The quantum computing exhibition area on the west side of the exhibition hall was dimly lit, with a deep blue data stream flowing on the holographic screen, like a school of glowing fish swimming in the deep sea.
Yu Jiuyuan stood in front of a virtual control panel, her fingertips hovering in mid-air, looking at the code jumping on the virtual keyboard. She suddenly remembered that Rong Shenghan would sometimes sit in his study late at night, typing on a similar interface until dawn.
His profile at that time always carried a coldness that was completely different from his usual gentleness. His eyelashes cast dappled shadows in the blue light of the screen, as if he were waging a secret war unknown to anyone.
"What are you looking at?" Xie Zhecheng's voice came from beside him. The tablet in his hand was recording the device parameters. "The quantum entanglement stability of this simulator can reach 98.7%, which is top-notch in the civilian field."
Yu Jiuyuan snapped out of her thoughts and typed a series of commands on the virtual keyboard. The data stream on the screen instantly reorganized, forming a complex three-dimensional model: "The stability is good, but the anti-interference ability is too poor."
She pulled up the interference test data, and a glaring red fluctuation curve stretched across the center of the screen. "It will break down with even slightly stronger electromagnetic interference. It's all show and no substance."
Xie Zhecheng's eyes lit up.
He knew Yu Jiuyuan was capable, but he didn't expect her to even be involved in quantum computing. Those obscure parameters became simple and straightforward in her words, as if she were talking about the weather.
“You seem to know a lot about these things,” he couldn’t help but say.
“I learned a little from my family’s tech team before.” Yu Jiuyuan exited the interface, her tone as indifferent as if she were talking about something unimportant. “Just passing the time.”
This nonchalant attitude, however, made Lin Yanran inexplicably irritated.
He leaned against the display case next to him, watching Yu Jiuyuan and Xie Zhecheng discuss terms he couldn't understand, feeling like an outsider.
"What's so great about it? It's just fiddling with a few pieces of crappy code," he muttered under his breath, his voice low but just loud enough for the two of them to hear.
Yu Jiuyuan turned to look at him, a hint of a smile in her eyes: "If you're interested, Officer Lin, I can have someone from the technical department give you an introductory course."
"Who wants to learn this?" Lin Yanran turned her face away, her ears turning slightly red. "I just think that watching these cold, lifeless machines is not as good as going downstairs to watch robots dance."
"The robot dancing exhibit is in Section B. Do you need me to show you the way?" Xie Zhecheng pushed up his glasses, his tone carrying a barely perceptible hint of teasing.
"You!" Lin Yanran glared at him, but didn't say anything more.
He knew he lacked technical expertise and couldn't compare to a genius like Xie Zhecheng, who had spent his childhood immersed in the laboratory.
Yu Jiuyuan found the childish rivalry between the two somewhat amusing.
Beneath Xie Zhecheng's cold exterior lies a sharp tongue that is not easily noticed, while Lin Yanran's arrogance is wrapped in an awkwardness that makes her seem immature. They are a rare complementary pair.
“Let’s go check out the smart interactive exhibition area.” She turned and walked towards the exit. “There are robots there that can simulate emotional responses. Maybe they’ll suit Director Lin’s taste.”
Lin Yanran perked up immediately and quickly followed, asking, "Really? How intelligent can it be?"
“Go and see for yourself.” Yu Jiuyuan’s voice was light and cheerful, like she was teasing a curious cat.
Xie Zhecheng watched her retreating figure, his fingertips pausing on the tablet.
When she mentioned "the family's technical team" earlier, her eyes flickered for a moment, as if she was hiding something.
The Yu family's businesses are mainly concentrated in finance and real estate. When did they get involved in the high-tech field?
He opened his private database, retrieved information about the Yu family, and swiped quickly with his fingertips, but found no records related to the technology company.
Just how many secrets does this woman hold?
The smart interactive exhibition area was more lively than I expected.
A group of children were laughing and playing around a bear-shaped robot. The robot could make various expressions based on voice commands and even tell corny jokes, making the children laugh out loud.
"Is this what you call intelligence?" Lin Yanran frowned, looking disdainful. "It's like a toy."
“Don’t underestimate toys.” Yu Jiuyuan walked up to a humanoid robot, whose appearance was almost indistinguishable from a real person, and it was playing chess with an old man. “Look at this.”
She stopped in front of the robot, and a message immediately popped up on the screen: New user detected, analyzing emotional state...
A few seconds later, the robot looked up and gave her a gentle smile: "This young lady seems to have something on her mind. Would you like to talk?"
Lin Yanran scoffed, "They really know how to put on an act."
Yu Jiuyuan ignored him and just looked into the robot's eyes: "Do you think I have something on my mind?"
The robot's pupils contracted slightly, as if it were performing complex calculations: "Based on your micro-expressions and tone of voice, your current emotional state is 'mild anxiety,' which is most likely related to 'trust.'"
Yu Jiuyuan's eyes turned cold.
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Lin Yanran stepped forward, blocking Yu Jiuyuan's path. "What does a broken machine know?"
The robot seemed to be angered by his tone, and an angry emoticon popped up on the screen: "Please do not verbally attack me. I am conducting professional emotion analysis."
"Analyze your ass!" Lin Yanran reached out to press the robot's power button, but Xie Zhecheng stopped her.
"Don't be ridiculous." Xie Zhecheng's tone was serious. "These are exhibits at the exhibition. If you damage them, you'll have to pay for them."
"Can't I afford to pay for it?" Lin Yanran retorted, but still withdrew her hand.
Watching the two of them struggling, Yu Jiuyuan suddenly felt a little bored.
She turned and walked away, the robot still chattering behind her, analyzing her emotions. Those cold algorithms were trying to decipher the most complex human emotions, which was both laughable and pathetic.
