"Younger sister."
A man rushed out of the main courtyard, wearing a golden crown and brocade robe, looking extremely wealthy.
Hou Xiangxiang was already sitting with her friends on the steps in front of the house, but her mother still refused to tell her who the child's biological father was.
The little girl had already decided that if the man was alive but still wouldn't take responsibility, she would have the second sister and Long'er turn him into a dead man.
The old steward of the Marquis's mansion was no match for Xu Zheng, and could only say something from the doorway.
“Miss, the head of the Xu family insisted on coming to see you, and I couldn’t stop him.”
The red-light district is so small that news of the Lady Hou fainting and needing a doctor spread quickly. Xu Zheng rushed over upon hearing the news.
The title "Sister" from the Marquis made Lady Hou's teeth ache a little.
Having spent so much time in brothels, she felt uncomfortable with this man's stilted, scholarly manner.
"What's wrong with you? Where's the doctor? Didn't Miss Huo say she invited Doctor Gu over?" the man asked, standing by the bed.
"Could you move to the side? You're so tall, you're blocking my sunlight."
Seeing Xu Zheng take two steps to the side, Madam Hou raised her head and said...
"Brother, I am pregnant."
The man's eyes were now full of tenderness as he sat happily on the edge of the bed, holding her hand.
"Then let's get married."
"Anyway... Uncle and Aunt seem to have a good impression of me. I won't skimp on the betrothal gifts or the wedding ceremony, Yingying..."
Xu Zheng's joy was written all over his face. He held the woman's hand and trembled slightly. He had already thought of several names for their child.
The woman looked at him incredulously, then pulled her hand away and said with a smile.
"Xu Zheng, what are you thinking about?"
Why should I marry you?
“The child is mine. We’re both this age now, and we don’t have much time left, Yingying.” Xu Zheng felt he was quite patient. He never expected that such a thing as developing feelings for someone would happen to him at the age of forty.
"The child is yours, but I will not marry you," Lady Hou said expressionlessly.
This not only shocked Xu Zheng, but also the three girls at the door.
Huo Xiaolong felt that Aunt Hou's idea was not something that women in ancient times would do, but she agreed and expressed her support.
Hou Xiangxiang had only one thought in her mind: What should I do if my mother starts a relationship with someone and then abandons them?
Wang Dani thought Aunt Hou was really amazing, and she could follow Aunt Hou's example in the future, provided that she had money and could afford to raise her child.
“The child will take my surname after he is born. You can come and see him and play with him. If you don’t mind, he can call you ‘Dad’.”
"But that's all we can do now, Xu Zheng. I will not marry into another family to serve others, nor will I be responsible for your household and your food, clothing, and daily necessities in a wealthy household."
“From the day my daughter was almost kidnapped and sold because of me, I knew I would never go down that same path again.”
Hearing this, Hou Xiangxiang outside the door felt a little envious, especially since her friend was also saying something beside her.
"It turns out that Aunt Hou, who usually hits you, is cold on the outside but warm on the inside."
"I feel like Aunt Hou really likes you."
"That's my own mother. If she doesn't care about me, who else would she care about!"
With tears still clinging to her face, Hou Xiangxiang turned her head and uttered those words.
"Yingying, what are you talking about with your brother?"
The elderly couple from the Hou family walked in from outside, ignoring the three girls sitting on the steps. It wouldn't be strange for these three children to appear anywhere; it's just steps, let them sit down.
Hearing that their daughter was not feeling well, the two elderly people who had gone out for a walk rushed back. The sight of that big man standing in their daughter's room was too conspicuous, so Mr. Hou asked.
"Father, Mother," the Lady Hou called out.
"Uncle, Aunt, I greet you."
The man then knelt down with a thud, without saying a word, just kneeling there.
"What's wrong? Why is this child kneeling down?" Old Madam Hou tried to help Xu Zheng up, but she couldn't.
"Father, Mother, listen to me, don't get agitated," the woman said softly, leaning against her mother.
"Tell me, we've overcome any obstacle, haven't we?" The old lady tucked a stray strand of her daughter's hair behind her ear and said to her.
“I am pregnant, and the child is my brother’s.”
Upon hearing this, Master Hou swung his cane directly at Xu Zheng. I knew this little brat was up to no good, always running home when he had nothing better to do.
He should have given his father two big slaps when he attended his one-month celebration.
"Father, please listen to me first," the Lady Hou said, pulling her father aside.
“Neither my brother nor I wanted this to happen. That day, I went to Beining to discuss business and was drugged. If it weren’t for my brother’s help, I don’t know what would have happened to me.”
"That's how it is. It's not his fault, nor is it mine, but now that the child has arrived, I want to keep him here."
The Hou family elders didn't immediately check on the unborn child in her womb; they only heard those words—that she had been drugged. In the past few years in Pingyang County, their daughter had had a smooth and successful life; it seemed everyone had forgotten how women outside lived.
When a woman goes out to discuss business, how can she guarantee that she won't encounter a few people with bad intentions?
Old Madam Hou patted her daughter's head and said...
"My son has suffered."
"Where are those people?" Master Hou asked.
“I sent him to Jiangnan to mine,” Xu Zheng said, kneeling down.
Master Hou glanced at him sideways and said...
"Alright, get up. Yingying doesn't blame you. Let's just let this go."
"Uncle, I want to marry Yingying." The man's tone was firm and sincere. As he spoke, he clasped his hands together and kowtowed to the two elders.
