"Please inform them that we wish to see Mother Cen."
A gatekeeper peeked out from the side gate. Unlike other places where there were thugs, the waiters at Fengyue Tower took turns greeting guests and guarding the gate.
When the gatekeeper informed Cen's mother, she was playing with her little girl on the bed. She had been feeling refreshed these past few days. Although she hadn't had an upset stomach, she felt much better and lighter than before. She wasn't stupid; she knew what had happened. Tonight, Cen's mother was going to check with Old Zhang to see if this little fairy was secretly putting something into the food in the backyard.
"Have they managed to scrape together enough money?"
Cen's mother felt like a clock was starting to chime in her head, and she frowned.
"Call Chunying, Liuxu, Zhang Mama, and Steward Zhao over."
"yes"
The waiter hurried over to call for help, and Madam Cen sent her maid to the door to welcome the Huo family in.
She picked up the little boy, placed the little girl on her shoulder, and said...
"Your family has come to ransom you, my little darling."
From the moment I first met Cen's mother, she always had a stern face and rarely smiled.
Cen's mother's voice choked slightly as she continued...
"Going out is good, going out is a good thing. Our Yadan deserves the best in the world."
At this point, the woman could no longer hold back her tears; stolen moments are never meant to be held onto. She wasn't some wildflower picked up by the roadside; her little girl had a home, and that was a good thing.
The little dumpling had her own ideas. It was such a small matter; couldn't she just stay?
She had it all planned out: seven days a week, Monday to Friday, she would stay at the brothel. Weekends would be spent at the Huo family's house; in her eyes, this was no big deal.
Mother Cen led a group of people to receive the Huo family in the front hall. Mother Cen sat in the main seat, with Chunying and Zhao Kai sitting next to her.
He Yi chatted with her for a few minutes, and then mentioned...
"Madam, our family has raised enough money to redeem Long'er from her servitude—one hundred taels. Please take a look."
She placed the banknotes on the table and pushed them towards Cen's mother.
Mrs. Cen glanced at it and said
"The fact that Mrs. He's family was able to raise the money in just a few days shows how short-sighted I was back then."
Chunying then continued
"Why talk about money? We genuinely love this little girl. We're not short of money in our building, it's just that we can't bear to part with her."
Mrs. Cen nodded and continued...
"Sister, it's not about money, it's about the future... this future."
She couldn't continue speaking at this point; the thought of not having a young girl by her side made her heart ache.
"I hope you'll treat her even better in the future."
The willow catkins whispered softly, making a sound.
Cen's mother was silently weeping. No one was blind; the Huo family genuinely cared for this daughter. Even if they had some ulterior motives, she wouldn't let her go.
But the Huo family didn't have that.
"Mom, don't cry."
The little girl ran in from the backyard, holding a handkerchief in her little hands, and wiped away Cen's mother's tears.
"I'm not leaving, I really won't leave."
The little girl also choked up a bit.
Don't cry.
He Yi was also moved to tears when she saw this scene.
"Take the money, but the indenture is here."
Mother Cen lit the indenture by the candle in front of her; she couldn't possibly hand over any evidence against her little girl to someone else.
"Although this is a brothel, I've fed and cared for her well this past year, so I hope you'll continue to pay her a lot of attention in the future," Madam Cen said, looking at He Yi.
"Mom, sob sob sob, I don't want to go."
The little girl suddenly burst into tears, startling the adults.
Huo Xiaolong has always been known for his emotional stability, but this time he was like a child sitting on the ground wailing, and several adults forgot to pick him up and comfort him.
"I'm not leaving, I'm not leaving."
The child was already rolling around on the ground.
Huo Xiaolong thought to himself, "Surely she can resolve this by crying, making a scene, and threatening suicide. In my past life, I've seen this trick work flawlessly on kids."
Huo Shuwen watched his daughter rolling around nearby. From the first moment he saw the child, he knew perfectly well that the little girl was definitely like him; she took after him. She was smart, and her personality was exactly like his. How could someone like him possibly do something like crying, making a scene, or threatening suicide?
Her purpose is what she seeks.
"Alright, if you're not going, then stay put!"
The little dumpling, who had been rolling around on the ground, immediately stood up upon hearing this and said...
"Okay, I've thought it all through."
The little girl's words were interrupted.
I never intended to force you to go back.
Huo Shuwen squatted down and brushed the dirt off the little girl.
"Next time, just tell me what you want. You don't need to do this."
Little Egg nodded, and he continued...
"It pains your mother to see you cry like this, and it pains me too. As long as what you want isn't unreasonable, Dad will give it to you."
Huo Shuwen was wearing a gray short-sleeved cotton-padded jacket today, with a black outer robe made by He Yi for wind protection. He picked up the little girl, placed her on his lap, sat back down next to his wife, and said to Cen's mother...
“Madam, you saved Long’er’s life. Putting ourselves in your shoes, we would never betray you. Before we came, our family had already discussed it. If Long’er didn’t want to come home with us, we would buy a house next to the brothel, so we could see our daughter every day, and you wouldn’t have to suffer the pain of missing her.”
Mother Cen was overjoyed to hear this.
Zhao Kai stood up, clasped his hands in a fist salute to Huo Shuwen, and said...
"Mr. Huo is very righteous; thank you for relieving our worries."
Huo Shuwen thought to himself, "Here it comes again. That feeling is back. The feeling of fighting with those pedantic, pretentious guys over a wife is still vivid in my mind." So, he didn't want to reply to Zhao Kai, and just nodded at him.
