Chapter 151 The Shura Field of Meeting the Parents

I was startled and subconsciously looked at Su Shenglin.

"Grandpa, Jiang..." Su Shenglin was about to speak when the old man interrupted him, "I'm just having a casual chat with Miss Jiang. What's the rush? Miss Jiang is your savior, after all. What can I do to her?"

Although Mr. Su was kind to me, I already understood what was going on when he kept referring to me as Miss Jiang.

—I failed this test.

The old man meant that gratitude is gratitude, and the truth is the truth.

The truth is, I come from the Jiang family, a family with a long history of misdeeds, and I am not worthy of being associated with the Su family.

Although it wasn't said explicitly, I already understand it clearly.

"Yes, my father made some mistakes in business and was originally imprisoned, but recently he applied for medical parole due to health problems."

I'm telling the truth, and I'm not hiding anything.

It can't be hidden.

Mr. Su nodded: "I heard that you were the one who betrayed your own family to report them?"

"Yes."

The old man's eyes showed admiration. "In this respect, you are exactly the same as when you were a child: brave and persevering."

"Thank you for the compliment, Grandpa."

"Sigh..." The old man suddenly sighed, his gaze becoming somewhat wistful, "It's good that Sheng Lin was able to find you and repay this kindness..."

What does that mean?

Are you saying that Su Shenglin is dating me to repay the life-saving grace he received back then?

I looked at the man beside me, and Su Shenglin looked at me as well. Then he spoke again: "Grandpa, I am with Jiang Wan because I like her. It has nothing to do with the favor I received back then. Of course, it was because she saved me that I met her, but I am with her not to repay the favor."

I felt very grateful and couldn't help but stare intently at him.

Regardless of how things end up between us, I am deeply moved that he defended me and our relationship in front of our elders, and I do not regret having been with him.

Mr. Su nodded, then picked up his teacup again. "I understand what you mean. When you're young and full of vigor, you should experience everything, meet a girl you like, and truly savor the taste of love. That way, you'll settle down after marriage—don't you think so, Miss Jiang?"

My heart skipped a beat, and my face felt a dense, needle-like pain.

The old man's words couldn't be clearer.

It means that when you're in a relationship, you can find someone you like and satisfy your own desires and wishes.

But if you get married, you have to accept your family's arrangements.

"Yes, Grandpa," I could only agree with a smile.

Su Shenglin suddenly stood up: "Grandpa, the reason I brought Jiang Wan back today is that I want to marry her and be with her. As you know, I've waited for her for several years, and I originally thought I had no chance, but I didn't expect..."

“Shenglin, you’re still young, your career is just starting out, why are you in such a hurry to get married?” Mr. Su interrupted Su Shenglin.

"Grandpa, I'm almost there—"

Su Shenglin was eager to win me over, and my heart tightened. I quickly got up, grabbed his arm, and shook my head slightly at him.

The old man is quite old and cannot withstand any stimulation.

But Su Shenglin didn't listen to me. He pulled down the hand that was holding his arm and clenched it tightly in his palm.

It was as if he was deliberately showing Mr. Su his determination to be with me.

I tried to twist it a few times with all my might, but I couldn't break free.

Mr. Su, with his sharp eyes, stared at his grandson holding my hand, his expression unreadable: “There’s a reason why I told you to focus on your career first. Look at your older brother, he’s two years older than you, and he’s been serving the country wholeheartedly in the military all these years, rarely even coming home to visit his family. I understand that you’re out there, surrounded by temptations and distractions, but let’s not talk about marriage for now.”

"Grandpa, my brother did that because—"

Su Shenglin was about to argue when I grabbed his hand and said first, "Grandpa is right. Men should indeed prioritize their careers, especially as descendants of the Su family. They should not let romantic feelings interfere with important matters."

Mr. Su nodded in satisfaction: "Miss Jiang is very sensible, and Sheng Lin has good taste."

I smiled bitterly to myself.

This "general outline" forced me to recognize it.

However, I didn't plan to get married again so soon, and Mr. Su's attitude actually relieved some of the pressure on me.

For me, it's actually a good thing.

My words eased the tension somewhat.

Su Shenglin and I went back and sat down again.

A person entered the courtyard. Judging from his clothes, appearance, and demeanor, he must be someone who works specifically for the old gentleman.

"Mr. Su, Mr. Xu and Miss Xu have arrived."

I was startled. Mr. Xu? Miss Xu?

Could it be Xu Qianning?

What a coincidence!

"Let them in." Old Mr. Su raised his hand, his expression clearly different, as if he was expecting a welcome.

I looked at Su Shenglin, my expression becoming even more complicated.

He remained remarkably calm and said in a low voice, "Don't worry, it's alright. Let's sit for a while longer and then head to the main house; lunch is almost here."

Before she finished speaking, Xu Qianning, arm in arm with an elderly man, stepped into the courtyard and quickly entered the living room.

I remember Su Shenglin saying that Mr. Xu was Mr. Su's subordinate and had just retired this year.

Compared to Mr. Su, Mr. Xu looked much younger and more robust. He was very thin, with a straight back, and clearly came from a military background.

Although I already knew about this, I was still somewhat surprised.

When I was in college, I heard that Xu Qianning came from a very good family.

Every weekend and holiday, a driver and a nanny would come to pick her up and drop her off, treating her with utmost respect, just like in the movies.

At the time, I just thought she was from a wealthy family and nothing special.

After all, I know a lot of wealthy people, such as Li Yunwei, Song Ci, and the Gu family, who are all from wealthy families.
