, he appeared much more composed. Sheng Yi reminded him, "I thought we had already reached a consensus."
Zeng Shaoguang nodded. "Otherwise, why do you think I'm sitting here getting glared at?"
Sheng Yi chuckled upon hearing this, "So, you can't hold on any longer?"
Her eyes were clear, and her tone was playful, like a child asking a question in bewilderment, or like some kind of silent encouragement.
Zeng Shaoguang stared at her for a while, then his expression hardened, and he said seriously, "That depends on you."
Sheng Yi shrugged. "As you can see, we're just colleagues."
Colleague. That's how she introduced him when we met earlier. At least we're on the same starting line, right? Zeng Shaoguang smirked. Fine.
Even without hearing their conversation, it was easy to sense the relaxed and harmonious atmosphere. The two smiled at each other, and Jingjing couldn't wait to take out her phone and snap another picture, but Wen Shili's assistant was watching her like a thief.
What a pity.
She was chewing on her straw, pondering how to compose a photo that would go viral next time. But then, a less-than-harmonious figure suddenly appeared in the otherwise harmonious scene.
Jingjing's expression shifted slightly, and she was about to speak up to remind him when Shengyi had already realized who it was.
A crisp tinkling sound followed by a clear, gentle voice, "Excuse me, did I disturb you?"
Sheng Yi turned around and met Wen Shili's smiling eyes.
It's rare to see such emotions in his eyes. Most of the time, his thoughts are well hidden deep inside, protected by a mysterious and hard-to-find shell, which he then reveals to others without any hesitation.
Whether it was her imagination or not, Wen Shili's tone seemed gentler than usual when he asked the question.
Startled, Zeng Shaoguang turned and ran away, saying, "No, no." After running a few steps away, he turned back and waved goodbye to Sheng Yi.
"Is it really necessary? It's not like it's a tiger." Sheng Yi remained silent.
However, since they are not on the same level, it is indeed difficult for them to get along naturally. Even if the male and female leads from the group are brought in to support them, they may not be able to last as long as Zeng Shaoguang.
She suppressed a laugh and turned around. Wen Shili was still standing there. Sheng Yi composed herself and said, "It's nothing, we were just chatting."
It follows from his previous sentence.
Seeing that he remained silent, she carefully added, "Please don't misunderstand."
As soon as he finished speaking, Sheng Yi realized that he had overdone it. Sure enough, he immediately said, "What misunderstanding?"
His tone was soft, as if he were merely responding casually, not caring about her answer. Sheng Yi couldn't decipher his expression, but since she had already spoken...
In any case, all her struggles and scheming were futile self-deception in his presence. He could choose to cooperate when he wanted, and walk away when he didn't. And she, too, had other choices.
There are some things that we haven't had a chance to discuss face-to-face yet.
"You're misunderstanding me, thinking I'm using your name to swindle or something," she said softly, her voice gentle. To emphasize the credibility of her words, she stared intently into his eyes, making sure she wasn't making a single mistake.
Wen Shili lowered his eyes. "For example?"
"For example, you are my boyfriend?" Sheng Yi laughed after saying that.
Despite the widespread rumors circulating online and the fact that she had read many of them, she still found it absurd to say them aloud.
One is infamous, the other is dazzling. Apart from deliberately created gossip headlines, who would believe there wasn't some behind-the-scenes manipulation or exchange of benefits?
She tilted her head back, her gaze clear, as if she had encountered some amusing joke. She looked delicate and frail, as if a gust of wind could topple her, yet her words were direct and bold.
Wen Shili's heart seemed to skip a beat. He looked away, then looked back at her the next second.
Sheng Yi, still smiling, asked him, "It's not funny at all, is it?"
"It's alright," she paused, then her tone lightened as if she had thought of something, "there should be fewer and fewer people spreading rumors after this. Heaven is my witness, I absolutely had no improper thoughts whatsoever."
Unreasonable thoughts...? His boiling heartbeat suddenly froze. He rolled those words in his mouth, the more he thought about it, the more unpleasant it felt.
"And what about him?"
Sheng Yi blinked, realizing who he was talking about. "Of course he's a colleague. You don't know, I work with him in 80% of my scenes, so I have to maintain a good relationship with him."
So, they're all just colleagues.
She even fairly equated them all with the same label.
Wen Shili nodded. He should be happy, but he couldn't find a reason to be.
He knew that she was never short of male suitors, and even a fat, bloated man like Huang Zhicheng was attracted to her beauty, not to mention the friends who could get close to her.
Beneath her lively and vibrant exterior, she lives a diligent and hardworking life, and possesses her own stubbornness and perseverance.
Who wouldn't want to possess someone like that after spending a long time with them?
They were just colleagues, so when I was busy, I could naturally not reply to his messages, and I would gradually give up my position as a friend to him because of other colleagues who were more compatible.
What's next...?
He didn't want to speculate, but she was clearly eager to try.
She knew nothing, and was still secretly observing him with her clear eyes, as if afraid of upsetting him and putting herself in a dangerous vortex of public opinion.
"Have fun," he said, loosening his grip on his hand.
Sheng Yi returned to the store and met Xiao You's hesitant expression. "You have one minute to say what you want to say."
Xiao You was surprised by her directness and smiled, "Can I sleep with you tonight?"
Sheng Yi: "..."
She didn't mind coming clean with her friend, but since Xiaoyou changed the subject, she pretended not to know and held out her hand, "How can you just sleep with someone like that? You have to pay first."
"Brother, tonight..."
Knowing this trip wouldn't be peaceful, Cao Jun was surprised to see a storm brewing right after their first meeting. He glanced at Wen Shili's expression, wondering if they should stay the night.
"Go straight back." Wen Shili leaned back in his chair, his expression revealing his exhaustion.
With such a hectic schedule, plus the various matters related to the new album that need to be arranged in between, even an iron man like me can't keep up.
To squeeze out these few days of free time...
Sigh, why did I have to run into this?
