As the sweet fragrance of locust blossoms drifted in through the cracks in the French windows of Saint Sakura Academy, Yu Jiuyuan was checking the activity budget for the third quarter in the student council office.
As my fingertips traced the dense numbers on the tablet, my temples throbbed, and a blurry white light suddenly appeared before my eyes.
She instinctively pressed down on the edge of the table, her knuckles turning white.
"President?"
Rong Shenghan's voice came from the doorway, in his usual gentle and calm tone.
When Yu Jiuyuan looked up, he had already walked to the table, holding a glass of warm water, with fine water droplets condensing on the glass.
"You don't look well."
He placed the water glass beside her, his gaze falling on her slightly trembling fingertips, his tone devoid of emotion, "Didn't you have lunch again?"
Yu Jiuyuan picked up her water glass and took a sip. The warm water slid down her throat, and the dizziness subsided slightly.
She forced a smile, but found her facial muscles stiff: "There's a problem with the student council's expense report. I was just dealing with the finance department and lost track of time."
The phone on the table vibrated; it was a message from the housekeeper, reminding her that she would have a video conference at 3 p.m. with several directors of the Yu Group to confirm the personnel relocation plan for the overseas branch.
She glanced at the time; it was already 2:40.
"I'm going back now." She stood up, moving quickly, but then everything went black again, and she staggered back half a step.
Rong Shenghan reached out and supported her waist, the warmth of his palm penetrating through her thin shirt, carrying an undeniable force.
"I send you."
His tone was calm, but he didn't give her any room to refuse.
Yu Jiuyuan leaned against him for a few seconds to recover. When she smelled the cool ebony scent on him, the tension in her heart suddenly eased a little.
I've been so busy lately.
The student council elections are imminent, various activities need to be wrapped up, and new plans need to be reviewed.
The handover of power in the Yu family has entered a critical stage, and she has to personally review all matters, big and small. The documents she has signed alone could pile up into a small mountain.
Occasionally, they also have to deal with the few "guests" in the villa.
Xie Zhecheng would always deliver the club bylaws that needed to be signed to her room late at night.
Yuan Xu would carry an insulated box containing experimental samples and ask her to help analyze outliers in the data.
Lin Yanran would always remind her, in a tone that was both arrogant and aggrieved, when she was handling Yu's affairs, not to forget that the evaluation forms for student council members had not yet been approved.
She was like a spinning top, pulled by countless threads, with even a moment to catch her breath a luxury.
When the car stopped in front of the villa, Yu Jiuyuan realized that Xie Zhecheng's car was also there.
As I walked into the living room, I saw him sitting on the sofa with a document on his lap and a laptop next to him, displaying the organizational chart of the Yu Group on the screen.
Hearing footsteps, Xie Zhecheng looked up, his gaze lingering on her and Rong Shenghan's clasped hands before he spoke: "I've shortlisted three candidates for the head of Yu's European region. Take a look."
His tone remained indifferent, but he proactively pushed the documents towards her. In the past, he would never have overstepped his bounds and interfered in the Yu family's affairs.
Just as Yu Jiuyuan was about to answer, Yuan Xu came downstairs, carrying a thick stack of documents. Her eyes behind her glasses were a little bloodshot: "I've compiled the gene sequence analysis report you requested. There are a few mutation sites that I need you to confirm..."
Before he could finish speaking, Lin Yanran interrupted him.
He walked out of the restaurant with a sandwich in his hand. When he saw Yu Jiuyuan, he raised an eyebrow and said, "You've been dragging your feet on the student council's evaluation form for three days."
His tone still carried his usual arrogance, but he handed the sandwich in front of her, saying, "It's freshly made in the kitchen, with tuna filling."
Looking at the scene before her, Yu Jiuyuan suddenly felt it was somewhat absurd.
These people, who used to hate each other to the death, now seem to have made a pact to appear in front of her, each pushing more and more tasks onto her shoulders in their own way.
She leaned against Rong Shenghan's chest, closed her eyes briefly, and when she opened them again, the weariness from before was gone, leaving only her usual coldness.
"Sit down, everyone."
Her voice wasn't loud, but it carried an invisible pressure.
Xie Zhecheng put away the documents, Yuan Xu placed the materials on the coffee table, and Lin Yanran reluctantly stuffed the sandwich back into her mouth and found a single sofa to sit down.
Yu Jiuyuan walked to the main sofa and sat down. Rong Shenghan naturally sat down next to her and reached out to massage her temples.
She didn't dodge, but looked at the three people in front of her and slowly said, "From today onwards, let's divide the work."
Xie Zhecheng looked up, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes behind his glasses.
He was used to her doing everything herself and had never seen her offer to share the burden.
"Regarding student council matters," Yu Jiuyuan looked at Rong Shenghan, "please take care of things. Don't submit expense reports or evaluation forms to me anymore, just approve them directly."
Rong Shenghan paused his hand that was rubbing her temples, then replied with a "Okay".
“Yu’s documents,” she turned to Xie Zhecheng and pushed the candidate information for the European region head to him. “You can do a preliminary review for me, mark the risk points and the optimal solution. I only need to see the final result.”
Xie Zhecheng's brow twitched almost imperceptibly, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end he nodded: "Okay."
“Yuan Xu,” Yu Jiuyuan said, looking at the boy holding the documents, “you will help me process all the data in Yu’s Biotechnology sector, including progress reports from overseas laboratories.”
She paused, then added, "You don't need to explain the principles to me, I just want the conclusion."
Yuan Xu pushed up her glasses, a hint of excitement flashing in her eyes, which she quickly concealed, and replied in a low voice, "Mm."
