Chapter 37 Giving the Bracelet to Jiang Yi

Although this was what I expected and what I wanted, I still feel sad.

The image of Su Shenglin floats in my mind. Although we have only known each other for a short time, every expression, every smile, and every elegant and composed movement of his is clearly preserved.

I was depressed for a while, but then I saw that it was getting late, so I mustered my spirits, packed my things, and rushed to the hospital.

The confrontation with the Jiang family is another tough battle. I don't have the energy to dwell on personal feelings right now; I can only let time slowly fade them away.

When I arrived at the hospital, I saw that Jiang Haiyang and Tang Xiu'e had been released ahead of schedule, and I knew it must be thanks to Gu Yanqing.

Jiang Yi's situation was indeed very bad, just as they said.

She was in a special care ward, surrounded by various instruments. She was buried in a bunch of tubes, with an oxygen tube inserted into her nose. Her face was sallow and her eyes were lifeless.

When she saw me come in, she slowly turned her head and stared at me, her eyes filled with resentment and anger.

Gu Yanqing was not in good condition. He looked very tired, and his dark circles were obvious. It seemed that he had been tormented by Jiang Yi these days.

"You're here. Did you bring the bracelet?" He got straight to the point as soon as he saw me.

I glanced at him indifferently, then looked at Jiang Haiyang and Tang Xiue, and raised the sheep bracelet on my wrist. "It's on my wrist. Where's the share transfer agreement?"

Jiang Haiyang snorted angrily, walked to the table, picked up a few documents, and said, "Here!"

I pursed my lips, took out my phone, took pictures of all the documents, and sent them to my lawyer for review.

"What do you mean by this? Are you afraid we'll cheat you?" Tang Xiu'e was furious.

I put her in detention for a few days, and I guess she was so angry she wanted to stab me, so her words were full of hostility.

I said calmly, "You've cheated me more than once or twice."

After waiting a while, my lawyer replied, saying that there was no problem with the agreement.

I took out a pen, signed, pressed my fingerprint, and put the document away.

"When will the announcement be released and the board meeting be held?" I asked Jiang Haiyang.

Any changes in a company's equity structure must be reported and disclosed.

"We'll have a meeting as soon as we get to work on Monday," Jiang Haiyang said, his face as grim as a demon.

I nodded. "Okay, I'll definitely be there early."

"Where's the bracelet? Give it to me." Tang Xiu'e's face was fierce as she reached out her hand to me.

I ignored her, glanced at Jiang Yi, and walked towards the hospital bed.

Gu Yanqing stood on the other side of the hospital bed. When he saw me approaching, his face became noticeably tense, as if he was afraid I would make a move.

I couldn't help but chuckle. "Why are you so nervous? I wouldn't risk harming someone who's already on the verge of death; it would dirty my hands."

Gu Yanqing gritted his teeth slightly, "Jiang Wan, watch your mouth."

I ignored her, raised my arm, and looked at the weak Jiang Yi, asking, "Do you really like this bracelet that much?"

Jiang Yi shifted her body, and Gu Yanqing realized that she wanted to sit up. He quickly stepped forward and carefully helped her up, then stuffed a pillow behind her back.

That's so thoughtful and considerate.

I used to take such meticulous care of him when he was sick, and now he has passed on that meticulous care to his third sister, who interfered in our marriage.

How ironic.

Jiang Yi leaned back comfortably, took a few slow breaths, and said after her breathing had calmed down, "Anything that you, Jiang Wan, have taken a liking to, I'll like..."

What?

I stared wide-eyed, laughed incredulously, and looked at Gu Yanqing, asking, "Did you hear that? Didn't you keep saying that I was overthinking things, that Jiang Yi was very naive and innocent, and wouldn't have such thoughts—do you still think that now?"

"..." Gu Yanqing's face was very embarrassed.

He should have understood what kind of person Jiang Yi was long ago, but he had already made the wrong choice. In order not to embarrass himself, he still insisted on sticking to his decision even though he knew he was wrong.

But now that Jiang Yi has admitted it to his face, she doesn't even bother to pretend anymore, which is tantamount to slapping him in the face—how could he not be embarrassed and lose face?

Jiang Yi was terminally ill and knew her days were numbered, so she became utterly shameless.

She held out her hand, her tone arrogant: "Give me the bracelet. You've already signed to get your shares back, are you trying to go back on your word?"

I held the bracelet in one hand, staring at her with a cold gaze, without responding.

Jiang Yi turned to look at Gu Yanqing and said weakly, "Brother Yanqing... could you go and get the bracelet for me and put it on for me?"

She struggled to raise the hand that wasn't receiving an IV drip, facing Gu Yanqing, and waited quietly.

Gu Yanqing glanced at me, and I looked at him too, wondering if he would still favor Jiang Yi.

As expected, he continued to disappoint me.

Walking around the foot of the bed, Gu Yanqing's face was gloomy and expressionless. He raised his hand and reached out to me: "Jiang Wan, give me the bracelet."

I asked in a cold voice, "What if she breaks my bracelet?"

"No, she likes it so much, she will cherish and protect it."

I pretended to hesitate and struggle, and remained silent for a minute or two before reluctantly taking the bracelet off my wrist.

He handed it to Gu Yanqing.

Jiang Yi smiled, a victorious smile, a triumphant smile.

"Brother Yanqing, hurry, help me put it on," she urged.

Gu Yanqing walked to the bedside, took her withered hand, and put the bracelet on her wrist.

She was so thin that the bracelet hung loosely on her and would fall off with the slightest movement.

“Worth 300 million, tsk tsk...it doesn’t look like much.” Jiang Yi flicked her hand, admiring the jade bracelet.

I couldn't help but scoff, "No matter how ordinary it is, it's something you can't have."

Jiang Yi looked at me, her face suddenly turning fierce. "Jiang Wan, what are you so smug about? All these years, you've only seen me competing with you in everything—but you don't know that you were actually the one who started competing with me first!"

I frowned upon hearing this, as if I had heard the biggest joke of the century. "You want me to take it from you first? Are you so sick that you can't even speak coherently?"

Tang Xiu'e suddenly rushed up, "Jiang Wan! Watch your mouth! Or I'll slap you across the face!"

I glared at her fiercely and said, "Fine, go ahead and smoke. You can go inside after you're done."

Upon hearing this, her expression visibly changed, and her arrogance subsided considerably.

It seems that once you've been to the police station, you'll learn a valuable lesson.

Jiang Yi stared at me and said something that completely shattered my understanding: "To be precise, it was your mother who started it! My dad and mom were in love and were going to be together, but your mom took a fancy to my dad and insisted on being with him, stealing him away! My mom was already pregnant, but she had to have an abortion. Fortunately, God had mercy, and later my mom got pregnant again, and she was carrying twins. The child she miscarried came back..."

What?

After hearing those words, my mind went completely blank.

Was it my mother who stole Jiang Haiyang and Tang Xiu'e's love back then?

"Impossible. My mom isn't that kind of person. It must be that Jiang Haiyang abandoned her because he saw that my mom's family was well-off and wanted to make his own way in the world." I didn't believe Jiang Yi's words at all and refuted her logically.

"If you don't believe me, go back and ask your grandma! It was your mother who stole someone else's husband, causing my siblings and me to suffer for over ten years. That's why I've been competing with you for everything since I returned to the Jiang family. I'm just so angry... cough! cough cough—"
