Chapter 56 Su Shenglin, I saved your life, you must listen to me!

"No wonder you can cook porridge and hangover soup." I thought of the time I was drunk, and how he "washed his hands and cooked soup" for me.

"That's nothing," Su Shenglin said casually.

After talking for a while, most of my doubts have been resolved, and I feel much more relaxed and happy.

Su Shenglin could tell I was relieved, and asked with a smile, "Don't you think now that our family is being nice to you so much that we're trying to rip out your heart, lungs, and blood?"

I was embarrassed by the teasing and my face turned red. "I'm sorry, I was being petty before."

"It's good that you've explained it clearly. I didn't mention it before because I felt you had forgotten about these things, and I didn't want to bring it up. Besides, you're getting married soon, and if our family were to treat you well for no reason, it would only cause you trouble and make your husband's family misunderstand."

I was deeply moved; he always considered things so thoroughly.

"In the end, your marriage didn't go through and you ran into a lot of trouble, so I told my family that I wanted to help you—and that's how all the things that happened later came about."

I was so moved I didn't know what to do.

I've always held a grudge, even suspecting that the other person had ill intentions. I never imagined that the seeds I sowed in my childhood would yield the fruits I'm reaping now.

Having finished our conversation, I realized that Su Shenglin still had other guests to entertain, and I didn't want to take up too much of his time. So I straightened up and said with great gratitude, "Thank you and your family. You've helped me so much in the past month. I'm truly grateful!"

"You're welcome. You saved my life; your kindness is priceless." Su Shenglin straightened up, turned to look at me, and asked, "So, you have no more questions now, right?"

I thought about it, and there really is one.

"The last thing."

"you say."

"I want to know, how did you get to my wedding with Gu Yanqing? I heard you went with Young Master Ye's invitation."

Although the matter is in the past, I was still curious, so I seized the opportunity to ask him about it and wanted to hear his explanation.

Su Shenglin looked at me quietly, the smile in his eyes still lingering, like twinkling stars.

“I knew you were getting married. I thought you had saved my life twice, even though you probably don’t remember. I remembered, so I felt I should send you my blessings. It just so happened that Yuntang was away on a business trip those two days and wasn’t in Jiangcheng. He originally wanted his family to give a gift, but I said I was free and would go in his place. So I went and gave a generous gift, but who knew… by some twist of fate, you weren’t the bride at that wedding. So when I left, I asked for the money back.”

"Huh?" I was so surprised I looked like a child with a big mouth, my face frozen, and after a long while I asked incredulously, "You...are you sure you want to do this? Get the betrothal money back?"

“Yes.” He nodded solemnly. “My feelings are only for you. Since the bride is not you, why should I waste my money?”

I asked curiously, "So how much money did you give as a wedding gift?"

"It's not a lot, just 660,000, for good luck."

Oh My God!

"Thank goodness you came back! Otherwise, they would have gotten away with it for nothing!"

We were laughing heartily on the terrace when Butler Zhou, following the sound of our laughter, came over and said respectfully, "Second Young Master, Master and Madam want you to come downstairs."

"Okay, I'll go in a bit," Su Shenglin replied.

I immediately said, "You go ahead and get busy. I'll just stay here and keep quiet so I don't cause any more trouble for you."

The main reason is that my identity is sensitive, and there are too many rumors and gossips about me. I don't want to attract attention anymore.

Su Shenglin nodded. "I'll have my little sister come up and keep you company."

"No..." I was about to refuse when he had already left quickly with Butler Zhou.

Not long after, Chen Muxi came up with a sweet smile on her face.

"Xixi, you really don't need to stay with me. Go and greet the other guests," I sincerely advised.

"Ugh, I don't like those noisy places either, they drive me crazy." Chen Muxi waved her hand and instructed the waiter behind her, "Just put it here."

The waiter carried various snacks, several dishes, and a bottle of red wine, which were placed on the low tables on the terrace.

"Jiang Wan, please sit down. You didn't eat much tonight, did you? Have something to eat." Chen Muxi sat down and invited me to eat.

I had no choice but to sit down as well.

"Xixi, you really fooled me. You've helped me so much several times, and I didn't even know who you were," I said, feigning complaint.

Chen Muxi said, "Do good deeds and don't worry about the future—I learned this from you. Look at how you saved my brother's life several times, always keeping your merits hidden and leaving quietly."

I couldn't help but chuckle.

Now that she says it, it does seem to be true.

"That time at the hospital entrance, did you leave your brother at the hospital to take me home?" I asked curiously while eating.

"Oh, he can just send a driver to pick him up. It's just a matter of waiting."

What happened to him that day?

"Nothing much, it's just that autumn is dry, and he was working overtime lately, so he got a nosebleed that wouldn't stop. He asked me to take him to the hospital to get checked out early in the morning."

I was startled. "Then the checkup was fine, right?"

"Of course there's no problem. He just doesn't take care of his health when he's busy. He's afraid my mom will scold him if she finds out, so he doesn't dare call the family doctor and secretly goes to the hospital for a checkup."

"Yes, I've heard your mother mention it. She said that when he's busy, it's common for him to stay up all night."

“Yes, and nobody can control him. It’s so worrying.” Chen Muxi muttered, then suddenly looked at me and said, “Jiang Wan, you should keep a closer eye on my brother! He’s not even thirty yet. Tell him to take care of himself and not die young.”

My face flushed red, and I didn't know where to look. "This... how is this my place to interfere? We're not related..."
