It was the howling of the cold night wind, and the sweetness of the fruit in my dream.
The little dumpling slept quietly next to He Yi, with glistening drops at the corners of its mouth.
"What Cheng'er said, have you made up your mind about it?"
Huo Shuwen put his arm around his wife and said
"I've heard that Magistrate Huang's wife is from a distant branch of a prominent family in the capital. She's very proud and her surname is Wen."
"The Wen family's daughters are all incredibly proud and argumentative, constantly fighting at home. How much better can the daughters of the collateral branches be? No wonder they raise children who speak without thinking."
"I'll go out for a bit and resolve this matter. We can't let Fengyue Tower get involved."
Huo Shuwen's voice was slightly hoarse and low. After a moment's thought, he said...
He Yi knew how her husband would handle things, but his family in the border town could barely make ends meet, and the idea of using power was something she dared not even consider. Since that was the case, it was better to cut the Gordian knot quickly.
Okay, be careful, I'll wait for you to come back.
She kissed the man's cheek, and a hint of tenderness appeared in Huo Shuwen's cold eyes.
—A dark and windy night, the third watch of the night
Huo Shuwen, dressed in black, pushed open the door and saw two teenagers sitting by the stone table in the main courtyard.
One was dark-skinned and muscular, like a small mountain; the other was a handsome young man who bore a resemblance to him.
He asked aloud
"What are you two doing here so late at night instead of sleeping?"
"Doesn't Dad also go out this late? What are you doing, Dad?"
Huo Xiaocheng has never been polite to his father, and is somewhat of a rebellious son. Although his father is always furious with him, he can't do anything because his mother is around.
"Go and take care of what happened today. You two should go back to sleep; it's kind of scary here."
"We'll go too."
Erhei nodded in agreement with the young man.
"Xiaolong is also my sister; I can't let her be bullied for nothing."
The muscular, dark-skinned boy patted his chest, looking incredibly safe.
Huo Shuwen looked at the two young men in front of him and nodded.
"Keep up close, and keep it quiet."
This was Huo Xiaocheng's second murder, and he was different from Erhei. Erhei had lived a rough life on the grasslands, and most of his murders were for self-defense. Before his sister disappeared, the hardship Huo Xiaocheng endured most was being beaten by his father every day while practicing martial arts.
The blood was very hot, and when it splashed onto his hands, it felt exactly like it did in his dream.
The handsome young man remained expressionless, as if he had done the act of slitting his throat with a knife a thousand times before.
The Huo family wouldn't kill someone just because the two children had a quarrel. Huo Shuwen originally wanted to check today to see if Magistrate Huang had any dirt on him. If he had any dirt on him, Magistrate Huang would have to think twice before taking action against his family.
While searching the study, the father and his two sons discovered the correspondence between Magistrate Huang and the human traffickers.
The record clearly states that Magistrate Huang bought and sold young girls into his household. But what happened to those girls?
They kidnapped the steward of the Huang family and tortured him to extract a confession. They found out that the young girls had been used by Magistrate Huang and then ended up in the hands of Madam Huang, where they suffered all kinds of hardships and were buried in the backyard of the Huang family mansion.
No wonder the plum blossoms in the backyard of the Huang family are famously beautiful; nourished by the bones of the dead, they bloom naturally and exquisitely.
The Huo family's thought process is different from ordinary people. Logically speaking, they could either preserve the evidence to threaten Magistrate Huang or report the matter to the authorities to ruin his reputation.
But after seeing the evidence and the skeleton, the Huo father and son looked at each other and their minds were in perfect harmony.
The Huang couple deserved to die.
That night, the county magistrate and his wife were beheaded in their home by chivalrous heroes, with irrefutable evidence of their actions laid out on their desk.
The wronged souls beneath the plum blossoms in the backyard were finally able to see the light of day.
This incident stirred up an undercurrent in the border town.
The fighting outside was fierce, and everyone was on edge. There were far fewer children playing in the alley.
Laughter and merriment filled the backyard of the brothel, making the young girls so amused they could hardly stand up straight.
Here's what happened: Huo Shuwen felt that his daughter was too idle, spending her days wandering around the brothel and the Huo family's backyard. So he thought of finding her something to do. Her father felt that his daughter had an extraordinary talent for martial arts. Just look at her strength! She's only the size of a potato, yet she can lift a jar of pickled vegetables. It would be an injustice if she didn't practice martial arts.
The elderly father conveyed his desire to teach his daughter martial arts, and she readily agreed, which made him very happy.
Huo Xiaolong had wanted to learn martial arts for a long time, but the girls in the brothel were all delicate and weak, so it wasn't appropriate to hire a martial arts master. After all, there was a difference between men and women. Her father's request was a way of fulfilling her wish.
This morning, our little dumpling began her first day of martial arts training, a preliminary assessment.
"Long'er, just focus on defeating your brother. Don't worry about anything else. Use all your strength."
Today, the little dumpling was dressed in a sky-blue riding outfit, her hair was braided into two little buns by He Yi, and her chubby little face was listening attentively to her father's teachings.
"Sis, here, take this. You're too small to hit your brother, use this instead."
Erhei handed over a wooden stick as thick as a child's arm from behind, and Huo Shuwen nodded in agreement, signaling his daughter to begin.
The little dumpling transformed into a cannonball and charged straight at Huo Xiaocheng, trying to headbutt his stomach. The young man, being tall and strong, simply grabbed his little sister by the collar with one hand and lifted her up.
But who knew Huo Xiaolong was so strong? He almost couldn't grab it with one hand, so he quickly used both hands to pull.
In that instant, the little dumpling used the momentum of the impact to aim the wooden stick straight for the boy's groin.
Huo Xiaocheng let out a scream and quickly bent over to protect his abdomen, which was followed by a good beating from his sister.
Huo Xiaolong was hitting the back of the victim without any strategy; he just randomly struck with the stick in both hands.
