Chapter 59 Undercurrents and Balance

The wind swirled the snowflakes, which pattered against the glass windows of the Saint Sakura Academy student council office, making a soft, rustling sound.

Yu Jiuyuan sat behind her desk, her fingertips tracing the end-of-term party plan. Her gaze paused for a moment on the line about "cross-departmental collaboration," and when she looked up, she met Rong Shenghan's coffee.

"I added three parts sugar, according to your preferred ratio." Rong Shenghan's fingertips brushed against the back of her hand, leaving a warm touch.

"Yuan Xu just called and said that the Biology Club wants to add a 'fluorescent butterfly dance' segment to the party and needs the student council to coordinate the venue."

Yu Jiuyuan took the coffee, the warmth of the cup spreading through her fingertips: "Have him give me the equipment parameters. The stage's load-bearing capacity and power supply need to be calculated in advance."

She turned to the next page of the proposal. "What about Xie Zhecheng? Has he finished reviewing the astronomy club's star projection plan?"

“I put it on your desk this morning.” Rong Shenghan’s gaze fell on her slender fingers, where she had scratched them last night, and there were still faint red marks. “He revised it seven times, saying that the angle of the star orbit must be accurate to 0.1 degrees.”

The system panel notification sound was very soft. When Yu Jiuyuan lowered her eyes, a barely perceptible smile appeared on the corner of her lips.

A perfectionist's obsession is sometimes their easiest weakness to exploit. She closed the proposal with a deft movement: "Where's Lin Yanran? I asked him to pick up the sample invitations for the party, why hasn't he returned yet?"

No sooner had he finished speaking than the office door was pushed open.

Lin Yanran walked in carrying a gold-embossed gift box. The collar of her black suit was slightly crooked, indicating that she had run all the way here: "Why are you rushing me? There was a problem with the gold-embossing paper from the Su family, which delayed us by half an hour."

He slammed the gift box on the table, the metal clasps clanging loudly.

The moment Yu Jiuyuan opened the gift box, Lin Yanran's ears turned slightly red. The corners of the invitation were printed with fine silver patterns, which he had had engraved based on the wing veins of the Aurora Butterfly. Although he complained, he remembered her saying last time that "ordinary styles are too monotonous".

Negative emotions continued to subside, while positive emotions sprouted like tender shoots breaking through the soil, displaying a tenacious growth force. Yu Jiuyuan paused for a moment as she picked up the invitation, then looked up with a gentle smile: "It looks better than I imagined. Thank you for your trouble, Director Lin."

Lin Yanran looked away, her voice stiff: "Just doing it on the spur of the moment." As she turned to leave, she was stopped by her.

"Remember to tie your student council tie properly." Yu Jiuyuan's fingertips gently brushed against his crooked collar, the movement as natural as if she were straightening her own sleeves.

"Don't let others say that the young master of the Lin family can't even learn basic manners."

The moment her fingertips brushed against her Adam's apple, Lin Yanran's breath hitched.

As he clenched his fists and rushed out of the office, the sound of him frantically tying his tie echoed down the corridor, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on but who was trying to remain calm.

In the astronomy club's observation room, Xie Zhecheng was using a laser rangefinder to calibrate the angle of the star projection.

Under his adjustments, the Orion Nebula on the screen gradually revealed a perfect spiral structure, and he stopped when he was satisfied, as the error was controlled within 0.05 degrees.

"President, the student council has delivered the program for the party." A member knocked on the door and came in, his gaze unconsciously drifting to his tie. It was a new one with a star trail pattern, perfectly matching the pen Yu Jiuyuan had given him last time.

"I heard... the president wore a beige knitted dress today, it would definitely match your tie perfectly."

Xie Zhecheng's fingertip paused on the rangefinder, and the nebula on the screen suddenly deviated slightly. He frowned as he adjusted the parameters, his movements tense to a barely perceptible degree, but his voice remained calm: "Put the flowchart on the table."

As the member put down the flowchart and turned to leave, he saw him pick up his phone, open the chat window with Yu Jiuyuan, and the last message was still "Star orbit parameters confirmed".

He typed and deleted, and finally only sent an "Mm," as if he were completing a rigorous formula problem.

The system panel's notification sounds mingled with the turning of the pages. Xie Zhecheng's gaze fell on the "duet dance segment" in the flowchart, and he suddenly recalled the night in Changbai Mountain, when she stepped on his shoes, humming an off-key tune and twirling around.

The snow that fell on her hair was like a handful of shattered diamonds, more dazzling than any star trails.

He picked up the laser rangefinder and recalibrated the angle of the star projection. This time, the error was accurate to 0.01 degrees.

In the greenhouse of the biology laboratory building, Yuan Xu was squatting in front of the incubator, applying fluorescent protective agent to the wing veins of the aurora butterfly.

When Yu Jiuyuan walked in, she saw half a ribbon sticking out of the pocket of his white coat. It was the ribbon she had left in the lounge last night, which he had kept like a treasure.

"Ah Yuan!" Yuan Xu looked up, her eyes shining brighter than the butterflies in the box. "Look at the new fluorescent agent I made! It can make them glow continuously in the dark for three hours!"

He held up a butterfly, its wing veins shimmering with a faint blue light in the shadows, like captured starlight. "At the party, I can have them spell your name!"

Yu Jiuyuan leaned closer to take a look, then gently tapped the butterfly wings with her fingertip: "Don't let them get too tired."

She took a small bottle out of her pocket. "This is nectar essence that I had someone bring back from Brazil. It's good for their wing veins."

Yuan Xu's eyes lit up instantly. She took the bottle with great care, as if she were holding a priceless treasure: "How did you know I was looking for this? I just mentioned it in my paper last week..."
