The wind carried the sweet scent of budding grass and trees, and as it passed over the second-floor terrace of the villa, it lifted a corner of the gauze curtain.
Yu Jiuyuan leaned against the window, flipping through a book. Her fingertips traced the gold-embossed title, but her gaze fell on the garden downstairs. Yuan Xu was squatting in front of the rose bushes, carefully removing dead leaves with tweezers in her hand, not caring that the hem of her white coat was covered with a bit of grass.
She put down her book and went downstairs, her footsteps very light. It wasn't until she reached Yuan Xu behind her that Yuan Xu turned around as if she had just noticed her, her eyes behind her glasses brightening: "You're back."
"You're so busy you've lost track of time."
Yu Jiuyuan bent down and brushed a petal off his shoulder. Her fingertips brushed against his neck and she felt his Adam's apple move almost imperceptibly. "Didn't you say you were going to rest on Sunday? You've brought the lab here again."
Yuan Xu stood up, still holding the gleaming silver tweezers in her hand, her fingertips tinged with a faint red.
He wasn't used to being looked at so closely, so he turned his head slightly and looked down at the bow on her collar: "The samples I collected yesterday need to be processed, and by the way..." He paused, his voice lowering, "I wanted to wait for you to come back."
Yu Jiuyuan smiled, reached out and hooked her arm around his wrist to lead him into the house: "Leave the samples, keep me company first."
The living room's floor-to-ceiling windows were wide open, letting in a flood of sunlight that cast the shadows of the window panes across the floor.
Yuan Xu was pulled to sit on the sofa by her, but before she could even sit properly, she was gently pressed against the back of the sofa.
She straddled his lap, her fingertips slowly unbuttoning his white coat with a casual intimacy.
"Did they spend a long time in the study again yesterday?" she asked knowingly, her fingertips tracing the pale blue veins on his collarbone.
Yuan Xu's breathing faltered for a moment, then she nodded: "We're talking about... things in the future."
He wasn't good at talking about these things, especially the word "sharing," which made him instinctively uncomfortable, but looking into Yu Jiuyuan's eyes, he swallowed his awkwardness back. "If you're willing..."
"What would I be willing to do?" Yu Jiuyuan leaned down, her nose brushing against his earlobe, her voice as sweet as honey, "I'd be willing to let you have a little more of me today?"
Yuan Xu's ears turned bright red instantly.
He was never good at dealing with her direct teasing, so he could only reach out and hold her waist, his fingertips sinking into her soft fabric.
Yu Jiuyuan seized the opportunity to kiss him, from the corner of his lips to his chin, and then to the sensitive skin on the side of his neck. Her kisses were light and slow, as if she were savoring a precious collectible.
She knew where Yuan Xu's weakness lay. He seemed to be immersed in his own biological world, indifferent to everything, but once he fell in love, he would become like a precision instrument with a switch flipped, every nerve becoming exceptionally sensitive.
She unbuttoned his shirt, her fingertips tracing the skin of his chest, and felt his body tense instantly, his breathing becoming heavy.
"No...not here..." Yuan Xu's voice was hoarse, with a hint of pleading.
Unlike Rong Shenghan, who was used to indulging himself anywhere, or Xie Zhecheng, who was restrained to the core, his embarrassment was always straightforward and honest.
Yu Jiuyuan chuckled softly, got up, and pulled him toward the guest room.
Since Yuan Xu moved in, he has turned this room into a temporary laboratory. Several incubators are piled up in the corner, and there is a faint smell of disinfectant in the air, which strangely blends with his aura, making people feel at ease.
She locked the door behind her back, and as soon as she turned around, Yuan Xu pressed her against the door panel.
This time he didn't hesitate. His kiss was urgent and deep, filled with a long-suppressed desire.
His hands awkwardly unzipped her skirt, his fingertips slightly burning as they touched her skin, as if afraid of breaking something, his movements filled with careful tenderness.
Yu Jiuyuan let him take the lead, raised her hand to hook his neck, and whispered in his ear, "Yuanxu, look at me."
He suddenly opened his eyes, and behind his glasses, his gaze was filled with the familiar infatuation she knew, along with a hint of barely perceptible fear. He was always afraid that he wasn't doing enough, afraid that he wouldn't be able to hold her attention.
Yu Jiuyuan kissed away the wrinkles between his brows, and took the initiative to guide his hand, showing him with her actions: Don't be afraid, I am yours now.
Sunlight streamed through the blinds, casting dappled shadows on the floor that swayed gently with the movements of the two people.
Yuan Xu's white coat was thrown on the chair, her shirt open, revealing her slender yet strong back.
He wasn't as aggressively assertive as Rong Shenghan, nor as restrained and patient as Xie Zhecheng. His movements carried an almost devout focus, as if he were conducting a precise experiment. Every touch was carefully considered, yet when moved by emotion, it revealed an instinctive eagerness.
Yu Jiuyuan was pressed down on the lab table by him, the cool glass against her back, a stark contrast to the heat on her body.
Looking at his reddened eyes and tightly pursed lips, she suddenly found Yuan Xu exceptionally moving.
She raised her hand and pressed it against the back of his neck, forcing him to lower his head and kiss her. As their tongues intertwined, she heard his suppressed breathing.
"Slow down..." she whispered, her fingertips tracing his sweaty forehead.
Yuan Xu paused, as if trying to calm her breathing, then leaned down again, her kiss becoming much gentler, yet carrying an undeniable persistence.
He was exploring a completely new field, cautious yet full of enthusiasm, with every touch imbued with his unique seriousness.
Time became blurred in this entanglement, the birdsong outside the window gradually thinned out, and the sunlight slowly moved from an oblique angle to overhead.
Several test tubes on the lab bench were knocked over, making a crisp sound, but no one paid any attention.
Yu Jiuyuan leaned against Yuan Xu's chest, listening to his strong heartbeat, and drew circles on his chest with her fingertips.
