"Grandpa Gu"
The elderly man who was getting his medicine dispensed frowned slightly when he saw the two children.
The older one next to it is alright, well-behaved and obedient. Why did this little one come along too?
"Why did you two come here on your own?"
"Bear Cub found a puppy, do you think it can be treated?"
The crisscrossing wounds made the old man look serious. Putting aside whether he was a veterinarian or not, these wounds couldn't have been inflicted while he was a vagrant; he must have been beaten up.
"I'm a human healer! I treat people."
"I know"
Huo Xiaolong pouted and said
"Of all the doctors I know, you're the best. I'll definitely go to you."
This compliment made the old man feel a little better. The child was a bit naughty, but he had a sweet tongue.
"It's not that it's beyond saving, but let me be clear upfront: there's no guarantee it can be saved."
"Okay," Hou Xiangxiang nodded to Huo Xiaolong.
Most young girls are powerless against furry creatures, and when Hou Xiangxiang heard that it was estimated to be so badly injured, she almost burst into tears.
If the puppy survives, Gao Di will take it home and raise it.
Dr. Gu carefully shaved the puppy's fur clean and gave it some anesthetic.
"I'll try to sew up its wound. You all go out first?"
Hou Xiangxiang had never heard of wounds being stitched up before. She'd never heard of anyone getting their wound stitched up before. The little girl stared wide-eyed at Doctor Gu. Huo Xiaolong, on the other hand, understood that wound suturing was a fundamental part of surgery. If a wound was too large to heal on its own, suturing was a normal procedure.
"Why do we have to try? Can't you sew, Grandpa?"
Gu Shilin felt his blood rushing to his head again.
"The matter of stitching up a wound is unprecedented and unparalleled. Your grandpa Gu is the first! The very first time! Isn't that perfectly normal!?"
"You didn't even sew it up before you put it on!"
Just as Huo Xiaolong was about to say something shocking, Hou Xiangxiang covered her mouth and said...
"Grandpa Gu, you keep sewing. We're not scared. We'll just watch from here."
The little girl knew her best friend was a bit slow on the uptake, and she was used to it, but others weren't. Every time Doctor Gu went to the brothel, he would leave in a rage, his face flushed. Hou Xiangxiang even suspected that if Grandpa Gu went to the red-light district a few more times, he would lose several years of his lifespan.
Half an hour later, the puppy still had two wounds left. Huo Xiaolong couldn't hold back any longer and said...
"Grandpa Gu, he's a little... a little ugly..." the little dumpling, who had been wounded and bled for the country and had his wounds stitched up by military doctors, said with disdain.
"That's true, a bit..."
Hou Xiangxiang couldn't help but look at the messy stitches, which were even worse than Long'er's handwriting.
"Whoever speaks first gets to sew it!"
Huo Xiaolong nudged Hou Xiangxiang a few times, signaling her to go.
The little girl was stunned. She had never even held a needle before, and they were just asking her to sew?
"I can't do it!"
"Your sewing is definitely better than Grandpa Gu's. Look at the pants you sewed for me, even my mother and I can't tell the difference. Why don't you let Grandpa Gu teach you?"
After thinking about it, Dr. Gu realized it wasn't a bad idea. The main problem was that he had hardly ever touched a needle and thread since birth, and a girl with steady hands and good embroidery skills like her was much better than him.
"Little girl, why don't you give it a try?"
"I can't! I can't..."
"You can do it! You absolutely must! Do you want to raise a hairless dog in the future?"
Huo Xiaolong had made up his mind. He had to make it work, even if it was impossible. Even if the little girl didn't sew it up properly, she could leave a bowl of elixir for Doctor Gu and make sure she survived.
The little girl thought for a moment, washed her hands, picked up the needle and thread, and said...
"What do you suggest? I'll sew it up."
"Use this clip to lift the skin up; yes, just sew up the top layer of skin and flesh."
Hou Xiangxiang, on the surface, is obedient, charming, and easy to manipulate, but she is actually quite opinionated. Otherwise, she wouldn't have run all the way from Beining to Pingyang County just to get Madam Hou away from her father, seeing her mother crying every day in the mansion.
The same goes for hand-sewing; it wasn't because Huo Xiaolong asked her to do it, but because the girl genuinely felt sorry for the little dog.
She wanted it to live.
"Is it done, Grandpa Gu?"
Hou Xiangxiang was covered in sweat, and her breathing became rapid with tension, but her hand holding the needle remained steady.
"Alright, it's definitely better than what I sew."
Huo Xiaolong took out a handkerchief to wipe the sweat from his girlfriend's forehead, then handed a porcelain bottle to Doctor Gu and winked at him.
The old man immediately understood that the little dog Yama couldn't take it away; Yama couldn't take away a single thing that the spendthrift Xinglin had set his sights on.
Is there any kind soul who can save a dog with some miracle cure?
The sun was setting, and it was getting dark. The two girls walked hand in hand down the street. Hou Xiangxiang asked somewhat nervously...
"Little Dragon Sister, do you think it can survive?"
"Should be able to."
"We found the bear cub; if it doesn't survive, the bear cub will be very sad."
Huo Xiaolong didn't know how to respond. The bear cub might not actually be sad. It might have just been picked up to play with. After all, bears aren't exactly good people. They may look cute, but their hunting methods are quite cruel.
After they catch their prey, they don't kill it, but rather torment it until the prey is no longer able to resist, then they start eating it.
Yes, eat them alive.
So the little dumpling didn't have the same bias towards all wild animals just because it was a bear cub.
"I haven't finished my homework yet..."
"Why don't you continue writing when you get home tonight?"
"My mom said she'd check after dinner..."
Huo Xiaolong grabbed Hou Xiangxiang and ran off. If they were caught not finishing their homework, they probably wouldn't be able to go out for the next couple of days.
