be safe
The joy of winning had not yet completely dissipated when my life was shrouded in darkness again.
I had just finished a magazine shoot that day and hadn't had time to catch my breath when the doorbell rang urgently.
I thought Zhao Yin had arrived early, so I ran to open the door happily, but I saw the courier standing at the door with a cautious look on his face, holding a simply packaged box in his hand.
"Hello, is this Mr. Wenxi? Here is a package for you." The courier's voice sounded a little strange. I took the box and found that there was no sender information on it, only my name and address. The handwriting was crooked, as if it was deliberately disguised.
My heart skipped a beat and an ominous premonition came over me. I put the box on the shoe cabinet and didn't open it immediately. Instead, I called Zhao Yin first.
The moment the phone was connected and I heard his familiar voice, my panicked heart finally calmed down a little.
"Brother Yin, I received a package with no sender. It feels a bit strange."
I tried to make my voice sound calm.
"Don't open it yet, I'll be there soon." Zhao Yin's tone was very serious. After hanging up the phone, I sat on the sofa, staring at the box. Every second seemed to be extremely long.
About twenty minutes later, Zhao Yin arrived at my house.
After he entered the door, he went straight to the shoe cabinet, put on the gloves he carried with him, and carefully opened the box.
Inside the box was a glass bottle filled with some unknown liquid. A photo of me was soaked in the liquid. A red cross crossed out my face in the photo, and next to it was a note that read, "This is just a warning. Stay away from Zhao Yin, or it won't be so easy next time."
Seeing these things, I just felt nauseous, my stomach churning. Zhao Yin pulled me into his arms, patted my back gently, and comforted me: "Don't be afraid, I'm here. This is obviously someone maliciously threatening you. Let's call the police immediately."
After I called the police, they arrived quickly and took the box away, saying they would test it to see if the liquid inside was dangerous. Zhao Yin stayed with me until the police left. He then let me go, looked me in the eyes, and said, "Xiao Xi, you must be careful during this period. Try not to go out alone. I've already talked to Sister Ling and your agent, and they'll arrange for bodyguards to follow you at all times."
I nodded, still feeling a little scared. I didn't understand what I had done wrong to attract such malice. Zhao Yin seemed to see through my thoughts. He reached out and ruffled my hair, saying, "Don't think too much. It might have been done by an extreme fan. You and I being together is bound to cause some people's dissatisfaction, but don't worry, we will definitely find out who did it and make them receive the punishment they deserve."
However, the matter did not end with calling the police.
In the next few days, my social media accounts were flooded with malicious comments and private messages. Those disgusting words were like sharp blades, piercing my heart.
Some people also made up all kinds of rumors about me online, saying that I got to the top through improper means and that my relationship with Zhao Yin was hype for the purpose of attracting attention.
I know this is all nonsense, but I can't help but read the comments. The more I read, the worse I feel.
After Zhao Yin found out, he confiscated my phone. He held me in his arms and whispered, "Don't read those things. They just want to make you sad. You have to believe that people who truly love you won't be affected by these rumors."
I leaned into his arms, tears streaming down my face. "Brother Yin, I feel so bad... Why do they treat me like this? I just fell in love with you. Is that wrong?"
"You're not wrong. The ones who are wrong are those who don't know how to respect others." Zhao Yin said, gently wiping away the tears on my face. "Let's get through this together. Once the storm is over, everything will be fine."
Just when I thought things were slowly calming down, another terrible thing happened.
I went to the crew to film that day, and during the break, the assistant handed me a bottle of water.
I unscrewed the bottle cap and took a sip when I felt the taste was wrong. Then I felt a sharp pain in my stomach and couldn't help vomiting.
Everyone around me was shocked by my reaction. My assistant quickly supported me and asked anxiously, "Wenxi, what's wrong with you?" I covered my stomach and couldn't speak. I just felt the world in front of me becoming more and more blurred.
When I woke up again, I was already in a hospital bed.
Zhao Yin was guarding my bedside, his eyes bloodshot. When he saw me wake up, he immediately held my hand and said, "Xiao Xi, you're finally awake... The doctor said you had food poisoning. Fortunately, you were brought here in time, otherwise you would be in danger."
When I heard his words, I remembered what happened before.
