Chapter 4 The Library's Test and the True Feelings Beneath the Mask

Yu Jiuyuan watched Xie Zhecheng's departing figure, feeling somewhat surprised. She had expected that after delivering the documents, they would at least chat for a few minutes, laying the groundwork for future contact. His hasty departure seemed deliberate.

"Thank you!" she suddenly said, her voice tinged with urgency, as if she had mustered up her courage.

Xie Zhecheng stopped and looked back at her.

Yu Jiuyuan lowered her head, her fingers nervously gripping the hem of her clothes, her voice barely a whisper: "Um... there's a physics group discussion tomorrow afternoon, and Professor Zhang said we need to form groups... I don't really understand these things, could you... could you be in my group?"

She raised her head, her eyes filled with pleading and unease, her innocent face brimming with dependence; anyone who saw her would feel a pang of sympathy.

This was a step she had planned carefully.

Xie Zhecheng is a physics genius, and group discussions are a piece of cake for him. She, on the other hand, exposed her weaknesses in physics during class that day, so her request was perfectly reasonable. Most importantly, this would create an opportunity for them to connect.

Xie Zhecheng looked into her moist, peach-blossom eyes and remained silent for a few seconds.

[Say yes! Say yes!] 007's voice kept flashing through my mind.

"Okay." In the end, he only uttered two words, then turned around and left without hesitation.

【!! I've agreed! Although it's only two words, this is the beginning of cooperation! Favorability... well, still 0, but it's improved!】 007 has learned to comfort himself.

Yu Jiuyuan watched his retreating figure disappear through the doorway, her shyness and unease vanishing instantly, replaced by a calm expression. She picked up the folder on the table, squeezing it tightly with her fingertips; the paper was sturdy, suggesting the information inside was very important.

Xie Zhecheng's purpose was clear: to exchange information for the Yu family's reciprocation. As for the group discussion? He probably just felt it was a matter of going with the flow and there was no need to refuse.

What a pure egoist. Yu Jiuyuan curled her lips, a hint of interest flashing in her eyes. People like this are actually easier to control; as long as you give them enough benefits, you don't have to worry about them not taking the bait.

She opened the folder, about to browse its contents, when a mocking voice suddenly rang out behind her:

"We're having such a pleasant chat, did I arrive at the wrong time?"

Yu Jiuyuan's body stiffened for a moment, then she quickly turned around, her face regaining that innocent and harmless smile, though a hint of wariness flashed deep in her eyes.

Rong Shenghan appeared behind her at some point, holding a thick book titled "History of Celestial Evolution," his hair gleaming softly in the setting sun.

He wore his usual smile, but his amber eyes seemed to hold starlight, so bright that they were unfathomable.

"Rong, what brings you here?" Yu Jiuyuan's voice carried just the right amount of surprise, as if she really hadn't expected to run into him here.

"I came to borrow a book." Rong Shenghan waved the book in her hand and sat down in the spot where Xie Zhecheng had just been sitting. She leaned forward to get closer to her. "I saw you downstairs and wanted to say hello, but then I saw Xie Zhecheng was here too... so I didn't want to bother you."

His tone was light, as if he were sharing something trivial, but his amber eyes were fixed on Yu Jiuyuan's face, as if confirming something.

Yu Jiuyuan's heart skipped a beat. How long had he been watching? Had he seen Xie Zhecheng give her the information?

She calmly closed the folder, pushed it to the corner of the table, and gave a shy smile: "It's not what you think. Xie just gave me some study materials. We...we have a physics group discussion scheduled for tomorrow."

Taking the initiative to explain is to avoid unnecessary suspicion and also to maintain one's "naive" persona.

"A physics group discussion?" Rong Shenghan raised an eyebrow, his smile deepening. "Xie Zhecheng is a well-known 'lone wolf,' so why did he agree to be in a group with you? Miss Yu must have quite the charm."

His tone was teasing, but his fingers unconsciously tapped the table, making a rhythmic, soft sound.

Yu Jiuyuan lowered her eyes and sighed, feigning distress: "I'm terrible at physics, so I had to shamelessly ask him for help. Actually... I'm also very embarrassed."

"What's there to be embarrassed about?" Rong Shenghan suddenly reached out and gently ruffled her hair, his gesture natural and affectionate. "You can ask me if you don't understand something. Although I'm not as good at physics as Xie Zhecheng, I'm more than capable of teaching you."

Warm fingertips ran through my hair, a touch that felt unfamiliar.

Yu Jiuyuan's body tensed instantly, but instead of dodging away like she had in the cafeteria during the day, she lowered her head slightly, revealing a section of her fair neck, and whispered, "Is it really okay? Won't it be too much trouble for you?"

Her submissiveness and dependence tickled people's hearts like feathers.

Rong Shenghan paused, a complex emotion flashing in his amber eyes, too fleeting to grasp.

He withdrew his hand, the softness of his hair still lingering on his fingertips, and his voice deepened: "No trouble at all. It's my honor to teach Miss Yu."

【!! Rong Shenghan touched your hair! Your favorability rating has definitely skyrocketed! At least 40!】007 shouted excitedly, 【The way he looks at you is completely different now! Host, give it your all!】

Yu Jiuyuan raised her head and gave Rong Shenghan a grateful yet shy smile, her eyes clear as water: "Thank you so much, Rong classmate."

Seeing her innocent and harmless appearance, Rong Shenghan's smile slowly faded. He picked up "The History of Celestial Evolution" from the table, stood up, and said, "It's getting late, let me take you back to your dorm."

"No need, I can manage on my own..."

“It’s getting dark, it’s not safe.” Rong Shenghan interrupted her, his tone firm and unyielding. “Consider it… a deposit for tutoring you in physics in advance.”
