Gu Yanqing gripped the armrests of the wheelchair tightly with both hands, his knuckles turning a ghastly white from the excessive force.
We were silent for a few seconds. Just as I went inside and was about to close the door, he asked in a cool tone, "Have you met General Su? Did he approve of you two being together?"
I turned around, one hand on the door as I prepared to close it, then smiled slightly: "I'll visit you in a couple of days, this weekend."
Before I finished speaking, I closed the door, shutting out his world.
So annoying.
Perhaps Su Shenglin is right; we can't stay here anymore, we need to move again.
But I don't want to move into his luxurious villa, so it seems I'll have to wait until after the New Year to go look at houses.
Ideally, I'd like to buy a small apartment that comes fully furnished, clean it up, and move in immediately.
Moreover, I absolutely cannot let these shady people know about my new home, so that I can have a peaceful home.
I stood behind the door and looked out through the peephole. I saw Gu Yanqing remain silent for a while, looking bored, before turning his wheelchair around and entering the elevator.
I relaxed and turned back to the sofa.
Gu Yanqing asked General Su what he meant.
From what he said, it seemed like he thought Grandpa Su wouldn't accept me.
I pondered for a moment, but couldn't figure it out, so I simply put it aside, washed up, and went to sleep.
————
The next morning.
Su Shenglin brought me breakfast again and came downstairs to pick me up.
We went to the Maserati brand store.
The president of the entire Greater China region received us and enthusiastically introduced the various models.
I don't know much about cars. I only have some requirements for the model and interior. As for the mechanical and functional aspects, Su Shenglin will handle those.
Before this was over, Little Cherry called.
"Sister Yan, Ms. Tang is looking for you."
I said calmly, "Ignore her. Just say I have something to do today and won't be going back to the company. Let her leave."
"But she won't leave and keeps sitting in your office. Can I ask the security guards to kick her out?"
"No need, let her sit down then." I was afraid that even the security guards wouldn't be a match for Tang Xiu'e, and if things escalated, it would affect the company's normal operations.
"Okay..." Little Cherry sighed and hung up the phone.
I didn't take it too seriously. Tang Xiu'e only asked me for money, nothing else.
I won't give her money, otherwise it will just go on forever.
I turned around, clutching my phone, only to find myself running into an acquaintance—no, an enemy!
Xu Qianning was arm in arm with an elderly woman. The two looked quite similar, and she was probably her mother.
Beside them were two car salesmen in suits, chatting enthusiastically with them.
Looks like they're here to buy a car too.
I just didn't expect it to be such a coincidence.
"Jiang Wan?" Xu Qianning was also surprised to see me.
An older man beside her asked, "Your friend?"
Xu Qianning leaned over and whispered something in my ear, and the rich woman's gaze towards me immediately changed.
"She's just okay looking, nothing special." This blunt remark reveals that even a wealthy woman like her lacks manners.
I chuckled and replied casually, "It's a pity that some people even have to fake being 'good-looking,' so they're nothing special."
"You—" Xu Qianning's eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
"Why are you being so fierce? I didn't say anything to you unless you're trying to take it personally."
After giving her a blunt rebuke, I prepared to walk away.
Who knew she would be so wicked as to suddenly stick her foot out when I walked up to her.
My heart skipped a beat, and I just thought, are all socialites and ladies these days so shameless?
At the same time, he didn't hesitate to kick it directly.
"Ah!" Xu Qianning cried out in pain, bent over, and held her calf with one hand.
"Oh, I'm sorry... I was just walking along when I suddenly tripped over something." I apologized immediately, very sincerely, and even reached out to help Xu Qianning up.
"Don't touch me!" Xu Qianning shouted, her face flushed with pain.
It's not that she's afraid of pain; the main reason is that I was wearing a pair of genuine leather boots today, and the toe and sole were very hard.
She was wearing a long dress and had delicate skin; being hit like that must have been excruciatingly painful.
"Jiang Wan, what are you so smug about! Your family has been destroyed, and you're still so arrogant. Do you think you can rest easy just because you've latched onto the Su family?"
I stopped, my face cold, and looked at her. Before I could speak, a familiar voice came from behind me: "Wanwan, what's wrong?"
Xu Qianning suddenly looked up and saw Su Shenglin walking towards us. Her expression changed from surprise to panic.
"Brother Shenglin, what are you doing here?" She asked, then realized what was going on and added, "You're... accompanying her to buy a car."
Su Shenglin walked up to me and stopped, but his gaze didn't really look at Xu Qianning. Instead, it fell on the wealthy woman: "Hello, Madam Xu."
Madam Xu...
It really was Xu Qianning's mother.
No wonder their aggressive and overbearing demeanor is exactly the same.
However, the fact that Su Shenglin addressed "Madam Xu" so formally indicates that their relationship was not close.
If they're not close, where did Xu Qianning's use of "Brother Shenglin" come from?
"Greetings, Young Master Su." Madam Xu nodded to Su Shenglin, her tone polite and respectful.
But the next second, her gaze shifted to me, and she said very rudely, "Is this Miss Jiang a friend of Young Master Su? This kind of girl from a humble background, with no manners, is worlds apart from the Su family. Old Master Su has always—"
“Mrs. Xu, Jiang Wan is my girlfriend. She has no relation to you whatsoever. It’s not your place to lecture her.”
Su Shenglin maintained a gentle expression, but directly interrupted Madam Xu's words, giving her a serious reminder.
