Chapter 19 First Day at Beast Academy

"I don't know where those things you mentioned are. Could you get them for me?" Ling Yunxi said.

Seeing that he couldn't fool it, the monkey-beast looked embarrassed and pretended to think, saying, "Uh..."

"Oh!" he said. "I suddenly remembered that you don't need to take it today. Go to the Beast Academy first."

He pointed to the entrance to the Beast Academy cave not far away.

When Ling Yunxi saw that he changed his mind so quickly, just as she expected, he really was here to make things difficult for her.

"Mmm," she replied.

Then he followed the other orcs inside.

On the way, all the beastmen who saw her looked at her with disdain and disgust.

"snort!"

Some let out a disdainful snort.

Ling Yunxi ignored the noise and continued walking inside.

The Beast Academy cave is constructed of wood on the outside, resembling an ancient building, with doors and windows that allow ample light during the day. Inside, it is a spacious cave.

The orcs studied in places like this.

Ling Yunxi had never entered before. The Holy Mother knew her nature and had ordered that she be forbidden from stepping inside even a little.

Now, she has entered this beast academy on her own.

The moment she entered, the previously noisy orc school suddenly fell silent.

The low murmur of conversation abruptly ceased, as if the entire space had been frozen by some invisible chill.

The strong scent of male fur in the air was still intense, but now it was mixed with something new—hostility.

Countless eyes turned to her, their pupils narrowing to slits in the pale blue morning light, like wild beasts in the darkness eyeing their prey.

Some of the orcs let out low hums from their noses, revealing sharp fangs.

Some simply turned their backs and blocked her view with their strong arms, as if her very presence was an offense.

The young orcs, who had been sitting together discussing the topic, suddenly fell silent. One of them even deliberately kicked over a stone bench, causing it to crash heavily to the ground with a piercing sound.

In the distance, several orcs who were fighting in the arena stopped, their muscular bodies steaming with heat.

They were panting heavily, but their gazes swept over coldly. One of them even spat on the ground, the saliva hitting the sand with a soft "hiss" sound.

Standing at the entrance, she could clearly feel the change in temperature—not real cold, but an invisible repulsion.

Ling Yunxi remained silent, enduring the cold gazes, and glanced around, spotting an empty seat near the podium.

She walked over and was just about to sit down when a cold, disdainful voice came from behind her.

That spot is taken.

A deep, hoarse voice came from the shadows, its tone calm yet carrying an undeniable sense of oppression.

Ling Yunxi paused upon hearing this, stood up and turned around. As she looked up, a tall eagle-clan beastman came into view.

Half of his face was hidden in the dim blue light of the moss, and several old scars were crisscrossing his rough skin.

He didn't get up, nor did he even look at her directly. He simply tapped the table slowly with his knuckles, making a dull "thump, thump" sound, as if counting down the time it would be her turn to leave.

This person was none other than Xiao Yeyu, the eagle-like beast who had been staying away from home.

But when Ling Yunxi saw that after she got up, there was a mark left on the stone bench, which meant that no one had sat there for a long time—the so-called "someone" was just an excuse to refuse.

She slowly withdrew her hand, her fingertips catching dust from the edge of the stone bench.

"Oh," Ling Yunxi said, not wanting to cause trouble on her first day, she pursed her lips and said, "Sorry, it's almost time for class, I thought no one was here."

The words had barely left her lips when the bell rang outside—

Class has started.

After leaving that spot, Ling Yunxi ignored him and scanned the classroom again, discovering an empty seat at the very back of the cave.

She walked quickly over, her straw sandals making a soft rustling sound on the ground, which, combined with her heavy figure, made her stand out particularly clearly in the silent cave.

Just as she was about to sit down, she suddenly felt a cold gaze, and then a ceramic jar full of juice suddenly flew from the side and smashed onto the stone bench with a "bang".

Dark purple juice splattered on the hem of her animal skin skirt, gradually spreading into a dark stain.

"This location—"

His voice was deep and cold, carrying a chill like the deep sea, "It's prepared for orcs who rely on 'real skills'."

He deliberately emphasized the pronunciation of the three middle characters.

The surrounding orcs immediately revealed expressions of anticipation, as if they were watching a good show.

Some people sneered, some crossed their arms, and some deliberately slammed their weapons on the ground, making a jarring impact.

Ling Yunxi looked down at the stain on a corner of her animal skin skirt. She took a deep breath, her hands clenching and unclenching at her sides. Turning around and looking up, her breath hitched slightly.

It's that mermaid.

He sat alone in the corner, half his face hidden in the shadows, the other half revealing a handsome face.

But on the other side, there is a hideous scar that runs diagonally from the brow bone to the jaw, as if it had been ripped open by some sharp weapon.

The wound had scabbed over, but it still had an unnatural dark red hue, which stood out starkly against the pale skin.

—She did it.

Merfolk are known for their beauty, and since he was disfigured, he naturally hated her to the core.

Ling Yunxi sighed inwardly. Suddenly, she noticed that the so-called "empty seat" was actually engraved with tiny runes—an ancient script used by orcs to mark seats.

Ling Yunxi's fingertips curled slightly.

She recognized it—the stone bench was engraved with intricate merfolk patterns, clearly his reserved seat.

She almost sat on it.

Just as the atmosphere reached a stalemate, heavy footsteps echoed from the cave entrance.

All the orcs instantly composed themselves and quickly returned to their positions. Even the merman with the cold face withdrew his gaze and sat up straight.

"Class is starting," a hoarse, rough voice rang out.

Ling Yunxi turned her head and saw a burly werewolf beastman walk in—

His left eye was covered by an eyepatch, but his right eye was as sharp as a knife. When he scanned the entire room, even the most arrogant orc trainees unconsciously tensed their shoulders.

The mentor's gaze lingered on the female who was still standing.

“You,” he raised his chin, his voice leaving no room for argument, “sit down.”

Ling Yunxi opened her mouth, about to explain.

The instructor, however, had already impatiently pointed to the dusty stone bench from the beginning—

“There’s an empty seat there, so I’ll sit there.”

A few low chuckles echoed from inside the cave.

That spot is unoccupied for years; the stone bench is covered with a thick layer of dust, clearly indicating that it has been unused for a long time and may even be a deliberately abandoned "exiled seat."

But now that her mentor has spoken, she has no choice.

Ling Yunxi took a deep breath and walked over.

She could feel countless eyes staring at her from behind, especially the cold gaze from the merman, which felt like a thorn in her side.
