Chapter 189 Xiang Yanran

The evening glow shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows on the second floor of the villa, casting a soft golden hue over the living room.

Yu Jiuyuan had just returned from the student council office. She took off her coat and casually handed it to the maid next to her. When her gaze swept across the living room, she saw Lin Yanran sitting on a single sofa flipping through documents.

He was wearing a beige knit sweater today, with the cuffs casually rolled up to his forearms, revealing his sleek wrists.

Hearing the noise, he looked up, raised an eyebrow, and said with his usual arrogance, "President, you've been dragging your feet on this club budget report for three days."

Yu Jiuyuan walked over, but instead of taking the documents from his hand, she leaned over and rested her head on the sofa armrest, her nose almost touching his ear.

She smelled the faint scent of Damask rose on him, mixed with the aroma of spring sunshine.

"What's the rush?" she said softly, with a lazy smile. "Anyway, you're living here now, you can't run away."

Lin Yanran's body stiffened almost imperceptibly, her Adam's apple bobbing for half a second before she turned her head away from her approach, her tone stiff: "Stop touching me, Yu Jiuyuan, there are other people here."

Xie Zhecheng was sitting on the sofa opposite, reading a financial newspaper. Hearing this, he didn't even lift his eyelids. Yuan Xu was fiddling with his petri dish next to the floor lamp, his gaze behind his glasses so focused that he seemed not to have heard anything.

Yu Jiuyuan straightened up and chuckled softly, "They're not outsiders."

She reached for the report, flipped through a couple of pages casually, then her fingertip stopped on a certain line as she looked at Lin Yanran: "You cut the funding for the observation equipment applied for by the Astronomy Club in half?"

Lin Yanran leaned back on the sofa, looking relaxed: "The binoculars they bought last year are still working. There's no need to replace them with new ones; it would be a waste."

"But last week at the student association exhibition, their equipment malfunctioned and almost hit a visitor."

Yu Jiuyuan placed the report on the coffee table and looked at his face. "Director Lin, when reviewing the budget, we can't just look at the books; we have to look at the actual needs."

She deliberately emphasized the word "doing things," with a hint of teasing.

Lin Yanran frowned as expected: "I'm just following the rules."

"Rules are rigid, but people are flexible."

Yu Jiuyuan suddenly bent down, reached out and pinched his chin, forcing him to look up at her. "Or... are you deliberately targeting the astronomy club? I remember you had a fight with their president on the basketball court last week?"

Her fingertips were slightly cool, but her strength was irresistible.

Lin Yanran's pupils contracted, and a barely perceptible blush rose to her ears, but her tone became even more aggressive: "Let go! Yu Jiuyuan, don't go too far!"

"Too much?"

She chuckled softly, her thumb gently stroking his jawline. "Compared to how you deliberately contradicted my proposal in front of everyone at the student council meeting last time, what's this little thing I did?"

Xie Zhecheng finally put down the newspaper and said calmly, "Yanran is just stating the facts."

Yuan Xu also pushed up her glasses: "Student Lin does have her own ideas about club management."

Yu Jiuyuan ignored them, her gaze fixed on Lin Yanran's face.

She saw the anger in his eyes, and a hint of deeply hidden unease.

She suddenly let go of his hand, straightened up, and straightened her skirt. Her tone returned to its usual gentleness: "I'll review the report tomorrow. You should go back and rest."

Lin Yanran suddenly stood up, glanced at her, and turned to walk towards the stairs, her steps quick as if she were fleeing.

After his figure disappeared around the corner on the second floor, Xie Zhecheng looked at Yu Jiuyuan and said, "You're becoming more and more patient with him."

Yu Jiuyuan picked up the report and slowly flipped through it: "When he first came to the student council, he didn't even know how to print documents, but now he can at least understand the budget sheet. He has made great progress."

Yuan Xu said softly, "He's just arrogant, actually..."

“I know.” Yu Jiuyuan interrupted him, a faint smile playing on her lips. “The more arrogant a person is, the more interesting it is to break through them, isn’t it?”

That evening, Yu Jiuyuan finished processing the last document in her study. When she looked up, she noticed that it was drizzling outside the window.

The spring rain was fine and dense, pattering softly against the windowpane.

She got up and left the study. As she passed Lin Yanran's room, she heard suppressed coughing coming from inside.

She knocked on the door, but no one answered.

Pushing open the door, I found Lin Yanran leaning against the headboard, her face pale, a towel on her forehead, and several empty medicine boxes scattered around her.

"What's wrong?" She walked over and reached out to touch his forehead; it was alarmingly hot.

Lin Yanran turned her head away from her hand, her voice hoarse: "It's none of your business."

"Why didn't you say you had a fever?" Yu Jiuyuan frowned, picked up the medicine box next to him and looked at it. "Did you take fever reducers? How long have you had them?"

"It started this afternoon." He turned his face away. "You can go now, I'm fine."

Yu Jiuyuan didn't move. Instead, she turned around and went to the bathroom, wrung out a warm towel, sat directly on the edge of the bed, and raised her hand to wipe his face.

Lin Yanran struggled for a moment, but couldn't bear to actually push her away, so she could only let her do as she pleased.

Her movements were very gentle, with a strange soothing power, and his tense body unconsciously relaxed a little.

"Why didn't you tell the maid?" she asked, her voice very soft.

"Troublesome," he muttered.

Yu Jiuyuan smiled and put down the towel: "Wait."

She turned and walked out of the room, returning shortly with a bowl of ginger soup and some new fever-reducing medicine. "Drink it," she said, handing the bowl to him.

Lin Yanran looked at the bowl of steaming ginger soup and frowned even more: "I don't want to drink this."

"Drinking this will help you recover faster," Yu Jiuyuan said firmly. "Or do you want me to feed you?"
