The man's arms were bulging with veins, and blood dripped from the friction between his elbows and the stone wall.
His entire arm was covered in blood, with a few drops brushing against Meng Jiuyi's cheek. Only now did she realize that this was not a dream, and the tears that slid down her cheeks were so hot.
The weight of both of them rested solely on Tan Yuchen's arm. He stared at her without blinking, his hoarse voice showing no sign of trembling.
"pay close attention!"
As he struggled to pull her up, Yan Chen immediately grabbed Gao Xianyue's arm. After Gao Xianyue was halfway up the rooftop, Yan Chen grabbed Meng Jiuyi's hand on her ankle and forcefully pried it outwards. Meng Jiuyi couldn't control herself and slid down, but her wrist was suddenly grabbed by a strong hand.
Tan Yuchen quickly pulled her up, grabbed her waist and pushed her to the center of the rooftop. Yan Chen kicked at her, but Tan Yuchen dodged to the side and pounced on him, wrestling with him.
Tan Yuchen's eyes were sinister as he grabbed his collar and punched him repeatedly in the face, as if a god of death had possessed him and Yama had been reincarnated.
Blood gushed from Yan Chen's mouth. He blocked it with his hand while seizing the opportunity to stab the other man with his Swiss Army knife.
A cold, sharp blade flashed in the night sky. Meng Jiuyi: "Be careful."
Tan Yuchen dodged to the side, his arm immediately slashed open, drawing blood. Yan Chen threw a punch at him, taking the opportunity to look at Gao Xianyue.
"Run!"
This man was well-versed in martial arts; he probably wouldn't be able to escape today. No sooner had he finished speaking than Tan Yuchen intercepted his arm. Tan Yuchen used a ruthless move, and with a snap, dislocated his arm.
The heart-wrenching screams stopped Gao Xianyue, who was about to run downstairs.
Like a beast driven to its wits' end, Yan Chen gripped his knife and stabbed it fiercely at Tan Yuchen. The man had plenty of time to dodge, but he stubbornly allowed the knife to pierce his shoulder. Behind him, Meng Jiuyi's choked sobs could be heard.
"Tan Yuchen!"
The man had his back to Meng Jiuyi, so she couldn't see his expression, but Yan Chen could see it clearly. Tan Yuchen's eyes held a ferocity that could freeze everything, but the corners of his mouth curled up in a mocking smile.
Thank you.
After saying that, he grabbed Yan Chen's wrist and pulled him up halfway. He then grabbed Yan Chen's neck and slammed his head against the floor. The loud thud as Yan Chen's head hit the ground knocked him half unconscious. Tan Yuchen then picked up a knife from the ground and plunged it three inches below Yan Chen's ribs before pulling it out and throwing it into the sink next to him.
By the time the police arrived, the two men had already finished fighting. Blood was flowing down Tan Yuchen's chest, and a knife was still stuck in his shoulder. He looked more like a victim.
Yan Chen, using his last bit of strength, took Gao Xian Yue hostage. He gripped her neck and retreated step by step towards the edge of the high-rise building, but in reality, he used no force at all.
The police rushed to the scene and, before they could even understand the situation, pointed their guns at him and warned him to drop the hostages.
Gao Xian Yue's teeth chattered. "What are you doing? Run!"
"I can't run away anymore."
The man's seemingly casual stab actually pierced his hepatic artery; he probably won't even have time to get to the hospital.
Fresh blood kept spilling from Yan Chen's mouth, he said softly.
"Gao Xian Yue, look forward. Stop living in the past. If you're willing to let go, that dark cloud will have already left you."
He spent so many years trying to help Gao Xian Yue become the kind girl she was in the orphanage again. He had vowed to protect her since childhood, and he should protect her for life. But he failed. Yan Chen couldn't do anything for her; he could only accompany her a little longer on this path.
Gao Xian Yue's lips trembled, but her face remained cold.
"Whether I let go or not is none of your business. Do you think you're some kind of savior?"
Yan Chen laughed and said, "If only I could be your savior, I would know in advance what you were going to go through before you went to the Gao family, and then stop you earlier... cough cough..."
