"Jiang Wan, I truly loved you, and I genuinely wanted to win you back. But you wouldn't give me a chance, stubbornly blocking our path. If you're heartless, don't blame me for being ruthless too. You're in such a hurry to get rid of me and be with Su Shenglin? Dream on! What I can't have, no one else can have either!"
Gu Yanqing's tone was urgent and sharp, completely exposing his dark inner self. Even through the microphone, I could feel his ferocious and perverse nature.
My mind went blank, a constant buzzing sound filled my ears, and my heart turned utterly cold.
"You're insane, you're a demon."
"That was because you forced me to!"
"Gu Yanqing, you're not a man at all. You don't even have the courage to admit your mistakes. Anyone with eyes can see who's the heartless traitor and the one who repays kindness with enmity between us, yet you still try to distort the truth."
Disheartened, I made a few sarcastic remarks and, without waiting for his response, continued, "If you want to keep going, I'll play along to the end. Anyway, Miss Gu will suffer with you, and I'll be happy to see your Gu family members get their comeuppance one by one."
After saying that, I hung up immediately and ended the call.
I continued driving calmly, but before I knew it, my eyes were fogged up.
What a spineless person! What's there to cry about?
That kind of beast doesn't deserve it at all!
I gave myself a good scolding, wiped my eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to calm my chaotic thoughts.
Actually, thinking about it from another perspective, I should thank Gu Yanqing for being so ruthless, so that I don't have to care about any past feelings for him.
If he were to plead and beg like before, admitting his mistakes and apologizing, kneeling down to try and keep meāthat would only make it harder for me to be ruthless, leaving me torn and conflicted, causing me even more pain.
Now that things are like this, I can finally get my revenge. We'll see who wins and who loses in the end.
When I was almost home, Su Shenglin called again.
"Are you back?"
"Almost there, have you arrived yet?"
"Yes, it's downstairs in your apartment complex."
"Okay, right away."
As I drove into the residential area, I saw Su Shenglin standing by the roadside in the distance when I was almost at the building.
He wore a long, mid-length coat, his figure was upright, and his temperament was outstanding. Even in the darkness, he exuded a mature and elegant aura, highlighting his extraordinary status.
My heart suddenly calmed down.
I got out of the car and walked over, and he took two steps forward to greet me.
"How are you? Are you alright?" Su Shenglin looked down at me and asked with concern.
I gave a faint smile and said, "It's nothing. I was the one who reported someone else to the police, not the other way around."
A smile played on his lips. "You can still joke around, so you're really alright."
"Hmm..." I nodded and looked at him, asking, "Would you like to come up and sit for a while?"
Su Shenglin raised an eyebrow slightly, seemingly surprised, "Convenient?"
"What's inconvenient about it? It's freezing outside, it would be stupid to stand here and talk."
Su Shenglin smiled and said, "I thought you were going to distance yourself from me again."
Understanding the deeper meaning in his words, I shrugged slightly, feeling a sense of relief as if I had suddenly broken free from constraints: "Actually, it doesn't matter. Even if we haven't divorced yet, it won't change the outcome. It just depends on whether Second Master Su minds my awkward status."
Su Shenglin's smile deepened, and he slightly raised his hand in a "please" gesture, giving the impression that he was taking over the role of the host.
"When have I ever minded? It's you who's always been sneaking around and looking back and forth."
"I'm doing this for your own good."
"Yes, I understand."
As I went upstairs and entered the house, I waved my hand towards the small living room and said apologetically, "I've been too busy with work, and everything is a mess. Please bear with me."
Su Shenglin looked around and nodded, saying, "It is a bit messy, but it's better than a pigsty or a doghouse."
I poured him a cup of hot water and came back. Upon hearing this, my face darkened, and I pretended to be angry: "What do you mean? Are you comparing me to pigs and dogs?"
He chuckled and quickly apologized, "Just kidding, I was just looking at you because you were in a bad mood."
I pursed my lips, glanced at him, and turned to walk away.
I thought I had handled it well, but I didn't expect him to still see through it.
"It's alright, I have this under control, and I'm not too worried. It'll just take some more time," I said casually as I sat down on the other sofa.
Su Shenglin took a sip of hot water, put down the glass, and turned to ask me, "The report you mentioned, is it the leverage you have over the Gu family?"
"Yes, Gu Yutian framed me before, and the evidence was conclusive. I used that incident to threaten Gu Yanqing into agreeing to a divorce, but I didn't expect that their whole family would conspire to deceive me and go back on their word."
"Miss Gu harmed you? How did she harm you?" Su Shenglin was somewhat confused.
I briefly recounted how Gu Yutian drugged me and then suffered the consequences herself.
After listening, his expression became noticeably serious, and he seemed to have a hint of displeasure. "You've been through so much lately, but you haven't mentioned a word to me. It seems you really don't consider me a friend at all."
I knew what he was upset about, so I explained, "You're busy and working hard enough. I can handle things myself, why bother you?"
"Was this your style when you were with Gu Yanqing before?"
"Yes, I was like this even before I was with him."
I will never trouble others with things I can handle myself. Even if I have to trouble them, I will always find an opportunity to repay or express my gratitude.
My unique family background taught me to see through human nature early on: mountains crumble and people run away; only oneself is truly reliable.
Su Shenglin looked at me quietly, then let out a silent sigh, seemingly both heartbroken and helpless.
Ever since I came back, the myna bird has been wagging its tail, eagerly awaiting my taking it downstairs for a walk.
Seeing that I hadn't moved for a long time, the clever myna bird got anxious and started howling. It picked up the leash, dropped it at my feet, and howled at me.
