Chapter 141 Spider Web

As dusk crept into the corridor, Yu Jiuyuan stood in front of the bulletin board checking the list of new club members.

The cherry blossoms outside the corridor fell in a carpet of pink and white, the evening breeze swirling around her shoes like someone's shattered thoughts.

"President Yu seems to have a lot of free time."

Su Jingshu's voice, tinged with coolness, came from behind her. When Yu Jiuyuan turned around, she saw half an envelope sticking out of the other girl's school uniform pocket. The off-white paper was printed with the family crest in gold, which was the Su family's private seal.

"Miss Su, you didn't come all the way here just to praise my work efficiency."

Yu Jiuyuan traced the three characters "Lin Yanran" on the bulletin board with her fingertip. The name was circled in red pen used by the student council, and next to it was written "Responsible for venue setup".

Su Jingshu walked to her side, followed her gaze to the notice board, and suddenly chuckled: "Having him in charge of the wrap-up work at the banquet venue has saved a lot of trouble."

She pulled the letter out of her pocket and handed it over; the edges of the envelope were still warm from her touch.

“This is the key to my father’s study. There’s a black notebook on the third shelf of the safe, which records the details of his transactions with those people.”

Yu Jiuyuan took the envelope, her fingertips touching the cold metal plate inside.

Instead of opening it immediately, she turned to look at Su Jingshu: "Aren't you afraid that after I get the stuff, I'll sell you off too?"

"I'm scared."

Su Jingshu looked up at the crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling, its light shattering into stars in her pupils.

“But I’m even more afraid that I won’t live to see the day the Su family goes bankrupt. You know what? My mother’s death anniversary is the day after tomorrow. Every year on this day, my father goes to that secret room in the factory to ‘pay respects,’ but actually he goes to destroy the evidence from back then.”

Her voice was very soft, as if afraid of disturbing something, but Yu Jiuyuan could hear a venomous hatred in it.

"The password to the secret room is my mother's birthday."

Su Jingshu suddenly turned to look at her, her eyes gleaming with a desperate light. "On the day of the banquet, I'll find a way to lock him inside. As for the rest... that's up to you."

Yu Jiuyuan held the envelope, her fingertips tracing the embossed emblem on it.

The system panel suddenly popped up in his mind. Ji Luoqin's favorability rating still showed "unknown", but the emotional fluctuation value had quietly changed to 90 for negative and 15 for positive.

She recalled the scene of encountering Ji Luoqin at the laboratory entrance yesterday.

He was wearing a white lab coat, with a bit of blue biological dye on his cuffs. When he saw her, he didn't stick close to her like usual, but just stared at the test tube in her hand and asked, "What are you doing?"

"Could you prepare some nutrient solution for Yuanxu?" She smiled innocently, deliberately letting the liquid slosh around as she handed over the test tube. "Do you need any help?"

He didn't answer, but suddenly reached out and pinched her chin with such force that it felt like he was going to crush her bones: "Yu Jiuyuan, don't go too far."

The warning in his tone was almost overflowing, but deep in his eyes was a tension that even he himself was unaware of.

What an interesting trapped beast.

Yu Jiuyuan thought to herself casually, but her face showed a puzzled expression: "What does what Miss Su said have to do with the Ji family?"

“It’s very important.” Su Jingshu took out a yellowed photo from her school uniform pocket. The man in the photo was wearing a military uniform, and his features bore a striking resemblance to Ji Luoqin.

"This is the officer who was in charge of the land dispute back then. He was suddenly demobilized and became a 'shadow shareholder' of the Su family. And he is the younger brother of the Ji family patriarch."

Yu Jiuyuan's fingertips paused for a moment.

Why is Ji Luoqin targeting Rong Shenghan so much?

Su Jingshu took a step closer and lowered her voice even further.

"Because what Rong Shenghan found out wasn't just the Su family, but also the Ji family's hidden hand. When you begged him to let Rong Shenghan go, what he was thinking was probably how to make you completely unable to leave him."

The evening breeze carried cherry blossoms into the corridor, where they landed on the ground between the two people.

Looking at the unfamiliar man in the photo, Yu Jiuyuan suddenly remembered what Rong Shenghan had said when he was looking at documents on her lap: "The people behind the Su family are more complicated than we thought."

At the time, she was playing with his injured finger and casually hummed in agreement, without telling him that she had already found the secret of the "shadow shareholder" in Yuan Xu's gene sequence database.

His DNA sample matched Ji Luoqin's with a 99% match.

"So, what do you want me to do?" Yu Jiuyuan returned the photo, her tone finally showing a hint of genuine interest.

"It's very simple."

Su Jingshu put away the photos, her smile laced with calculated sweetness. "Drag the Ji family into this. Let them fight like dogs."

Footsteps came from the end of the corridor; it was Rong Shenghan walking over with a folder in his arms.

He was wearing the student council's black uniform, his tie was tied meticulously, and his left hand was in a cast. He nodded slightly when he saw Su Jingshu, but his gaze paused when it fell on the envelope in Yu Jiuyuan's hand.

"President, President Xie asked you to review the guest list for the banquet."

He handed her the folder, his fingertips brushing against the back of her hand, and said in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Ji Nianqin is waiting for you in her office."

Yu Jiuyuan took the folder and casually slipped the envelope into Rong Shenghan's uniform pocket, her movements as natural as handing him a pen: "Keep it with you."

Rong Shenghan's fingertips twitched inside his pocket, and he replied in a low voice, "Okay."

Looking at the unspoken understanding between the two, Su Jingshu suddenly smiled: "It seems I didn't choose the wrong person."

After she finished speaking, she turned to leave, but then looked back as if she remembered something. "Oh, right, Lin Yanran's Song Dynasty porcelain plate is fake. I had it made into a replica."

Yu Jiuyuan watched her figure disappear into the twilight and opened the guest list in her hand.
