The afternoons are always bathed in lazy sunlight. The blinds in the student union office are rotated to the perfect angle, casting dappled light and shadow on the floor.
Yu Jiuyuan was looking down at the club activity report when, amidst the scratching sound of her pen on the paper, she suddenly heard a light knock on the glass door.
When she looked up, Su Jingshu was already standing at the door.
The newcomer was wearing a white dress uniform from St. Sakura Academy, with a standard bow tie at the collar, and her long hair was neatly tied back.
But those beautiful almond-shaped eyes lacked any of the clarity that belonged to a young girl; instead, they were like an icy pool, gleaming with a chilling light when they looked at her.
"President Yu, is it convenient for us to talk?" Su Jingshu's voice was soft, but it carried an undeniable certainty.
Before Yu Jiuyuan could respond, she pushed the door open and locked it behind her.
Yu Jiuyuan put down her pen, her fingertips lightly tapping the smooth edge of the report: "Miss Su, did you come to me about the student council? I remember that the flower arrangement club you're in charge of just submitted its summary last week."
"What I want to talk to you about is the Su family."
Su Jingshu walked to the desk and looked down at her, her skirt sweeping across the carpet and stirring up fine dust.
She suddenly laughed, a laugh that seemed particularly jarring in the sunlight. "Yu Jiuyuan, I know you want to take down the Su family. I can help you, I can help you destroy them."
The nib of the fountain pen spreads a small dot of ink on the paper.
Yu Jiuyuan raised her eyes, her gaze filled with just the right amount of surprise: "What do you mean by that, Miss Su? That's your family."
"Family?" Su Jingshu seemed to have heard a joke, bending down and leaning on the edge of the table, the distance between the two suddenly closing.
"You think the Su family treats me like family? They just use me as a bargaining chip for a marriage alliance, just like they pushed my mother to that old man back then."
Her nails, painted with clear nail polish, were pressed against the solid wood table, leaving faint crescent-shaped marks.
Yu Jiuyuan noticed a light pink scar on the inside of her wrist, as if it had been strangled by something.
“I know Rong Shenghan lives with you.”
Su Jingshu suddenly changed the subject, her gaze sharp as a knife.
“I also know why he moved in. I know better than you about the power behind the Su family. I even know that you let him stay in the villa not just to warm the bed.”
The surprise on Yu Jiuyuan's face slowly faded, replaced by an almost playful calm.
She leaned back in her chair and crossed her legs: "Miss Su has certainly done her homework. But why should I believe you?"
"Because we have a common enemy."
Su Jingshu straightened up, took out a small USB flash drive from her school uniform pocket, placed it on the table, and gently pushed it.
"This contains the loopholes in the Su family's accounts for the past three years, as well as evidence of their dealings with several shady businesses. My father thought it was well hidden, but little did he know that I had already made a copy."
The USB flash drive gleamed with a cold, hard metallic luster in the sunlight.
Looking at the little thing, Yu Jiuyuan suddenly remembered the way Rong Shenghan had looked at documents on her lap during the winter break. A certain name that his fingertips had traced at that time seemed to appear in the "gray industry" that Su Jingshu had just mentioned.
"What do you want?" Yu Jiuyuan finally asked.
"I want to see my father kneel before me and repent on the day the Su family goes bankrupt."
Su Jingshu's voice echoed in the quiet office, carrying a ruthless edge, "I also need you to agree to one condition: the Lin family cannot interfere."
Yu Jiuyuan raised an eyebrow.
It's no secret that the Lin and Su families are on good terms. Given Lin Yanran's arrogant nature, if he knew that someone was trying to harm the Su family, he might not just stand by and do nothing.
“Lin Yanran is a student council member,” she said slowly. “I can’t exactly tie him up, can I?”
"You have a way."
Su Jingshu looked at her with certainty.
“Yu Jiuyuan, you can make Rong Shenghan listen to you, make the Ji brothers revolve around you, and make people like Xie Zhecheng look at you differently. Dealing with Lin Yanran will not be difficult for you.”
Her words were like a fine needle, precisely piercing certain unspoken secrets.
Yu Jiuyuan suddenly smiled, reached out and picked up the USB drive, her fingertips tracing its cool exterior: "Miss Su seems to know me quite well."
"After all, we are the same kind of people."
Su Jingshu's gaze softened, but it only made people feel colder.
"On the surface, I pretend to be innocent and harmless, but I hide a knife in my heart. It's just that I've been hiding it for too long, and it's about to rust, while you are very good at using it."
When the office door was knocked on, the two of them simultaneously fell silent.
It was Rong Shenghan's voice, coming through the door, with his usual gentle tone: "President, President Xie asked me to pick up last week's debate club evaluation sheet."
Yu Jiuyuan put the USB drive into her school uniform pocket and called out, "Come in."
The moment the door was pushed open, Su Jingshu had already returned to her docile demeanor, looking down at the photos of the flower arrangement club on her desk, as if the thrilling conversation that had just taken place had never happened.
Rong Shenghan's gaze lingered briefly on her before landing on Yu Jiuyuan's face, his eyes carrying a hint of barely perceptible inquiry.
"Here."
Yu Jiuyuan pulled a form out of the pile of documents and handed it to him. Her fingertips accidentally touched his hand, and she felt the roughness of the gauze on his fingertips, a mark left from his previous injury.
Rong Shenghan took the form, glanced at Su Jingshu, and said in a flat tone, "Miss Su is here too."
"Yes, I've come to ask President Yu some questions about the club."
Su Jingshu's smile was flawless.
Rong Shenghan didn't ask any more questions and turned to leave the office.
