Chapter 133 The Smoke of Battle on the Balance Beam

The student council office was filled with the rich aroma of coffee in the early morning.

As soon as Yu Jiuyuan sat down, she saw an exquisite velvet box on the corner of the table. When she opened it, she found a silver-white fountain pen with tiny sapphires embedded in the nib.

The fountain pen that Xie Zhecheng gave her was sent to be re-polished, and even the grip was slightly adjusted to fit her finger shape.

"President Xie, you're so kind." She smiled at Xie Zhecheng, who was standing by the window, as her fingertips traced the cool surface of the pen.

Xie Zhecheng turned around, the morning light outlining his cold, hard profile: "The sandalwood pen you gave me is very useful."

He paused, then added, "It's better than anything I've used before."

This straightforward praise brought a hint of a smile to Yu Jiuyuan's eyes.

His praise, usually reserved for perfectionism, now flowed silently over my heart like warm water.

"I'm glad you like it." She took out her notebook. "Have you read the speech for the joint club activity?"

The two huddled around the table to discuss, her fingertips marking revisions on the manuscript, his pen following closely behind, their tacit understanding as if they had rehearsed it a thousand times.

Sunlight streamed through the blinds and fell on the backs of their clasped hands, warm as a thin veil.

"President!"

Lin Yanran's voice suddenly rang out at the door. He was holding the attendance sheet in his hand. When he saw the two people in front of the table, he stopped abruptly and his face instantly darkened.

Yu Jiuyuan looked up at him, the smile in her eyes unchanged: "Is the attendance sheet ready?"

Lin Yanran slammed the watch on the table, the paper making a screeching sound: "It's done! See for yourself!"

His gaze swept back and forth between Xie Zhecheng and Yu Jiuyuan, like a lion whose territory had been invaded, his whole body covered in thorns.

Xie Zhecheng frowned: "Officer Lin, watch your attitude."

"What's wrong with my attitude?" Lin Yanran retorted, "The student union is a place for offices, not for you to flirt!"

"Lin Yanran!" Yu Jiuyuan's voice turned colder. "Go out and stand in the corner as punishment. Come back in when you've thought things through."

Her tone was undeniably forceful. Lin Yanran opened her mouth, but ultimately didn't dare to talk back. She glared fiercely at Xie Zhecheng, turned around, and slammed the door shut as she left.

The office fell silent again. Xie Zhecheng adjusted his glasses and said, "He seems to be interested in you..."

"Childish temper."

Yu Jiuyuan interrupted him, closing her notebook. "Never mind him. By the way, Yuanxu said there are newly cultivated varieties at the biology exhibition this afternoon. Shall we go check it out?"

Xie Zhecheng nodded: "Okay."

As he turned to leave, Yu Jiuyuan watched his retreating figure, her fingertips lightly tapping the table.

Lin Yanran's jealousy and Xie Zhecheng's forbearance are like chess pieces on a chessboard, each move calculated by her.

When I went to the lab to find Yuan Xu at noon, the boy was dozing off in front of a petri dish, his cheek pressed against the cool glass, his brows slightly furrowed, as if he were having some uneasy dream.

Yu Jiuyuan picked up a blanket and covered him with it. The moment her fingertips touched his shoulder, Yuan Xu woke up with a start.

"Jiuyuan?" He rubbed his eyes, and when he saw it was her, he immediately woke up and proudly presented a petri dish. "Look! It's mutated! The fluorescence has turned pink!"

The mycelia in the petri dish emitted a soft pink glow, like crushed sunset clouds.

Yu Jiuyuan leaned closer to look, her eyes filled with sincere admiration: "It's beautiful, Yuan Xu, you're amazing."

"Really?" Yuan Xu's eyes lit up like stars. "I want to name it after you, how about 'Jiuyuan Pink'?"

"Isn't this too conspicuous?"

“No!” Yuan Xu insisted. “This is the most perfect variety I have ever cultivated, so it should have the best name.”

His purity is like a mirror, softening people's hearts.

Yu Jiuyuan smiled and nodded: "Okay."

Just then, Rong Shenghan pushed the door open and came in, carrying two lunches in his hands: "What are you busy with?" His gaze fell on Yuan Xu's hand, which was draped over Yu Jiuyuan's shoulder, and the temperature in his eyes instantly dropped a few degrees.

"Look at Yuan Xu's new discovery." Yu Jiuyuan naturally took the lunch. "I was just about to go find you."

She opened the lunchbox and picked out all the shrimp and put them into Rong Shenghan's bowl, knowing he liked this.

Rong Shenghan's expression softened a bit, but he deliberately said, "Yuan Xu's experiment is very interesting. Why don't you move to the lab?"

Yuan Xu hesitated for a moment: "Is it okay? If Jiu Yuan moves in, I can make room for you..."

"Yuan Xu!" Yu Jiuyuan glared at Rong Shenghan. "Don't listen to his nonsense."

Rong Shenghan chuckled and pinched her cheek: "Just kidding."

The biology exhibition was packed with people in the afternoon. Yuan Xu was surrounded by people explaining the newly cultivated strains, her face full of pride.

Yu Jiuyuan stood outside the crowd watching when she was suddenly pulled to a quiet corner.

Rong Shenghan placed his hand on the wall behind her, pulling her into his arms, his gaze deep: "Why didn't you dodge when Yuan Xu pulled your hand just now?"

"What are you hiding from?" Yu Jiuyuan looked up at him, a hint of cunning in her eyes. "Do you expect me to avoid him like the plague?"

"At least keep your distance." Rong Shenghan's kiss landed on her neck, carrying a hint of punishment. "The way he looks at you is getting weirder and weirder."

“Your eyes are off too.” Yu Jiuyuan returned his kiss, her fingertips tracing his Adam’s apple. “You’re so jealous, it’s making my nose almost malfunction.”

Rong Shenghan chuckled softly and bit her lip: "Who told you to always attract so many suitors?"

The two were deeply in love when a cough suddenly came from behind them.

Ji Luoqin stood not far away, her smile gentle: "Sorry to bother you, but I just saw that Jiu Yuan's 'Jiu Yuan Pink' is very special and I wanted to come and ask her about it."
