Chapter 16: Really a top student
There were only two review books on Jiang Fengyan's desk, and the rest of the books were placed directly on the ground, stacked to a height of half a meter.
Most of Qin Yu's desk was filled with books, and the remaining space could only accommodate one book at most.
The sharp contrast between the two sides made Jiang Fengyan's pupils darken, and he simply moved the books on the floor to the table like most people in the class.
After the morning self-study get out of class, most of the students in the class lay down, leaving only a small number of people chatting in low voices.
Jiang Fengyan wrote a "C" on the exercise booklet and was about to continue writing when he vaguely noticed someone standing in front of the desk. He looked up and found that the other person was a pretty girl.
The girl noticed that Jiang Fengyan was looking at her and immediately asked, "Can I ask you a math problem?"
Jiang Fengyan hesitated for a few seconds before moving the English exercise book away and nodded, "Yes."
The girl then placed the math exercises on Jiang Fengyan's desk: "Single-choice question number five."
Since it is the beginning of September and we have just started the first round of review, and the mathematics review has only reached the level of vectors, the entire set of exercises is related to vectors.
"Points A, B, and C are collinear, which means that vector AB is parallel to vector AC. From this we can conclude that vector AB is equal to ..."
Jiang Fengyan knew the solution after just one glance at the question. He took the girl's pen and wrote down the steps on the paper. However, he suddenly stopped halfway through writing and said, "Don't look at me. There's nothing written on my face."
The girl came back to her senses and apologized to Jiang Fengyan sheepishly, but Jiang Fengyan had lost his patience: "Go ask someone else, I have things to do."
The girl was about to cry: "I really didn't mean it, and I've asked this question to many people, and they don't know the answer."
Jiang Fengyan: “?”
He looked at the questions again and found that they were indeed of medium difficulty, the type of questions that could be solved within two minutes in his previous classes.
The girl seemed to know Jiang Fengyan's confusion and explained: "Our class has the worst basic grades, and even the highest score in mathematics failed. No one can solve it except the teacher."
Jiang Fengyan only took a cursory glance at the city's quality inspection report that day, so what the girl said was beyond his comprehension.
So Jiang Fengyan managed to squeeze out some patience and continued, "From the parallel, we can conclude that 2a-2=1-b... so the maximum value is 8."
The girl did not get distracted this time. She focused on listening to Jiang Fengyan's answer, and finally realized: "So that's how it is. I got it. Thank you."
Jiang Fengyan had a blank expression on his face and did not respond to the girl.
The girl knew from the previous conversation that Jiang Fengyan had a bad temper, so she tactfully stopped disturbing him and left Jiang Fengyan's seat with the exercises.
Jiang Fengyan really didn't like teaching others how to do exercises. There was a time when people would chase him wherever he went to ask him how to do the exercises. It was not until he couldn't stand it anymore and said coldly that he didn't know how to do it that he felt a little quieter.
When the girl returned to her seat out of sight of Jiang Fengyan, several other girls immediately gathered around her.
"Can he solve this problem?"
"How is he? Why does he look so cold?"
"It only took him a few seconds to look at the question and start teaching me. The answer is correct." The girl answered her friend's question in turn, "It's not easy to get along with."
"He's really a top student!"
"After all, he was originally from North City. Even if he is ranked last, his grades are definitely better than the top student in our class."
"But he is really handsome. He looks almost as good as Qin Yu."
"By the way, why hasn't Qin Yu come to class yet?"
"I don't know. Did he skip class again?"
“…”
The ten-minute break was fleeting for most students. The English teacher walked into the classroom with her bag, stood on the podium and picked up the roll call sheet: "Besides Qin Yu, who else is missing?"
Class monitor Liu Zhenwei looked up from a thick vocabulary book: "No. 32 Chen Xiao asks for leave."
The English teacher picked up a pen and wrote a number. After putting the roll call sheet at the door, he walked back into the classroom and said, "Okay, let's start the random recitation. Those who can't recite, please write it down 30 times."
The atmosphere in the class was extremely quiet at this moment.
"The first one is Shen Chenan."
Shen Chenan lazily placed his hands on the table and slowly stood up from his chair, looking unprepared.
Unexpectedly, Shen Chenan recited the entire article at a steady pace, and the pronunciation of each word was fairly standard.
After Shen Chenan finished reciting, the English teacher praised him, "Isn't this a good recitation? Give me a passing grade in English next time."
Chen Chenan immediately returned to his original lazy state, as if being able to recite the model essay just now was his greatest satisfaction: "It's good enough to get 80."
The English teacher said decisively: "There is no need to discuss this matter further. Sit down."
"Next one, number 19."
“…”
After more than ten minutes, the English teacher randomly checked nine students in total, of whom only six could memorize the model essay, and the remaining three were recorded on the list of students to be punished by copying.
Most of the students sat upright, fearing that they would be the next one to be picked.
Jiang Fengyan raised his eyes slightly and saw Su Maojie, who was sitting in front of him, putting his hands together and praying. Faintly, he seemed to hear Su Maojie muttering: "Don't pick me, don't pick me..."
Jiang Fengyan: “…”
"New student, do you want to try to recite the model essay?"
Jiang Fengyan retracted his gaze, looked up, and found that most people in the class were looking at him, most of them with an exploratory look.
Jiang Fengyan stood up without much hesitation and recited the model essay he had just memorized word for word.
"Your pronunciation is very standard. Your English is pretty good, right?" asked the English teacher.
Jiang Fengyan lowered his eyes: "Not very good."
"The first monthly exam will be held in a dozen days. We'll talk about it then." The English teacher did not focus on this question. After letting Jiang Fengyan sit down, he continued, "Yes, the first monthly exam will be held at the end of the month."
"ah--"
There were wailing sounds coming from the classroom one after another.
"Stop howling. We have to take a test at least once a month. But I have good news for you. After the monthly test at the end of the month, there will be a sports meet."
Most people became excited when they heard the word "sports meeting".
"Let your class teacher explain the details. Class will start now."
During the two consecutive English classes, Jiang Fengyan was mostly doing his own things, and only listened for a while when the English teacher talked about frequently tested vocabulary.
At the same time, he also found that many students were daydreaming in class, or looking down at their mobile phones in the drawer. In short, there were few students in the class who listened to the class seriously.
This was very different from his original study environment where every second counted, but it wasn't that he couldn't adapt to it. He just simply felt that these behaviors were very novel.
The third and fourth periods were math classes, and even fewer people listened attentively.
The math teacher looked very old, probably close to retirement, with wrinkles on his face showing the signs of time. Even when not many people were listening to him, he still taught very seriously.
"Please come up to the blackboard and do the following question." The math teacher saw that the students in the class were drowsy and wanted to use this opportunity to liven up the atmosphere.
However, no one responded to him.
