The villa's smart curtains slid open precisely at seven in the morning, letting in pale golden sunlight as Yu Jiuyuan nestled in Rong Shenghan's arms, flipping through a collection of papers on the ethics of artificial intelligence.
The man's arm was around her waist, his breath gently brushing against the top of her head, carrying a lazy, warm feeling like a hangover.
"Why didn't you call me when you woke up?" Rong Shenghan's voice was hoarse from just opening his eyes, and his fingertips gently caressed her waist, as if checking the temperature of the person in his arms.
Yu Jiuyuan turned a page, her fingertip tracing the words "emotional simulation algorithm": "Seeing how soundly you're sleeping."
She turned her head to look at him. The morning light fell on the open collar of his robe, and she could clearly see the pale pink bite mark on his collarbone, a mark she had deliberately left last night. "Besides," she said, "the primary function of a bed warmer is to provide warmth, isn't it?"
Rong Shenghan chuckled softly, flipped over and pinned her beneath him, his nose brushing against the crook of her neck: "Now it's time to fulfill the second duty."
His kiss landed, aggressive and irresistible, but slowed abruptly when it touched the corner of her lips, turning into delicate, light pecks. "For example, making breakfast for the young lady."
Yu Jiuyuan was amused by him and reached out to push his shoulder: "There are ingredients prepared by the aunt in the kitchen, what can you make?"
"Fried egg." Rong Shenghan said frankly, but his fingertips were sneaking into her nightgown. "I guarantee it will be a perfect sunny-side-up egg, like Xie Zhecheng's, with the yolk set perfectly."
Yu Jiuyuan paused when Xie Zhecheng was mentioned.
She recalled the electronic invitation to the AI exhibition she received yesterday. Xie Zhecheng had specially added a map of the exhibition area and marked the key booths with different colors. His obsessive-compulsive attention to detail revealed his thoughtfulness.
"He seems to have a lot of free time." She snorted softly, her tone devoid of emotion.
Rong Shenghan had already gotten up and put on his bathrobe. Hearing this, he turned to look at her, a hint of amusement flashing in his eyes: "Jealous?"
"I'm jealous of him?" Yu Jiuyuan raised an eyebrow, casually tossing the collection of papers onto the bedside table. "Rong Shenghan, have you forgotten who's in charge?"
Her eyes were clear and bright, carrying the absolute confidence of someone in a superior position, as if she were stating something perfectly natural.
Looking at her like this, Rong Shenghan suddenly felt his throat tighten. He liked her just the way she was, innocent as a lamb on the surface, but with an ambition to tame everything hidden in her bones.
“Yes, my dear lady.” He bent down and kissed her forehead. “Then I’ll go make the sunny-side-up eggs. You can get up slowly.”
After Rong Shenghan entered the kitchen, Yu Jiuyuan slowly sat up.
The silk nightgown slipped off her shoulders, revealing large expanses of fair skin covered with marks of varying shades, proof of last night's indulgence.
She turned around in front of the full-length mirror, her fingertips tracing the red mark on her side, a faint smile playing on her lips.
The system panel appeared in my mind. Rong Shenghan's favorability rating was still steadily at 100, but his emotional fluctuations had increased by 5 points compared to yesterday.
It seems that deliberately leaving fingernail marks on his back last night had a better effect than expected.
People who are hard to understand are often most susceptible to straightforward possessiveness.
She changed into a champagne-colored turtleneck cashmere sweater, paired with wide-leg pants in the same color scheme, and smelled the aroma of fried eggs as soon as she stepped out of the bedroom.
Rong Shenghan, wearing her pink apron, stood in front of the stove, carefully flipping the eggs in the pan with a spatula. Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window and fell on him, giving him a gentle, homely air.
"Do you need any help?" Yu Jiuyuan leaned against the door frame, watching his slightly clumsy movements.
"No need." Rong Shenghan didn't turn his head, but his tone was a little nervous. "It'll be ready soon."
In the end, what was served were two bowls of oatmeal porridge with ready-made sandwiches.
The sunny-side-up egg, which he had touted as something extraordinary, had its yolk runny all over the plate, and its edges were burnt and brittle.
"It seems that perfectionism isn't something everyone can learn," Yu Jiuyuan said, scooping up a spoonful of oatmeal porridge with a teasing tone.
Rong Shenghan wasn't annoyed. He picked up the failed fried egg and put it in his mouth, his brows furrowing slightly as he chewed. "Indeed." He looked up at her, his eyes serious. "But what makes me better than Xie Zhecheng is that I'm willing to learn for you."
These words are both straightforward and touching.
When Yu Jiuyuan looked up, she met his smiling eyes, in which her image was clearly reflected, like a sea that belonged only to her.
She suddenly remembered when he first transferred to Saint Sakura, wearing a neatly pressed white shirt, smiling gently and harmlessly at a group of old members who were making things difficult for him, while his fingers casually twirled a pen under the table, a gesture of control.
She knew then that this man was no ordinary person.
"Whether I can learn it or not is another matter." Yu Jiuyuan looked away, took a sip of porridge, and said, "Are you sure you don't want to go to the AI exhibition next Saturday?"
"I'm sure." Rong Shenghan wiped his mouth. "I have some personal matters to attend to that day."
"Is it related to the Su family?" Yu Jiuyuan asked casually, but her eyes were fixed on his expression.
Rong Shenghan paused almost imperceptibly for half a second, then smiled and shook his head: "It's just a family matter. Why, Miss, are you so concerned about me?"
“I’m just afraid my bed warmer will run away.” Yu Jiuyuan put down her spoon, picked up a napkin and wiped her lips. “After all, it’s not easy to find someone as compatible as you.”
Her tone was calm, yet it felt like a pebble dropped into his heart.
Looking at her calm profile, Rong Shenghan suddenly felt that those thoughts he had deliberately concealed were like transparent glass in front of her.
This woman is too perceptive and knows too well how to manipulate people's hearts.
“It won’t run away,” he suddenly said, his voice low. “At least not until the young lady gets tired of it.”
Yu Jiuyuan finally looked up, and their eyes met in mid-air, as if an electric current had passed through them.
