I figured if I can't afford to offend them, I should at least avoid them. In such a large group of people, I really shouldn't cause a scene and embarrass myself.
However, what's meant to happen can't be avoided.
Gu Yutian walked straight towards me and spoke first: "Jiang Wan, why are you hiding? You almost became my sister-in-law, and now you don't even say hello when we meet?"
Her tone was aggressive and loud; she was clearly there to cause trouble.
Just as the band finished a song and the room was quiet, these words were clearly heard by everyone.
The people around were drawn to the scene and all looked over.
"Who are you? Where did you come from..." Chen Muxi was not intimidated at all and was about to retort.
But I stopped them.
"Xixi, I'll handle this." I turned to her and whispered, shielding her behind me.
Gu Yutian was clearly here to retaliate against me, and I was afraid that Chen Muxi would rush in front of me and get caught in the crossfire.
"Jiang Wan, don't be afraid of her, we'll all back you up!" Chen Muxi came up behind me and deliberately emphasized these words loudly.
I responded with a grateful smile.
Turning to Gu Yutian, I said calmly and gently, "Weren't you resting and recuperating recently? Have you recovered?"
I was just trying to be helpful by reminding her that she was going through a difficult time and shouldn't cause trouble, as it would only hurt her and be a losing proposition.
But she clearly misunderstood, and her first words were sarcastic: "Jiang Wan, what do you mean by bringing this up? Are you trying to tell everyone that I had a miscarriage or abortion?"
"Wow……"
"Whoa—"
The surrounding crowd immediately became agitated and began whispering among themselves.
"It seems the rumors were true; she is indeed pregnant, and I heard she's carrying..."
"I thought I wouldn't be this unlucky."
I frowned and looked at Gu Yutian, not understanding why she would do something so self-destructive.
"Jiang Wan, you ruined my life. How are you going to compensate me?" Ignoring the surrounding comments, Gu Yutian turned her anger directly on me.
My heart sank, and I thought to myself that today was absolutely the worst day ever.
They fight with the Jiang family during the day and with the Gu family at night.
These two families are like ghosts haunting me, constantly haunting me.
If I had known this would happen, I shouldn't have agreed to come here and join in the fun with Su Shenglin.
"Gu Yutian, you ruined your own life. Don't try to shift the blame and find fault with others."
I solemnly reminded her, glancing around, and said, "Everyone here tonight is a prominent figure. Even if you don't care about your own reputation, think about the reputation of your Gu family and think twice before you act."
"Ha, you're pretending to be kind! You just want our Gu family's reputation to be ruined, don't you?" Gu Yutian once again misunderstood my well-intentioned reminder.
I sighed helplessly, not wanting to respond.
But she gradually got more worked up and started yelling like a shrew: "Do you all know who this woman is? She's Jiang Wan. She sent her own father to prison, got a divorce from my brother, made my brother's old illness relapse, and even framed me, causing me to be raped and ruining my life!"
“Now my brother is hospitalized, I had an abortion, and her own father was released on medical parole from prison, but she won’t even pay for his medical treatment—we’ve been harmed so badly by her, yet she’s climbed up to the powerful Su family and is living a glamorous life here! Tell me, doesn’t this woman deserve to die?”
I stared at it coldly, without saying a word to interrupt.
Since these issues have already been exposed online several times and are common knowledge, there's no harm in "reporting" them again.
But to my surprise, there were voices in the crowd who spoke up for me: "Then why don't you mention that your brother cheated on her first, that you drugged her first, and that the entire Jiang family bullied her?"
"Besides, the reason President Jiang went to jail was because he broke the law, not because Jiang Wan had the ability to put him in there!"
"Miss Gu, stop spreading rumors here. Young Master Su isn't stupid. If Jiang Wan were really as despicable as you say, would he have taken a liking to her? So many of you ganged up on her and still have the nerve to cry foul!"
Gu Yutian probably never dreamed that so many people would support her.
She froze, her face flushed, her eyes filled with panic and helplessness. "What do you know! My brother has the heart of a Bodhisattva! He didn't intend to abandon Jiang Wan; it was just a temporary measure!"
"I didn't mean to hurt her! She and my brother have been together for so many years and nothing has happened. I was thinking that if they became a real couple, she wouldn't make a fuss about divorce anymore! They say it's better to tear down ten temples than to break up one marriage. What did I do wrong?" Gu Yutian was still making excuses for herself.
I put a hand to my forehead, unable to tell for a moment whether Miss Gu was an enemy or an ally.
Isn't she saying all this to raise my social standing?
Sure enough, before she finished speaking, the crowd started talking again.
"My God... More than six years, Jiang Wan is still a virgin? No wonder Young Master Su is so fond of her..."
"Young Master Su has struck gold!"
I was extremely embarrassed and couldn't bear to have such a private matter discussed in court, so I had to speak up to interrupt the surrounding noise.
"Gu Yutian, what exactly do you want? Just say it!"
She overheard the discussion and realized that her words had not only failed to smear me, but had inadvertently helped me establish a "chastity arch," which made her even more furious.
Hearing my question, she turned to look at me in a panic, her eyes trembling violently, her expression extremely sinister as she gritted her teeth: "Jiang Wan—I'm going to ruin you! Ruin your life!"
She suddenly roared, reached into her clothes, pulled out a bottle, uncapped it, and splashed it at me!