I looked at him and asked weakly, "Did someone poison my water?" Zhao Yin nodded, his expression very serious. "We've called the police and they're investigating. The crew's surveillance footage shows that a strange woman put the poison in your water while you weren't paying attention. We'll find her and she won't get away with it."
This incident plunged me into deep fear, and I even began to doubt whether I really shouldn't be with Zhao Yin.
If it weren't for me, he wouldn't be in so much trouble. Zhao Yin seemed to sense my thoughts. He held my hand tightly and said, "Xiao Xi, don't let your imagination run wild. We've finally gotten together. We can't give up just because of these difficulties. I will protect you. No matter what happens, I won't let you get hurt."
With Zhao Yin's company and encouragement, my body gradually recovered. After investigation by the police, the woman who poisoned my water was finally found.
She was a fanatical fan of Lin Jinze. She was dissatisfied with me and Zhao Yin being together, and she also held a grudge against me for winning the lawsuit against Lin Jinze for plagiarism, so she did such an extreme thing.
After learning the truth, I felt mixed emotions.
I don't understand why a person's love can turn into such terrible hatred, but fortunately, with the woman being arrested by the police, the malicious attacks and intimidation finally stopped.
Zhao Yin and I also decided to cherish each other more in the future and no longer let these external factors affect our relationship.
On the day I was discharged from the hospital, Zhao Yin came to pick me up. Instead of driving the usual eye-catching nanny car, he drove a low-key black car with the darkest film on the windows.
When he opened the car door for me, I saw an insulated bag on the passenger seat. When I got closer, I found that it was the water chestnut cake I had talked about in the hospital a few days ago. He specially asked his aunt to steam it in the early morning, and it was still hot.
"Fill your stomach first," he handed me the thermal bag, touched my wrist with his fingers, and then immediately took it away. "The doctor said your stomach hasn't fully recovered yet, so you can't eat anything too cold."
I took a bite of the water chestnut cake and looked up, meeting his eyes. He was staring at the corner of my mouth, reaching out to wipe the cake powder off me. "Eat slowly, no one's trying to steal it from you," he said with a hint of a smile. The redness in his eyes hadn't completely faded, but it was much softer than when he was in the hospital.
"Brother Yin," I said, my words a little slurred, holding a water chestnut cake in my mouth. "You haven't slept much these days, have you?"
His hand that was starting the car paused, without turning around, he just whispered, "Asleep."
I know he is lying.
The night before last, I woke up in the middle of the night and saw him sitting on a chair beside the bed, holding a tablet in his hand and watching the surveillance video. It was the clip where the woman in the crew poisoned someone. He kept slowing it down to watch. I didn't dare say anything at the time. I just looked at his profile. My heart was sour and soft. I wanted to hug him, but I was afraid of disturbing him.
"You're lying," I poked his arm, "the bloodshot veins under your eyes are almost forming a web."
He finally turned his head to look at me and reached out to ruffle my hair: "I'll catch up on my sleep after I send you home, but before that, I'll take you somewhere."
I was stunned: "Where to?"
He didn't say it directly, but just curled his lips mysteriously: "You'll know when you get there."
After driving for nearly two hours, we finally stopped at the foot of the Guangzhou Tower. I looked at the towering tower, a little confused: "Why are we here?"
"Let me show you the scenery," he unbuckled my seat belt and handed me a thin coat from the trunk. "It's windy at night, put it on."
I took the coat and put it on. It happened to be the one he usually wore, and it had a bit of his scent, which made me feel at ease.
I followed him into the tower. He had already booked the tickets, so I didn't even have to queue.
As the elevator was rising, I felt a little dizzy and subconsciously grabbed his arm.
He immediately held my hand tightly and whispered, "Don't be afraid, we'll be there soon."
There were not many people on the top-floor observation deck, and the evening breeze came in through the gaps in the glass, carrying with it a moist scent unique to Guangzhou.
I leaned on the railing and looked at the hustle and bustle of traffic below. The neon lights were like stars scattered on the ground, extending all the way to the horizon.
Zhao Yin stood beside me, his shoulder gently leaning against mine, without saying a word, just accompanying me to watch the scenery.
