The wind carried warmth, brushing past the lush camphor tree branches of Saint Cherry Academy, and also blowing into the villa where Yu Jiuyuan usually lived.
At 6:30 a.m. sharp, Yu Jiuyuan's biological clock woke her up.
When she opened her eyes, the person beside her was still asleep. Long, thick eyelashes cast a small shadow under her eyes. The eyes that usually carried a hint of unpredictable smile were now closed, all their sharpness gone, leaving only a rare gentleness.
Yu Jiuyuan stared for a moment, her fingertips lightly tracing Rong Shenghan's jawline, which resulted in him unconsciously nuzzling against her neck, like a large dog seeking comfort.
She chuckled softly and carefully pulled herself out of his embrace.
As the blanket slipped off, it revealed similar rings on their ring fingers, gleaming subtly in the morning light.
After washing up and going downstairs, I found two people already seated in the restaurant.
Xie Zhecheng, dressed in a meticulously white shirt, was leisurely eating his breakfast. When he saw her come down, he simply raised his eyes and nodded as a greeting.
Yuan Xu was holding a tablet with a complex gene sequence map on the screen. He was eating a sandwich while staring at the screen with a furrowed brow. It wasn't until Yu Jiuyuan sat down next to him that he belatedly looked up and said, "Good morning."
"Good morning," Yu Jiuyuan said, taking the hot milk from the housekeeper. "Have you prepared the materials for today's student council meeting?"
“On your desk,” Xie Zhecheng began, his voice cold. “Also, Lin Yanran said he had family matters to attend to this morning, and he asked someone else to take over the student council’s patrol duties.”
Yu Jiuyuan hummed in agreement, unsurprised.
Although Lin Yanran has moved into a villa, his inherent arrogance remains. It is already commendable that he can complete the basic student council work on time. It is unrealistic to expect him to do everything personally.
As they were talking, footsteps came from the stairs, and Rong Shenghan came down in his pajamas, still sleepy-eyed, his hair slightly disheveled.
When he saw Yu Jiuyuan, his eyes lit up instantly. He walked straight to her and sat down, naturally resting his head on her shoulder: "Why didn't you wake me up when you woke up?"
"You're sleeping so soundly." Yu Jiuyuan turned her head and gently brushed the stray hairs from his forehead with her fingertips, her movements intimate and natural.
Xie Zhecheng paused for a moment, a barely perceptible flicker of emotion flashing in his eyes, before reverting to his usual cold indifference.
Yuan Xu didn't react much; his attention had already returned to the tablet, as if everything around him was irrelevant.
Such scenes have long been commonplace in villas.
Since Xie Zhecheng and the others reached a private consensus and tacitly accepted Rong Shenghan's position as "boss," the superficial peace has become increasingly stable.
They tacitly approved of Rong Shenghan's intimate relationship with Yu Jiuyuan, and also tacitly approved of her rule that she must return to the master bedroom at night.
Only occasionally, when Xie Zhecheng saw Rong Shenghan clinging to Yu Jiuyuan without any restraint, his brows would furrow slightly, while Lin Yanran would simply turn her head away with a cold expression.
But Yu Jiuyuan didn't care.
She had a precise grasp of everyone's bottom line.
Just like that night, she stayed with Yuan Xu in the lab until late at night, helping him record experimental data until his tense nerves completely relaxed and he fell asleep with a satisfied smile before she turned around and went back to the master bedroom.
Rong Shenghan was indeed still awake, leaning against the headboard and flipping through a book. The lamplight cast a faint shadow on his face, and the oppressive atmosphere around him almost solidified.
She didn't say much, but walked over, hugged him from behind, kissed the back of his neck, and kissed him all the way up until they were lingering together.
The close contact of their bodies and the warm breaths were the most effective comfort. Rong Shenghan's tense back gradually relaxed, and when he pressed her down on his body, the jealousy in his eyes had turned into a surging possessiveness.
Finally, he buried his face in her neck, panting, his voice hoarse and muffled: "Next time... don't stay so late."
"I know," Yu Jiuyuan smiled and kissed the corner of his lips, her fingertips tracing his sweaty back. "Isn't that why you're back?"
Only in front of Rong Shenghan would she show such almost indulgent patience.
Even she herself realized that, without her noticing, her favoritism towards Rong Shenghan had been quietly spreading like vines, becoming increasingly tighter and tighter.
Perhaps it was because he could always see through her cold exterior to her weariness, or perhaps it was because his seemingly gentle nature concealed his stubbornness and deep affection, which happened to strike the most hidden corner of her heart.
After breakfast, Yu Jiuyuan drove to school.
As soon as I entered the student union office, the secretary-general came over with a document: "President, this is a summary of the activities of each club last week, and... I just received a call from your old house, asking if you have time this afternoon, saying they would like to talk to you."
Yu Jiuyuan paused in signing: "What do you want to talk about?"
“He didn’t say anything specific,” the secretary-general thought for a moment and added, “but judging from his tone, it seems… he wanted to ask about you and Vice President Rong.”
Yu Jiuyuan raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything.
The people at the old house have always been arrogant and never bothered with her private affairs, only caring about whether she could protect the Yu family's business.
The reason she took the initiative to inquire about her relationship with Rong Shenghan was probably because she had heard about their official announcement and saw that Rong Shenghan had been inseparable from her recently, and even seemed to be getting involved in the Yu family's affairs. That's why she couldn't hold back anymore.
"Understood," she handed back the signed documents. "I'm not free this afternoon. I need to hand over new work arrangements to the student union and also deal with matters concerning the Yu family. Tell them to call me directly if they need anything."
The secretary-general acknowledged and withdrew. Yu Jiuyuan leaned back in her chair, her fingertips lightly tapping the table.
She understood what those people in the old house were thinking; they simply wanted to confirm whether Rong Shenghan was "obedient" enough and whether it would affect her control over the Yu family.
