Chapter 94 The Dim Light of the Laboratory and the Desolation of the Villa

Is she his mother?

Yu Jiuyuan's heart skipped a beat.

She walked over quietly, picked up the blanket draped over the back of the chair, and wanted to cover him with it.

The moment his fingertips touched the blanket, Rong Shenghan suddenly opened his eyes.

His eyes held a dazed look, as if he had just woken up. When he saw her, he instantly snapped out of it, a flicker of panic crossing his eyes before being replaced by deep emotion.

"I'm back." His voice was thick with nasal congestion, clearly from being cold.

Yu Jiuyuan didn't speak, her hand holding the blanket frozen in mid-air.

The two looked at each other; the study was so quiet that they could hear each other breathing.

Moonlight streamed in through the window, casting flickering shadows on his face and making him appear exceptionally vulnerable.

This was the first time she had seen Rong Shenghan like this. There was no gentle smile, no hidden scheming, only undisguised exhaustion and... a hint of barely perceptible pleading.

Yu Jiuyuan opened the door and walked out without looking back.

The moment she closed the door, she heard a suppressed cough behind her.

She paused for a moment, but ultimately did not turn around.

Back in her bedroom, Yu Jiuyuan leaned against the door, her chest heaving. She had almost given in to temptation.

I almost forgave his concealment, and I almost believed the vulnerability in his eyes.

But Xie Zhecheng's words echoed in her ears: any form of concealment is a betrayal of trust.

Rong Shenghan, do you want to win back my trust?

Can.

But you have to pay the price.

She walked to the window and drew back the curtains.

The study light was still on, and Rong Shenghan remained slumped over the desk, motionless, like an abandoned statue.

Yu Jiuyuan looked at that lonely figure, her eyes devoid of any emotion.

The night is still long.

This silent battle has only just begun.

She, on the other hand, had the patience to play along with him.
