Feng Chan asked who Master Qingzhu was, where she was from, and whose family she married into. She also inquired about her current residence.
"I'm staying at an inn."
"So, are you planning to stay at the inn indefinitely? Or find a nunnery to live in?" She wouldn't let her stay at the manor until the matter was clarified.
Master Qingzhu was furious. However, before she left, her mother repeatedly warned her to hide her hatred. "I plan to find a nunnery to stay in temporarily. I don't have many people to help me, nor do I have the ability to find out if you are my daughter. Do you... do you want to find out? I... I'm really not a good mother. I shouldn't have only thought about my own feelings."
As she spoke, Abbess Qingzhu began to cry.
Feng Chan offered a few words of advice. "I won't keep you any longer; I have other matters to attend to."
Abbess Qingzhu cursed Feng Chan in her heart again. "What about what I just told you?"
"I'll write a letter to my husband and see what he thinks. You know I came from the Hundred Flowers Brothel, and I don't have any manpower."
Master Qingzhu cried again. "If you really are my daughter, then I really am... I am truly unworthy of being a mother."
"Don't say that. You didn't do it on purpose. Besides, maybe we just happen to look alike. Your daughter just happens to not look like you."
Master Qingzhu wiped away her tears. "I hope so too. Otherwise... otherwise I really don't know how to face you. We'll take our leave now, you go ahead with your work."
“Alright.” Feng Chan called the steward in. “See my three masters off for me.”
"Yes, please."
After they left, Xiao Mumu rushed into Feng Chan's arms, hugged Feng Chan's waist, tilted her little head up and asked in a childish voice, "Third Aunt, don't you like that person from earlier?"
Feng Chan patted Mu Mu's little head. "I don't like it." Her sister-in-law was truly a fool with good fortune; neither of her two sons resembled her.
Little Mumu blinked. "Why?"
Feng Chan picked up Xiao Mumu and placed her on her lap. "If your mother abandoned you and didn't care about you, would you still love your mother?"
Little Mumu's eyes widened instantly. "Third Aunt, does my mother not like me anymore?" He also abandoned his mother and ran off with his older brother and sister.
Feng Chan was amused by Xiao Mumu's little expression. "No, your mother is an adult and can take care of herself."
Little Mumu was relieved. "Third Aunt, I'd like to drink some more water."
"Okay. Your third aunt will feed you."
"Mmm. Third Aunt, I miss Sixth Sister and Uncle Bai. Uncle Bai is so playful, and Sixth Sister is so amazing."
...
Feng Chan was feeding Xiao Mumu water and chatting with her when Han Dongyu and Liu Menglan walked in from the door.
Han Dongyu and Liu Menglan greeted Feng Chan.
Feng Chan remembered what had just happened. "We encountered three nuns on our way back from the border?"
Liu Menglan doesn't remember.
Han Dongyu immediately remembered. "I've encountered that before. The old man even asked them if they needed a ride. Sister-in-law, why did you suddenly ask about that?"
"They came looking for me. The older one said I might be her daughter."
No way?!
If that's the case, then didn't she do something wrong?
Han Dongyu recounted what had happened back then. "I'm so stupid, how come I didn't notice that the older nun looked like you?"
“You’re not stupid. Weren’t you just staring at her eyes?” Dongyu had told her that after encountering a few bad people, she developed a habit of looking at people’s eyes first, and only looking at other things after understanding their eyes.
Han Dongyu nodded. "I should change this habit."
"No need to change, your habit is fine. Did Lao Hei tell you when he's coming back?" Lao Hei went out to run errands.
"I said it will probably take another month."
Looks like I'll have to go find her future son-in-law. "Have you made any moves yet?"
"No."
"Don't worry if you don't have one yet; having a child is also about fate."
"I know, I'm not in a hurry." She was actually quite anxious, but she didn't want to stop Lao Hei from going out. Lao Hei wasn't the type to revolve around women.
Han Dongyu chatted with Feng Chan for a while before going back to her room.
As soon as Lao Hei left the house, Han Dongyu would come to stay at the Yun family's residence. It wasn't that Han Dongyu was afraid or dared not stay at the mansion.
Han Dongyu wanted to reassure Lao Hei, but she also didn't want others to gossip. She had neither in-laws nor sisters-in-law, making her an easy target for gossip.
These problems wouldn't exist if I lived at the Yun family's house.
Feng Chan also liked to have Han Dongyu stay at the Yun family's house. In Feng Chan's heart, Lao Hei and Lao Bai were both her younger brothers, her own younger brothers.
Feng Chan and Liu Menglan were playing with Xiao Mumu when Grandpa Yun returned.
Little Mumu ran over and hugged Grandpa Yun's leg. "Great-Grandpa, you're back?"
"Hmm." Grandpa Yun gently patted little Mu Mu's head. "Were you a good girl at home today?"
"Sweetie. Three nuns came to our house today. Great-Grandpa, do you know what a nun is?"
"I know. Are they here to beg for alms?"
"No. A nun said she was my third maternal uncle's mother."
"..." So soon someone has come to claim relatives?
Feng Chan looked at Xiao Mu Mu and said, "Go play in the garden with your sister Liu. Your third aunt has something to discuss with your great-grandfather."
"Okay." Xiao Mumu let go of Grandpa Yun's leg and walked towards Liu Menglan, saying, "Great-Grandpa, Third Aunt doesn't like her."
After hearing this, Grandpa Yun thought that Abbess Qingzhu and the others were probably liars.
After Liu Menglan left with Xiao Mumu, Feng Chan told Grandpa Yun what Abbess Qingzhu had told her. "Grandpa, do you think what she said was true or false?"
