Chapter 53 I'll bring you back a dozen

Everyone turned to look, and Tan Yuchen was walking into the flower hall. His chiseled facial features appeared casual and relaxed in the backlight, and he remained calm and composed even under everyone's gaze.

Every footstep tickled Meng Jiuyi's ears. She didn't turn around. Tan Yuchen brushed past her, the cuff of his off-white shirt brushing against her forearm, tickling her like an electric shock.

The man's appearance was like a fireball thrown into still water, causing bubbles to rise rapidly, and everyone's faces lit up with joy.

As soon as he sat down, Tan Yuchen was slapped several times on the back.

The old woman scolded, "You little rascal, you finally know how to come back? You're just trying to make yourself look good. Look at yourself, what's so upright about you?"

Tan Yuchen winced in pain but didn't flinch.

"Alright, alright, your grandson is just a toad. Be careful your old hand doesn't hurt. Or should we have someone else do it for you?"

"You're just trying to trick this old woman! You can't even see a soul when you go out."

"How could I dare? You can ask Aunt Zhang if you don't believe me."

Tan Yuchen said lazily, "They called me so many times they've made me an unregistered resident."

Aunt Zhang laughed and said that when the young master called, she was most likely taking a nap. The old lady had been sleeping a lot during the day and night because she was sick, so she missed the call.

"He is always thinking of you while he is away."

The old lady was clearly appeased by him, and Tan Ni secretly took revenge on him for not allowing her to see Xu Yanzhi.

“My brother is away for more than half a month every time. Grandma, you should find a sister-in-law to keep an eye on him and see how he can run around like that.”

Tan Yuchen squinted at her, and Tan Ni was instantly frightened, making a gesture as if she were sewing her mouth shut.

The old lady, after hearing this, advised Tan Yuchen, "You're not getting any younger, and I still want to hold my great-grandchild while I'm still in good health."

Shen Yuan's heart stirred.

Tan Yuchen casually said, his hand resting on the sofa, "That's easy. Since you've given such a firm order, I'll bring you a dozen tomorrow."

The old lady was so angry that she swung the stick at him again.

It's truly a misfortune for the Tan family. In three generations, not only has no history of womanizing, but there has never been a single divorce or remarriage.

Unfortunately, this rascal's scandalous affair caused quite a stir throughout Kyushu. The old lady knew he was really daring, so she stopped mentioning marriage.

"He probably has a dozen kids outside, enough to form a football team," Meng Jiuyi thought to himself.

What was the name of the supermodel who was in the entertainment news with him the other day? Selina? Lina?

Tang Ning didn't even last two months; this person gets bored with things so quickly.

She stood quietly to the side, her presence barely noticeable, but unexpectedly, Tan Yuchen turned his head and caught her grumbling gaze.

His eyes were unfathomable and captivating.

Seeing that she was subtly avoiding him, clearly not wanting to get involved openly, he knew it, but he still insisted on doing the opposite.

"Jiu Yi is here too?"

"...."

Meng Jiuyi's voice was barely audible, "Cousin."

Tan Yuchen's eyebrows twitched slightly, and he said slowly, "It's really true, I haven't thanked you yet."

That happened hundreds of years ago.

"Cousin, you're being too serious. It's what I should do."

"Are you fully recovered yet?"

Tan Yuchen said, "Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor Chen is here today, let's ask him to come over and take my pulse."

After saying that, he gave the maid a look. Dr. Chen was the family doctor who was taking care of the old lady's health, and he would come up every other day.

It's only natural for a cousin to care about his cousin, especially since she fell into the water at Tanjia Village. With that relationship, any other issues would fade away.

Pretending to be kind.

Xie Youze's words were still ringing in her ears; Meng Jiuyi couldn't believe he genuinely cared about her.

She looked up and smiled. "Thank you so much, cousin. It couldn't be better. I only remembered this because you asked."

Meng's father scolded her for not knowing how to speak and stepped in to smooth things over.

"Yu Chen, don't worry about it. Jiu Yi has been quiet and introverted since she was a child. She has no bad intentions."

Quiet and introverted.

Tan Yuchen stared at her with his dark eyes and said slowly, "I feel the same way. She looks well-behaved and obedient. She would probably blush if she told a lie."

Meng Jiuyi: "..."

...

Tan Yuchen went out for a while and didn't return by the time of the luncheon.

The old lady sent someone to inquire, and the servant said that the third young master had already gone down the mountain. Before she could even voice her complaints, Tan Sheng returned.

He should be busy at the company right now, why did he suddenly go home?

The old lady's unintentional remark earlier, coupled with the way Tan Sheng looked at Meng Jiuyi at the last banquet, all contributed to this.

Feng Lan immediately became wary.

At the dinner table, Tan Sheng and Meng Jiuyi were separated by Tan Ni. They ate and slept in silence, and did not communicate except when the old lady asked them questions. Tan Sheng took Tan Ni's and Meng Yintong's bowls and served them fish soup.

Meng Jiuyi came last.

"Thank you, cousin."

Meng Jiuyi stared at the ribs in front of her, not looking at him at all, and even less willing to meet his gaze.

She overheard Shen Yuan chatting with the old lady, saying that she went to the United States in middle school and was quite familiar with the western region.

"Grandma, next time Yuchen goes to America, you have to tell me, okay? I'll be your host."

The old lady sighed, knowing full well what she was thinking.

But fate can't be forced. No one can make decisions for him unless this rascal in the family agrees.

Based on her years of experience in judging people, Shen Yuan and Tan Yuchen's personalities are incompatible, and there is no need to pair them up as a mismatched couple.

What has your father been busy with lately?

"I received a political assignment to collaborate with the Ministry of Culture to produce an original play, which will be staged at the Kyushu Theater in October."

Kyushu Theater?

Meng Jiuyi looked up and suddenly stared at her.

Just over two weeks ago, every word of the news about Gao Xianyue was still in my mind; she said she had applied to be a cellist at the Kyushu Theater.

The old lady's response was mixed with laughter. Meng Jiuyi's eyes were clear, and he did not look away for a moment. There was a cluster of flames like bean sprouts flickering in his eyes.

The phone vibrated twice. Meng Jiuyi opened it and saw a message from Tan Sheng.

[Xiao Jiu, can I spend some time alone with you later?]

Tan Sheng came back today because he wanted to see her; he was so thinking about her that he almost couldn't eat or drink.

After what happened with Xu Yanzhi last time, given Meng Jiuyi's cautious nature, she would never travel alone with him again, especially since this is the Tan family's residence.

But Meng Jiuyi glanced at Chen Yuan and then lowered his head to type.

【good. 】
