Chapter 200 The Undercurrents Gradually Subside

The wind carried the increasingly intense heat of summer, causing the sycamore leaves of Saint Sakura Academy to rustle.

Yu Jiuyuan sat in front of the floor-to-ceiling window of the student council office, holding a handover checklist she had just prepared. When her fingertips traced the words "Transfer of authority as CEO of Yu Group", she paused for half a second.

"President, Vice President Rong has brought the student union's quarterly report." The voice from the secretariat interrupted her thoughts.

Yu Jiuyuan looked up and saw Rong Shenghan walking in with two cups of iced coffee. Sunlight fell on his light-colored shirt, creating a soft halo.

He placed one of the glasses beside her, leaned over to glance at the list on her desk, and a knowing look flashed in his eyes: "Busy with handover matters?"

“Hmm,” Yu Jiuyuan picked up her coffee and took a sip. The cool liquid slid down her throat, suppressing some of the fatigue from the past few days. “The old folks are keeping a close eye on things, so I have to get the paperwork done as quickly as possible.”

The "old folks" she was referring to were naturally the elders in the old house.

Ever since the last time I took Rong Shenghan back for that meal, the phone at the old house has been ringing non-stop. Sometimes it's asking about the progress of the Yu family's project, and sometimes it's subtly probing Rong Shenghan's financial situation. It's clear that they're not at ease with him.

Yu Jiuyuan was too lazy to deal with it, so she simply sped up the handover process.

She wanted everyone to understand that the future of the Yu family was in her hands, and that no one else had the right to interfere with her choices.

"Going back to the old house for dinner tonight?" Rong Shenghan suddenly asked, tapping her table lightly with his fingertips. "This morning, I heard from Zhang Ma that Great-Grandmother had some fresh seafood sent over."

Yu Jiuyuan raised an eyebrow: "You're better informed than I am."

"After all, I'm 'half a member of the Yu family' now, so I have to learn to care about family matters."

When Rong Shenghan smiles, the corners of his eyes curve into a beautiful arc, seemingly gentle, but with a hint of cunning hidden in his eyes.

This is something he's been saying a lot lately.

From the moment he first stepped into the old house, he seemed to have quickly found his place.

We will not cross the line, but we will never back down.

Every time he accompanied Yu Jiuyuan back home, he always managed to respond to the elders' overt or covert probing with the most appropriate attitude, thus maintaining Yu Jiuyuan's dignity while subtly solidifying his own presence.

Looking at the smile in his eyes, Yu Jiuyuan suddenly reached out and pinched his chin, leaning closer: "What? You're already starting to call yourself a 'Yu family member'?"

A warm breath brushed against Rong Shenghan's lips, causing his breath to catch in his throat slightly. He then grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer to him, his voice low and menacing: "Isn't that right?"

The distance between the two instantly closed, and the air was filled with the rich aroma of coffee and a hint of ambiguity.

Yu Jiuyuan looked into his eyes, which were so close to hers. In those eyes, which were always smiling, her image was clearly reflected, like a star that had been tempered and was shining brightly.

She chuckled softly, released her hand, and leaned back in her chair: "I guess you are. I'll go back tonight, but it'll be a little late, the student council has a short meeting."

"I'll wait for you." Rong Shenghan straightened up and casually tidied the stray hairs on her forehead, the action as natural as if he had done it a thousand times.

The afternoon student council meeting lasted longer than expected.

When Lin Yanran reported on the progress of the activity as a member, her tone was still somewhat nonchalant, but much more restrained than when she first joined.

After he finished his report, his gaze unconsciously drifted towards Yu Jiuyuan, only to meet her gaze. He immediately turned his head away as if burned, a faint blush creeping up his ears.

Yu Jiuyuan raised an eyebrow.

On the system panel, Lin Yanran's favorability rating jumped briefly at the end of the meeting before settling steadily at 91.

This arrogant young master of the Lin family ultimately couldn't withstand her occasional "care".

A few days ago, the student union exhibition he was in charge of had a problem, and she personally led a team to stay up all night to fix it. Afterwards, she didn't scold him coldly like she would scold others; she just patted him on the shoulder and said, "Be careful next time."

It was probably that light touch that finally caused the stone, which had been covered for so long, to crack open.

After the meeting, Lin Yanran dawdled as she packed her things. Only after almost everyone in the office had left did she walk up to Yu Jiuyuan and say stiffly, "Thanks for the afternoon."

"Hmm?" Yu Jiuyuan was tidying up her documents when she heard this and looked up.

"Regarding the joint exhibition," Lin Yanran's ears turned even redder, her eyes darting around, avoiding her gaze, "although it was mainly due to their incompetence, I..."

"I understand." Yu Jiuyuan interrupted him, putting the last document into the folder. "Next time, make sure the responsibilities are clearly defined. Don't take on everything yourself, and don't push everything onto others."

Her tone was calm, yet carried an undeniable certainty.

Lin Yanran was stunned for a moment. Watching her neat back as she got up, she suddenly felt that the awkward feeling in her heart had faded a lot, leaving only an indescribable feeling.

"I understand, Chairman," he replied softly, his voice less arrogant than before.

Yu Jiuyuan didn't turn around, she just waved and walked straight out of the office.

By the time she and Rong Shenghan arrived at the old house, it was already dusk.

The atmosphere at the dinner table was much more harmonious than last time. The great-grandmother did not press Rong Shenghan about his family background, but instead pulled him aside to ask about the student council.

I must have heard from my subordinates that Rong Shenghan managed the student council's work very well, relieving Yu Jiuyuan of a lot of pressure.

Rong Shenghan handled the situation with ease, occasionally subtly steer the conversation towards Yu Jiuyuan, praising how respected she was by her classmates at school and how efficient she was at the company.

Those words sounded like ordinary praise, but they struck a chord with the elders in the old house.
