Chapter 226 The Devil's Base Camp

Chapter 226 The Devil's Base Camp

Uncle Tom seemed to be lost in deep memories, a little dazed. Looking at the cars coming and going on the street, Mi Xia and Zhang Susu were so scared that they quickly patted Uncle Tom.

"Uncle Tom, what are you doing? We are on the road." Zhang Susu said with lingering fear.

"Oh, sorry, I remembered some past events, some very unpleasant things that I can't forget." Uncle Tom suddenly woke up and apologized repeatedly.

Zhang Susu continued, "Uncle Tom, you are really not a competent taxi driver."

Old Tom swore, "I'm really sorry, but I promise that although I was distracted just now, there was absolutely no danger. I swear to God that Old Tom has never had a car accident in the past 25 years, and he hasn't even had a paint scratched off."

Mi Xia and Zhang Susu were speechless.

"Uncle Tom, drive carefully and chat while driving! It's really dangerous to drive like you just did."

After the shock he had just had, Old Tom felt somewhat guilty. Therefore, when I regained my spirits and drove, I looked particularly cautious.

Mi Xia and Zhang Susu didn't say anything, they just focused on looking at the beautiful scenery outside the window.

Gradually, the car drove away from the downtown area. The closer it got to the 굛꺘 district, the fewer cars there were on the road.

Seeing that there were no cars within a few meters ahead, Uncle Tom, who had been holding back all the way, finally couldn't help but say, "The front is the parking lot, are you sure you want to go in?"

"Is there any danger?" Mi Xia asked.

Uncle Tom shook his head. "There is no danger. I said before that I came from the 굛꺘 area. Those guys in the 굛꺘 area know me and will not cause any trouble to my guests."

"Then why are you still hesitating?" Zhang Susu asked curiously.

Uncle Tom slowed down the car: "I just don't want you to see some things, I'm afraid you can't accept it."

Zhang Susu replied without hesitation: "Uncle Tom, just let it go. To be honest, I have been through all the hard times in China. I don't believe that America can be any worse."

Uncle Tom didn't say anything more, but slowly drove the car into the street symbolizing the 굛꺘 district.

"Hey, Old Tom, you're lucky you didn't come! Come and have a couple of drinks before you leave?" As soon as he entered the entertainment area, a black man shouted at Old Tom.

It seems that what Old Tom said was true, he did live here for many years.

Zhang Susu looked around and found that the 굛꺘 area was not as dilapidated as she had imagined. Zhang Susu thought it was just a messy shantytown.

There were only a few pedestrians on the street. The buildings on both sides had fallen into disrepair over the years, with paint peeling off on a large scale, revealing the original cement color of the walls.

The whole street is not like the other districts along the way, with tall buildings and shops everywhere.

There are only a few businesses in the entire 굛꺘 area, all of which are small shops selling daily necessities. There are no clothing stores, beauty shops, etc. like in other blocks.

But Zhang Susu discovered one thing, that is, every few meters, there were always some people lying on the ground, there were old people with white hair and beards, there were young people in their twenties, there were men and women, they just lay on the street like that, no one cared about them.

Zhang Susu looked at Mi Xia strangely and said, "Mi Xia, except that the houses here are a little old, there are fewer pedestrians on the road, and there are fewer shops. And there are these pedestrians lying on the road, everything else looks normal, right?"

Mi Xia shook her head and looked at Uncle Tom: "Uncle Tom, can you let us really see the area?"

Uncle Tom nodded, and the car suddenly turned at an intersection not far ahead.

The car drove into an alley, which was the back of the tall buildings on the street.

As soon as I entered the alley, a foul odor mixed with alcohol, tobacco and some indescribable smell hit me in the face.

Behind the dilapidated building, there are houses separated by wooden boards. Let's call them houses for the time being, because some of the houses don't even have roofs. They are just temporarily built with a few wooden boards to separate a few small flat spaces.

In such a small space, there were constant sounds of babies crying, women scolding, and some slapping sounds like something hitting the body.

Uncle Tom slowly slowed down the car until he stopped, and signaled Mi Xia and Zhang Susu to roll up the windows.

The reason for parking was not for anything else but because there were children of all ages surrounding us. The children had different skin colors, some were yellow, some were white, and the most common was black. None of the children's clothes were intact, and none of the children were wearing shoes. But without exception, there was a look of longing in every child's eyes.

Seeing that the car was surrounded by children and couldn't move a step, Uncle Tom opened the door and walked out.

At this time, several adults came out of the "house" inside. When they saw Uncle Tom from a distance, they shouted, "Old Tom, I knew it was you. Apart from you, I have never seen anyone dare to drive a car here casually. Last time a guy drove here, he took five dollars before leaving."

Old Tom gave the man who was walking towards him a big hug and said, "Jason, you guys are charging more than the people at the Transportation Department. God, five bucks, you're so brave."

The other men who came out with him drove the children away and hugged Uncle Tom one by one.

"Old Tom, what are you doing?" Jason pointed at Mi Xia and Zhang Susu in the car.

"I'm just passing by with guests. I missed you guys! Come, I've prepared some food and clothes in the trunk. Give them to the children!"

Uncle Tom asked a few people to go to the trunk to take out the food and clothes prepared in advance, and then said goodbye to everyone present one by one.

Uncle Tom returned to the car, fastened his seat belt skillfully, started the car, and slowly drove away as countless people outside the window waved goodbye.

“It’s surprising, right? You never thought that the beautiful country, which is known as the world’s most powerful country, also has such a side, right? This is just the tip of the iceberg. You don’t have cars. In fact, the children who can come out and surround the cars are all living very well. The children who are really not living well are here.” Uncle Tom pointed to the waterway outside the car window.

"What about the waterway?" Zhang Susu asked cautiously.

"Yes, the 떘 Waterway. This is the 굛꺘 District, known as the Sin Capital of the Beautiful Country. All the people here have lived here for generations. But it was labeled as a sinner for some historical reasons."

Uncle Tom laughed at himself: "Being born here is original sin. Everyone thinks this is the birthplace of sin and the base camp of the devil."
