Erhei was quite satisfied at the time.
The night before his mother left, she pulled him aside and said a few words.
“You are a person of the Great Yan, and one day you will return to the Great Yan.”
"If possible, just live your life happily. I have no face to go back."
"But I want...you to bury me in the Great Yan, so I can see my parents one last time."
Before she suffered, she was the apple of someone else's eye. Perhaps life wasn't easy, but the family that raised such a resilient woman must have cared for her very much.
Erhei gathered the bones beside him again. What looked terrifying to others made Erhei feel incredibly at ease.
The evening breeze carried the lingering thoughts of the deceased; in his dream, the man saw that hand again, gently stroking his head and whispering in his ear.
“My son is the best; he’s come to take his mother home.”
"From now on, you must live a good life with your wife, understand?"
"I'm so happy to see you again."
"I saw you wielding your sword to slay the enemy, and I'm so happy to have you."
Erhei has always had a hurdle in his heart: his resentment towards his biological father and his own birth. If his mother hadn't had him, would she have had an easier and better life?
“You have never been a burden; my son is a gift from God.”
"Go to sleep. We'll take your mother home tomorrow."
The woman in the dream was exactly the same as she had been ten years ago, unchanged. She lowered her head and gently touched Erhei's cheek with her forehead, just like her mother often did when she was a child to comfort him.
Erhei just wanted this dream to last a little longer, so he could see the woman's face a few more times.
