"Huh? Isn't Senior Gu's family super rich?" someone next to him immediately asked.
Xu Qianning looked at them with disdain: "Look at you, you've never seen the world! That's a high-end car from Hongqi, a limited edition custom model. It's not something you can just buy if you have money. You have to have a clean family history for generations and make outstanding contributions to the country to be eligible to have it customized."
"Wow..." The group of people were all stunned.
Xu Qianning looked at me and asked, "Does your husband have that ability?"
I smiled and said casually, "I never said that was my husband. Can't we just be friends?"
Someone exclaimed in surprise, then asked curiously, "Jiang Wan, I heard someone spent 300 million yuan to buy you a jade bracelet. Could it be this friend who drives the Hongqi luxury car?"
I laughed and asked in return, "Guess?"
Xu Qianning was surprised again, "Three hundred million for a jade bracelet? You must be kidding the layman. Rich people aren't that stupid."
An old classmate next to me said, "It's true. It's a charity auction held by China Guardian Auction House in Shanghai. I heard it's for a very important and mysterious person."
"Tch, you guys are getting more and more ridiculous. Jiang Wan is a married woman, who would be crazy enough to throw money at her? Three hundred million, what's the point?" Xu Qianning didn't believe it at all, she mocked and looked me up and down with disdain, "Unless... you're two-timing."
A wise person does not defend himself.
I nodded and agreed, "I am indeed quite good at splits, especially the full split."
Before I could finish speaking, my phone rang. It was Li Yunwei calling.
I answered the call and turned to leave with Chen Wanzhen in my arms.
Li Yunwei called to ask how I got to school. When she found out I didn't drive, she said we could go back together that night, and her driver would pick me up.
Remembering Su Shenglin's words, I made up an excuse to decline: "No need, my roommate is back too, we'll probably be having a blast tonight, I don't know what time I'll be back."
"Is that Chen Wanzhen? I'll see if I'm free later and come visit you guys."
Li Yunwei knew that among her roommates, she was closest to Chen Wanzhen. They often ate together in college and were quite familiar with each other.
After hanging up the phone, I told Chen Wanzhen, "Li Yunwei said she'll come see you when she has time."
“Okay, I’d also like to meet her.” Chen Wanzhen nodded readily, then glanced back at Xu Qianning and her group who were still following behind us, and muttered, “They’re probably still gossiping about you. You’re really good at holding back. Xu Qianning is practically riding on your head, and you’re not even fighting back.”
I smiled faintly, "What's the rush? Isn't she back in China to take up her post? I had someone inquire, and she's the president of the East Asia region for the OYA brand. We're both in the fashion industry, so we'll have plenty of opportunities to work together in the future. Why ruin your mood on such a good day?"
Chen Wanzhen was taken aback. "You're really quick! You even managed to find out this."
“She said yesterday that there would be many opportunities to meet in the future—I suspected that she was also in this industry, so I asked people in the circle last night, and sure enough, I found out.”
Last night, I asked Yang Qianmu on a whim, since he also returned to China from Europe to develop his career.
The overseas Chinese community is neither too big nor too small. If you're in the same industry, you can always find someone you know by asking around.
Chen Wanzhen gave me a thumbs up and said admiringly, "Impressive! I was so focused on her using money to humiliate you that I didn't even notice what she was saying."
We walked and talked, following the itinerary notification sent by the alumni group. We first went to the college to report, and then participated in the college's internal celebration activities in the morning.
Lunch was a buffet at one of the campus cafeterias.
Chen Wanzhen and I were eating at our favorite cafeteria, the Fifth Cafeteria, when Li Yunwei came running over. As soon as she sat down, she excitedly exclaimed, "Jiang Wan! Jiang Wan! Guess who I saw!"
I asked casually, "Who?"
“Look back!” she exclaimed excitedly, patting me on the shoulder.
I turned around and unexpectedly saw Su Shenglin at a glance!
As he entered the cafeteria with a group of school leaders, he was greeted with a great deal of attention.
When the students saw the school leaders, they all greeted them respectfully, and the school leaders naturally raised their hands to greet the students in return.
Just then, Su Shenglin caught sight of me, a clear smile playing on his lips, and started walking towards me.
I was terrified and quickly waved my hand at him, signaling him not to come any closer.
He understood, and the smile on his lips turned into a bit of helplessness. Just then, a vice principal spoke to him, gesturing for him to go up to the second floor. He glanced at me again, then turned and walked towards the stairs.
I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The Fifth Dining Hall is one of the more expensive dining halls at the University of Washington. It has private rooms on the second floor and is used as a reception area for the university.
Su Shenglin was clearly a high-profile alumnus who was invited to the banquet by the school leaders.
It's better for a nobody like me to remain invisible.
Chen Wanzhen looked at me, completely bewildered, and asked, "What's wrong? Who are you flirting with?"
I looked away and sat up straight. "It's nothing, just saw someone I know."
Seeing that I didn't bring it up, Li Yunwei didn't say much either, but just looked at Chen Wanzhen and exchanged pleasantries.
I lowered my head and continued eating.
My phone rang; it was WeChat.
I took it out and saw that it was sent by Su Shenglin.
Why are you avoiding me? Are you that afraid your classmates will see me?
My cheeks burned as I looked at the message.
You already know the reason, why are you asking!
I was afraid that if I ignored him, he would call again, so I thought for a moment and replied: "It's not that I'm afraid my classmate will see you, it's that I'm afraid your presence will attract the attention of the school leaders, and they'll drag me along to keep them company."
So what if I'm just keeping you company? It's just a meal.
"No, I just want to be free to wander around and chat with old classmates. I don't want to deal with school leaders; the pressure is too much."
