Chapter 186 Treated as an Honored Guest

This kind of "both politically correct and professionally competent" approach seems quite suitable for Su Shenglin.

“That’s something your brother would say.” I nodded, suppressing a smile.

Chen Muxi also laughed, then sighed while resting her chin on her hand, "In short, my brother is like a monk in a temple, pure and without desires. He works every day, exercises, comes home on time, and rarely socializes."

The smile on my face gradually faded.

As Chen Muxi described him, I seemed to see Su Shenglin as an ascetic monk.

Why did he do this? Was he punishing himself or those who broke us up?

To be honest, the Su family didn't do anything excessive to me at the time.

The Gu family interfered, my father from the Jiang family was imprisoned, and later Jiang Hao was also implicated in a spy case.

Any one of these items alone could make it impossible for me to continue my relationship with him.

Moreover, all three things happened at the same time.

Even if Madam Su hadn't spoken to me, I would have stayed far away from him to protect him.

It was completely unnecessary for him to abuse his family by abusing himself.

Chen Muxi looked at me and asked cautiously, "Jiang Wan, are you crying?"

"No." I smiled and was about to ask further when Butler Zhou suddenly came over. "Miss Jiang, please come to the courtyard."

"The courtyard? Over at Mr. Su's place?" I asked in surprise.

Chen Muxi stood up. "Let's go, I'll go with you. It'll be good to see my little nephew. Don't worry, Grandpa is weak right now and can't do anything to you. Maybe the old man just wants to thank you for leaving an heir for the Su family. Otherwise, relying on my brother would be hopeless."

I was dragged by Chen Muxi without any chance to refuse, and I was pulled into the courtyard.

Su Shenglin stood at the door, and when he saw me coming, he waved and said, "Grandpa wants to see you. He has something to tell you."

Before I could even speak as I walked over, Chen Muxi asked, "Brother, where's my nephew?"

"Beside Grandpa."

Chen Muxi immediately strode inside.

I walked side by side with Su Shenglin behind me.

"What did Grandpa Su want to say to me? Was he angry?" I asked in a low voice.

"Don't worry, he's not angry. Grandpa likes Kang Kang very much. When Kang Kang called him Great-Grandpa, the old man was overjoyed!" Su Shenglin reassured me.

When he turned to look at me and smiled, his eyes lit up again.

It was as if something sparkling like a star had fallen into his eyes.

This familiar scene reminded me of the times when we were in love, and my heart was filled with mixed emotions.

Upon entering the bedroom, Chen Muxi was already holding Kang Kang and playing with him.

Kang Kang is interesting too; he doesn't even know Xi Xi, yet he joins in the commotion.

It has to be said, blood ties are truly amazing!

I saw Mr. Su reclining on the bed, walked over and stood still, and respectfully nodded: "Hello, Grandpa Su, it's nice to see you again."

Mr. Su has indeed aged considerably, and his mental state appears to be even worse than that of his grandmother.

Hearing me speak, he raised his hand, and a slight change in expression appeared on his weathered face.

"Jiang Wan..." he began with difficulty, his tone soft and gentle.

"Yes, Grandpa Su, I am Jiang Wan."

"The child... the child is well-born and raised." Mr. Su actually gave me a thumbs up.

I was extremely surprised and didn't know what to say for a moment.

Su Shenglin stood beside me and gently nudged me. "Grandpa praised you, saying you've raised Kang Kang well."

"Oh." I snapped out of my reverie and immediately smiled and replied, "It's alright, the child is very obedient and easy to take care of."

"Hmm...not bad, it's not easy being alone—" The old man spoke in just a few words, just like Kang Kang.

After a brief exchange, Mr. Su's gaze returned to Kang Kang, who was running on the ground.

"Baby, come here, let Great-Grandpa hold your hand again." I understood, so I immediately called my son, picked him up, and sat him on the edge of the bed.

I glanced at Su Shenglin, and he immediately understood.

She stepped forward, took the old man's hand, and then held her son's hand.

"Sweetie, what do you want to call me?" I guided the child.

After thinking for a moment, prompted by Su Shenglin, the little guy called out in a clear voice, "Great-Grandpa."

“Yes, it’s Great-Grandpa, Dad’s grandfather,” Su Shenglin agreed, then casually asked, “What do you call Dad?”

Kang Kang turned to look at him, and this time called out clearly, "Dad!"

Su Shenglin was overjoyed and happily patted his son's head, "You're so smart, I'm your dad!"

"What about me? I'm the auntie, will you call me auntie?" Chen Muxi immediately leaned over and asked.

I was also teaching her, "Auntie, Auntie—"

"Dudu, dudu..." the little guy called out, but his pronunciation was inaccurate, which made everyone laugh.

Returning to Suzhou Garden, I was greeted by a harmonious and joyful scene that I never imagined.

At noon, we returned to the main house for lunch.

Mrs. Su and Mr. Su were all smiles throughout the meal.

Chen Muxi sat down next to me and whispered, "You just asked what my parents thought about you secretly having a child—isn't it obvious? Of course they like it! All the aunts and uncles in our family have several grandchildren and great-grandchildren in every household, but my family, which lives in the biggest old house, is also the most deserted, without any children's laughter."

I smiled after hearing that, unsure how to respond.

“But now it’s all good, the house is lively again.” Chen Muxi continued, then nudged me with her elbow, “Don’t leave, stay. My brother has been waiting for you, he doesn’t want anyone but you.”

My cheeks flushed; I hadn't expected the topic to suddenly veer off to this.

I glanced up at Su Shenglin sitting across from me, only to find that he was looking at me too.
