Chapter 129: Not Enough!

"Military camp, restricted area; unauthorized personnel are not permitted to approach."

The Huo family got off the carriage, but were stopped by the gate guards.

The doctor's apprentice took out a waist tag from his basket and said...

"General Xiao invited us; please inform him of this."

The young officer walked over, glanced at the token, and gestured for the person behind him to go in and report.

"Would you like to come in with me?" Doctor Gu asked.

He Yi shook her head

"No need, please go ahead."

Military camps are restricted areas, and not just anyone can enter. It's enough for them to simply meet at the gate. This avoids causing trouble for others and also avoids needlessly incurring favors.

The woman bowed to the young general.

"Sir, I'm Huo Shuwen's wife. I've come to deliver some things to him."

Upon hearing these words, the gatekeepers' eyes lit up, and they kept glancing at the carriage. The Huo family father and son had only been back for a few days, and the dried meat and fried noodles were already completely divided up.

Now he refuses to sell no matter what, not even for money.

"Did the Huo family bring him food?" the gatekeepers wondered.

"Sister-in-law, please don't call me that. Brother Wen has been promoted now; I'll have someone go and fetch him right away."

No wonder Huo Shuwen's family had members who had joined the army, yet he still came over. Looking at the woman and the little dumpling next to her, with a wife who looked like an angel and a daughter who looked like a New Year's painting doll, he thought he would join the army instead.

I'll do anything to give my mother and daughter a life of wealth and luxury; I'd even die for it.

The young soldier clicked his tongue in envy, but before he could announce it, Fan Er came out and led everyone inside.

"Uncle, I heard my dad got promoted?" Huo Xiaolong asked.

Fan Er had a vague recollection of this little dumpling, and replied with a smile.

"Not only your father, but both of your older brothers have also been promoted, though your father's rank isn't as high as your brothers'."

Huo Shuwen is not as cunning as his son. He is currently helping Xiao Lanyi train troops and has the title of centurion. Huo Xiaocheng is different; he was directly promoted to captain and has 1,800 men under his command.

Wow~ My brother is amazing! What about my other brother?

"Your other brother..."

Fan Er didn't know how to put it, Er Hei had also been promoted, but...

The location is just not quite right.

"Your other brother is now in charge of the entire department. Yes, that whole department is under his control."

Which department?

"The cooks!"

"My brother was assigned to cook?"

The little girl's innocent remarks made Fan Er a little embarrassed. At first, Er Hei wasn't there, but the boy would go to the cook's place every few days to argue with him.

"This stuff you make is like pig swill compared to the food at home. What are you even making?" The burly young man shouted at the door, which the cooks were definitely unhappy about.

In the military camp, nobody bothers to argue with you; they just come up and start sparring with Erhei.

Then……

I can't out-move...

Then we'll just close the door and ignore you, okay? The cooks have been closing the door to cook for the past few days, but it still didn't work. That door can't stop Erhei.

"What exactly do you want? Let me tell you, you little brat, I've been cooking for the border army for twenty years, and no one has dared to say a word against my cooking!"

"Your cooking is really bad. Compared to my junior sister's, even a dog wouldn't eat it."

The cook, in a grand manner, picked up the large ladle and placed it in Erhei's hand.

"You try it! Let's see what you can make."

"I'll do it, I'll do it."

When Erhei was at the brothel, he spent most of his time with Erya. They both loved to eat, and the round-faced girl would cook for them every day. Over time, the boy learned to cook too.

In the days following the New Year, he and Er Ya spent a few days wielding large ladles for the toothbrush makers, including Scarface.

"Boss, it seems like what he made is pretty delicious."

"really……"

The leader of the cooks took off his arm sleeves and went to find Xiao Lanyi, insisting on leaving Erhei there no matter what.

"If he stays with you, he'll have to be the vanguard of the cookhouse."

"Young general, your father and I are old acquaintances. What kind of cook is the vanguard? Which cook doesn't cook in the back?"

"You want him to keep wielding that big ladle at the stove with his skills?"

"..."

"Alright! He'll be the vanguard then. He'll go to the front with you during battles, and he'll follow me from behind during peacetime!"

Xiao Lanyi nodded and tasted a mouthful of noodles in his bowl.

It was really delicious. I've been here for almost half a year, and this is the first decent meal I've ever had in the military camp.

"His cooking job is only temporary; your brother will have to come back when he has a chance to earn merit."

Huo Xiaolong didn't care much

"Cooking is fine, cooking is good."

In her past life, the most capable people in the army were the cooks. Thinking back to the fear of being overwhelmed for thirty seconds during the five-kilometer run, Xiao Tuanzi never underestimated those who worked in logistics.

"Go left, and you'll see your father. I'll take Mr. Gu to the general first."

Huo Xiaolong nodded and pulled He Yi along the path Fan Erzhi had pointed out.

"If any of you bring that hammer to me today, I'll reward him with a chicken tonight."

Huo Shuwen, clad in red armor with a silver spear poised behind him, addressed the crowd below in a booming voice.

"Boss Huo, your son can lift it, but we can't."

"I don't think I'll ever get to eat this chicken again in my next life."

"Exactly, isn't it making things difficult for people to have something so big?"

The eagle narrowed its eyes. That's how it is in the military camp; there are always a few troublemakers who don't listen to orders.

"You don't have to train. Go tell the marshal now, pack your things and go home. Otherwise, when you go to the battlefield, your family will have to mourn at your grave."

"Boss, you have to make something we can do. Nobody in the entire camp except the marshal can lift that iron hammer."

Just as Huo Shuwen was about to lose his temper and teach the person who had spoken a lesson, he heard two sounds coming from afar.

"father--"

Was he hallucinating? How come Long'er is still here?

"father--"

Huo Xiaolong could see her father standing majestically on the platform giving a speech from afar. He looked so handsome that her mother's eyes were filled with sweetness.

What's going on? The little dumpling stared at the two huge iron hammers in front of her. Aren't these her brother Erhei's hammers? Why are they leaving things here like this? Who put these things here?

The little girl grabbed the middle iron chain and started running towards her father, leaving two iron balls trailing behind her, creating two deep furrows on the ground.

"Long'er?"

"Dad! Why didn't you pick up my brother's hammer? What are you doing leaving it there? It's quite expensive!"

"..."

"..."

The people being scolded looked embarrassed. So, was it their problem that they couldn't lift it? These little people, dragging the hammer, sometimes stumbled and almost fell, and the chains still hadn't been put down.

"Why did you come here? Your mother?"

Huo Shuwen picked up his daughter and looked at the woman who was walking gracefully from behind. How could he not get tired of looking at her after all these years?

It's so beautiful.

He Yi smiled gently, and the eagle felt as if all the flowers around it were blooming, even though there was only yellow earth next to it.

"What are you doing with my brother's hammer?"

Before Huo Shuwen could give any instructions, the few who had been shouting the loudest stepped forward, wanting to move the hammer back to its original position together.

"They train their strength for that purpose."

"Here you go!"

Huo Xiaolong threw the iron chain in her hand to the ground and hugged her father with great joy.