"When I was filming a movie, the crew was nearby," I suddenly said, my voice a little drifting in the wind. "Back then, I could see the Canton Tower light up every day after work. I even told my assistant that I must find someone to watch it with me someday."
He turned to look at me and asked, "Is it what you want now?"
I nodded, but what I didn’t say was that the “person” I was thinking of at that time was him.
At that time, I was just a newcomer, but he was already a top star. I could only watch him on TV or in the corner of the award ceremony. Even talking to him seemed like a luxury.
I never thought that now, I could really stand here side by side with him and see the same scenery.
"Are you cold?" He reached out and touched my ear. Finding it a little chilly, he immediately put my hand in his pocket and said, "I should have brought more clothes."
"It's not cold," I leaned against him, "It's not cold as long as you're here."
He chuckled and put his arm around my waist, pulling me closer to him.
"Were you scared in the elevator just now?" he asked suddenly.
I was a little embarrassed: "Yeah, a little dizzy."
"Then let's not go so high next time," he said. "If you want to see the scenery, let's go to the riverside or the park. Anywhere is fine."
I shook my head: "No, I like it here."
Because here we have him, the evening breeze, and the best scenery in the world.
We stayed on the observation deck for a long time and didn't leave until the tower was about to close.
As we were leaving, he stopped at a souvenir shop, picked out a small model of the Canton Tower, and handed it to me: "Take it, keep it as a souvenir."
(It’s a scam, don’t buy second-hand.)
I took the model and felt very happy.
He is always like this, remembering all my little preferences and turning every memorable moment into a physical object for me to treasure.
As I got in the car, I was playing with the model in my hand when something suddenly occurred to me: "Brother Yin, why did you suddenly want to bring me to the Canton Tower?"
He glanced at me with a smile on his face. "Didn't you say you wanted to go for a walk the other day at the hospital? I looked it up and saw that the Canton Tower has a nice night view, so I wanted to take you to see it."
I leaned over and kissed him on the cheek: "Brother Yin, you are so nice."
His ears turned red instantly, and even though it was dark, I could still see them clearly.
He coughed and pretended to look at the road: "Don't make trouble, I'm driving."
I couldn't help but laugh, leaning back in my chair and looking at his profile. The car was very quiet. After all the malice and hurt I'd experienced before, as long as he was around, I wasn't afraid of anything.
When we got home, he first settled me down and then went to the kitchen to cook porridge for me.
I sat at the dining table, watching his busy back, my heart filled with happiness.
He brought the porridge over and sat across from me, watching me drink it mouthful by mouthful: "Drink slowly, don't burn yourself."
"Brother Yin, you should drink some too," I scooped a spoonful of porridge and passed it to his mouth, "It's delicious."
He opened his mouth and drank the porridge, then nodded: "Well, Auntie's cooking skills are good."
In fact, I know that he cooked the porridge himself.
My aunt went back to her hometown today. She was afraid that I couldn’t get used to eating outside, so she specially learned how to cook porridge.
Although he didn't say it, I could taste that the porridge contained my favorite red dates and longans, and the sweetness was just right.
After drinking the porridge, he asked me to rest and went to the study. I knew he was going to deal with work. Because I was in the hospital these days, he postponed a lot of schedules and there must be a lot of things piled up.
I lay in bed, but I couldn't sleep. I was thinking about him and every detail of my day at the Guangzhou Tower.
After a while, I sneaked to the study door and saw him sitting in front of the computer, his fingers tapping on the keyboard quickly.
His brows were furrowed and he looked very serious. I didn't go in to disturb him. I just stood at the door and watched for a while, then gently closed the door and went back to the bedroom.
I lay in bed and secretly swore in my heart that I must go to more places with him in the future, see more scenery, and turn all the beautiful moments into our common memories.
I don’t know how long it took, but I was about to fall asleep in a daze when I suddenly felt someone lying next to me, reaching out and holding me in his arms.
I opened my eyes and saw Zhao Yin. "Are you done?" I asked.
"Well," he bent down and kissed my forehead, "go to bed, it's late."
I nodded, leaned into his arms, and quickly fell asleep.
In my dream, I returned to the Guangzhou Tower and stood on the observation deck with him, looking at the stars in the sky and the lights below.
He held my hand and told me that we would be together forever and never be apart.
