In late autumn, the plane tree leaves at Saint Sakura Academy turned the ground a golden carpet. As Yu Jiuyuan walked towards the teaching building, she saw a ostentatious red sports car parked at the school gate from afar. The license plate number belonged to the Lin family and stood out among the other understated luxury cars.
Lin Yanran leaned against the car, the collar of her custom-made suit open, an unlit cigarette dangling from her lips, exuding an aura of arrogance that said "keep away." He was clearly waiting for her, his gaze like a scorched knife, shooting straight at her.
“Yu Jiuyuan,” he said before she even got close, his voice still carrying the lingering rage of alcohol, “Did you receive the lawyer’s letter from the Su family? Don’t think that just because Xie Zhecheng helped you sign a worthless letter of intent, you can run rampant in the eastern part of the city.”
Yu Jiuyuan stopped three steps away from him, her skirt fluttering slightly in the wind.
She wore an innocent smile, seemingly oblivious to the hostility in his words: "Young Master Lin came all the way to school to ambush me just to say this?"
When she looked up, her eyelashes shimmered with a pale gold in the sunlight. "Do you still think that causing trouble at the entrance of Saint Cherry makes you seem very capable?"
Lin Yanran's face instantly darkened. He hated it most when people talked about his "lack of learning and skills," especially in this prestigious academy where he only studied sporadically.
"Stop playing dumb with me!" He took a step forward, his breath carrying the scent of cigars and alcohol. "The Su family has already allied with three real estate developers. The Yu family wants to take over the land in the east of the city by themselves? Dream on!"
Yu Jiuyuan did not back down. Instead, she tilted her head slightly and looked directly into his eyes: "Has Young Master Lin forgotten? Your father was still talking to my father about cooperation last week, exchanging that unfinished building in the west of the city for the priority development rights in the east of the city."
Her voice was soft, yet like a needle, precisely piercing Lin Yanran's sore spot, "You're here fighting for the Su family, aren't you afraid your father will find out?"
Lin Yanran clenched her fist tightly, her knuckles turning white. Yu Jiuyuan knew that the Lin family was already divided on the issue of the land in the east of the city. Lin's father wanted to cooperate with the Yu family, but Lin Yanran was being used as a pawn by the Su family. This contradiction was the breakthrough point for her to tear through the Lin family's defenses.
[Lin Yanran: Favorability 0 (Triggered "Anger" emotion, Hostility +10)]
"Stop trying to sow discord!" Lin Yanran's voice rose, attracting the attention of several passing students. "My Lin family's affairs are none of your business, a woman!"
“Oh?” Yu Jiuyuan suddenly chuckled, her gaze passing over him to the school gate. “Wouldn’t Xie Zhecheng be considered an ‘outsider’? He just helped your dad revise the renovation plan for the unfinished building in the west of the city, using a structural mechanics model that you wouldn’t understand.”
Lin Yanran turned around abruptly and saw Xie Zhecheng walking out of the school gate with his schoolbag on his back.
The boy wore a clean white shirt, and his gaze behind his glasses was as cold as ice, as if the surrounding noise had nothing to do with him.
He didn't even glance in their direction, heading straight for the black sedan parked not far away.
"You saw that?" Yu Jiuyuan's voice was tinged with mockery. "Both are top-tier wealthy families, but some are paving the way for their families, while others are being used as pawns for others. Young Master Lin, who do you think your father values more?"
Lin Yanran's face flushed red and then paled. Yu Jiuyuan knew the time was right, and as she turned to leave, she deliberately "accidentally" dropped the folder in her hand.
The documents were scattered all over the floor. The top one was clearly a preliminary letter of intent for the joint development between the Yu family and the Lin family, and Yu's father had already signed it.
Lin Yanran's gaze was fixed on the paper as if drawn by a magnet.
Yu Jiuyuan bent down to pick it up, her movements so slow it was as if she was giving him enough time to see clearly. She wanted him to know that the Lin family's balance had already begun to tilt, and that his arrogance was worthless in the face of absolute interests.
"It seems Young Master Lin isn't in the mood for class today." She finished organizing the documents, her smile still innocent. "But just a heads up, the student council will be checking attendance this afternoon, and your absences this month are already enough to warrant a major demerit."
As she turned to walk towards the teaching building, she heard the roar of a sports car engine behind her; Lin Yanran must have stormed off in anger. A system panel popped up in her mind: [Lin Yanran: Hostility -5 (Triggered "Wave of Interests")].
Very well, once the arrogant peacock realizes that its feathers are worthless, it will start to panic.
In the student council office, Rong Shenghan chuckled softly at his computer screen. He turned his head to the side, revealing the surveillance footage on the screen, which showed the scene that had just occurred at the school gate.
"The president's methods for dealing with Lin Yanran are getting more and more direct." He pointed to the moment when Lin Yanran clenched his fist in the picture. "Aren't you afraid that he will get angry and cause trouble for you at school?"
“He wouldn’t dare.” Yu Jiuyuan placed the folder on the table, the metal clasp making a crisp sound. “Lin’s father just called my dad yesterday, saying he wanted Lin Yanran to come to the student council as a member, to temper her character.”
When she looked up, her gaze fell on Rong Shenghan's computer. "The vice president can even access the surveillance footage at the school gate. His authority is even greater than that of the student council president."
Rong Shenghan closed the monitoring page and instead pulled up a document: "Of the three real estate developers that the Su family has allied with, two have a past relationship with the Rong family."
He pushed the documents over, saying, "Their cash flow is problematic. If the loan to just one of them is cut off, the alliance will collapse on its own."
Yu Jiuyuan flipped to the end of the document and saw Rong Shenghan's name marked with a red pen as the bank president's name. She suddenly chuckled, "Is the vice president... trying to curry favor with me?"
"Aren't we mutually beneficial?" Rong Shenghan leaned back in his chair, sunlight filtering through the blinds and casting dappled patterns of light and shadow on his face.
"By helping you deal with the Lin family, I can also get access to the Yuan family's laboratory sooner. After all, doesn't the president know that I transferred to Saint Sakura not just to become the vice president?"
