The struggles between women are never easy to determine who is right and who is wrong.
So even the venerable Mr. Su, with his profound knowledge of Taoism, didn't interrupt at this moment, but simply drank his tea quietly.
Su Shenglin turned to look at me, his deep, dark eyes hiding a hint of a smile. I glanced at him and felt inexplicably uncomfortable.
Still laughing! Are you happy to see us fighting over him?
If I had known that the Su family could be connected with Xu Qianning, I wouldn't have agreed to be his girlfriend in the first place.
My life was already chaotic enough, and now it's even more chaotic.
While we younger folks remained silent, the two elderly gentlemen broke the awkward silence by starting a conversation about something else.
Later, my phone rang. I took it out and saw that it was Yang Qianmu calling. I guessed it was about work, so I had to get up and excuse myself to go outside to answer the call.
Yang Qianmu and I discussed some matters related to the fashion show on the phone for seven or eight minutes.
After the call ended, I turned around and saw Su Shenglin walking towards me.
"We're about to head to the main house for dinner. Miss Xu, you'll be with us, while the two gentlemen will be dining in the courtyard." He stepped forward, took my hand, and whispered his instructions.
I gave him a meaningful look, then saw Xu Qianning coming out and asked directly, "Grandpa Su, are you trying to set up you and Xu Qianning?"
Su Shenglin's expression clearly showed a slight surprise.
"The old man's meaning is very clear: he doesn't object to you dating me, but after a few years when the feelings fade, you have to follow your family's arrangements, cut off all other relationships, and focus on accepting the marriage arrangements your family has made."
I'll make my point even clearer.
"That's not true. I'll arrange my own marriage," Su Shenglin stated decisively.
I smiled and said, "There's a saying that goes, 'It's not about forever, it's about having it once'—if that day ever comes, I'll wish you well, really—hiss...ah!"
Before I could finish speaking, he suddenly raised his hand and gave me a sharp rap on the forehead.
"Blessings my foot! If you're not marrying someone you love, all the blessings are just irony." He said through gritted teeth, feigning anger.
Before she finished speaking, Xu Qianning walked up to us.
She looked at Su Shenglin, ignoring the flirtatious scene between us just now, and said with a smile, "Brother Shenglin, let's go eat. I haven't visited your aunt yet."
Su Shenglin followed her words and said, "Then you go first, I'll take Jiang Wan to say hello to the old man."
As she spoke, she took my hand and led me back.
I felt a surge of pleasure as I watched Xu Qianning's face collapse instantly.
To be honest, given her proud, peacock-like nature, it's quite remarkable that she endured this insult in order to pursue the man she liked.
If it were me, I couldn't do this.
It takes a strong mentality and a thick skin to heal oneself time and time again after repeated setbacks.
This kind of person is admirable.
"Aren't you afraid that if you treat her like that, she'll turn around and complain to the elders again?"
“I treated her with utmost courtesy and was not impolite in the slightest. How could she feel wronged?” Su Shenglin retorted confidently.
I smiled and didn't say anything. It seemed true; he was always very tactful and diplomatic in his dealings with people, and there was nothing wrong with him.
She only reveals her true colors when she encounters a rival in love.
We went to say goodbye to the two old gentlemen. In front of me, Mr. Su reminded Su Shenglin to take good care of Xu Qianning.
The level of importance attached to this is made no attempt to hide.
I pretended not to hear and politely smiled as I left the courtyard.
Xu Qianning didn't wait outside; she seemed to know better than to wait outside and went to the main house first.
When Su Shenglin and I returned, before we even entered the living room, we heard her chatting happily with Mrs. Su, the two of them laughing and talking.
Chen Muxi was pacing around the door when she saw us and immediately ran over.
"This Xu Qianning is so annoying, she's too good at flattering people, I hate her so much." Chen Muxi was also straightforward and complained right away.
I smiled, glanced at Su Shenglin, and said to her, "You'll have to get used to it. Maybe she'll be your sister-in-law in the future."
Before I could finish speaking, Su Shenglin raised his hand again and bent his knuckles.
Luckily, I reacted quickly and immediately covered my head, saying, "Don't hit me anymore, it hurts!"
"Then why are you talking nonsense!" Su Shenglin said angrily.
I sighed, "To be honest, elders love this kind of likable personality the most."
But I simply can't do that.
Just like Li Qinglan once said, she said I'm good in every way, except that I have a fiery temper, unlike Jiang Yi, who has a sweet tongue and knows how to coax people.
Lunch was very plentiful.
Chef Lin's skills are impeccable, and all the dishes are ones I like, which touched me quite a bit. It made me think that Mrs. Su might not be so hostile towards me.
However, Xu Qianning was too good at handling things during the meal. She always brought up the topics and could even hit the mark with Madam Su's preferences. So, throughout the whole meal, it was obvious that Madam Su liked her more.
Su Shenglin remained uninvolved, only focusing on piling food onto my plate. By the end, I was so full that I had to stop his hand.
"I'm full, don't put any more food on my plate, otherwise I won't be able to eat it and it will be a waste." I stopped his hand and politely declined in a low voice.
"You haven't eaten much, eat some more," Su Shenglin urged.
"No need, I'm really full." I moved the bowl away, my eyes almost pleading with him.
Unexpectedly, Xu Qianning suddenly spoke up: "Brother Shenglin, I also like to eat that." As she spoke, she held out her bowl and looked at Su Shenglin with a smile.
I was startled, thinking to myself, "Is there such a thing?"
With Miss Xu's background, what kind of delicacies hasn't she eaten?
Su Shenglin probably didn't expect this turn of events; his chopsticks froze, and he didn't respond for a moment.
Although it was served with serving chopsticks, there was no issue of hygiene.