He coughed up blood. "I know you stopped believing in these things a long time ago, and you think I have ulterior motives for staying by your side, but I still want to tell you—"
After saying that, Yan Chen pushed her forward, and Gao Xian Yue fell to the ground. Numbly looking back, she saw Yan Chen fall down and hear the sound of his arms.
Lou Yu's voice cut across Gao Xianyue's face, while simultaneously sending his words into her ears.
"I like you."
She stared blankly at the towering building, her heart feeling as if it had shattered into pieces.
As soon as Jiang Zhou appeared on the rooftop, he saw Tan Yuchen lying on the ground like a rag doll, his body covered in blood. He was so frightened that he almost knelt down and immediately called for a doctor.
Someone squatted down beside him to check his injuries, not daring to move him easily.
Tan Yuchen opened his eyes, and everything in the world was blurry. He stared at the soulless figure not far away. Meng Jiuyi's face was pale. He dared not go forward to check how badly he was injured, as if he would be alright if he didn't check.
She might really be some kind of jinx, otherwise why would one person after another get into trouble because of her?
A pool of water surged before her eyes, and Tan Yuchen reached out his hand to her, his hoarse voice carrying a low, coaxing tone of someone who had lost something and then found it again.
"...How long do you plan to stay there?"
Meng Jiuyi then tried to move his feet, but his legs felt like lead and he collapsed to the ground before he could reach him.
Tan Yuchen's breath was weak. "I might die."
The pool of blood behind him was growing larger and larger, leaving no doubt that he was truly on the verge of death.
Meng Jiuyi's tears rolled down his cheeks and fell to the ground. His lips trembled, and he spoke incoherently.
"Why did you come...why did you come?!"
"...If I don't bring that 200,000, who will pay my bill?"
"You're still joking at a time like this! You bastard!"
Meng Jiuyi wanted to use every vicious word in the world to curse him, but tears streamed down her face.
He was bleeding so much that Meng Jiuyi didn't know where to put her hand on his chest, and a low moan escaped her throat.
Tan Yuchen gently wiped away her tears with his fingers, his gaze fixed on her.
"Why did you jump down on your own initiative?" He arrived late, but if he had arrived any later, he wouldn't have been able to stop her.
Meng Jiuyi avoided eye contact.
"I had no choice but to take the initiative. I was being held hostage and had no other option. Now that you're so badly injured, why are you saying all this?"
Tears streamed down her face as Tan Yuchen smiled.
"Is she crying for me?"
Meng Jiuyi's lips trembled, and she couldn't speak.
"Will you burn paper money for me after I'm buried?"
"Stop talking! You foul-mouthed bastard." Meng Jiuyi hated him for saying whatever came to mind. She shoved him angrily, and the man's brows furrowed, his face turned pale, and he looked like he was on the verge of death.
"Tan Yuchen... Tan Yuchen..."
She was like a child who had done something wrong, and immediately dared not move.
Tan Yuchen put his arm around her shoulder and let her lean on his arm. His voice was weak, but it couldn't hide his stubbornness.
"Let me hug you, a hug might prolong my life a little longer."
Even though Meng Jiuyi knew he was talking nonsense, she still didn't dare to move, afraid of touching his wound.
The person who claimed to be critically ill hugged her so tightly, so forcefully, that even their dark eyes were filled with lingering fear.
"Meng Jiuyi, you better live well from now on."
His lips touched the top of her head, and he slowly said, "Remember that I risked my life to save you today. If you ever dare to get hurt in the slightest, I will crawl back from the underworld to find you."
Meng Jiuyi's tears fell fiercely; he could be considered a threat, yet her heart kept clenching.
"With your outrageous behavior, do you think the King of Hell would dare to take you in?"
Tan Yuchen chuckled softly, offering no rebuttal.
Meng Jiuyi didn't hear his reply for a long time, and her heart kept sinking.
"Tan Yuchen... Tan Yuchen, don't sleep!"
Tan Yuchen opened his eyes a crack, "...Is there any reward for being obedient?"
Yes! Yes!
"For example, increasing that two hundred thousand to one million?"
