Ning Yirong first had the four imperial physicians who had come out with him take the woman from Niu Mingjie's arms, then he had the guards set up a simple tent as quickly as possible. Only then did he look at Niu Mingjie and ask, "What happened?"
Niu Mingjie didn't know either. They were walking along the road when suddenly a group of masked men rushed out. "I don't know. Doctor, is her injury serious?"
The head imperial physician, while treating the woman's wounds, said, "Fortunately, we encountered His Highness. If it had been any later, even a celestial being couldn't have saved her."
Niu Mingjie breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you all for your help."
"You're welcome."
Ning Yirong had a guard bring Niu Mingjie a water pouch. "Don't disturb them. Let them focus on treating that young lady's injuries."

"Don't be shy. Have some water."
"Okay." Niu Mingjie wiped the sweat from his forehead, opened the water bag, and took a few sips of water.
Gou Dan leaned closer to Niu Mingjie and asked curiously, "Uncle Niu, who is that girl?"
"My friend."
"A friend? Not your aunt?"
Niu Mingjie couldn't help but blush.
Dog Egg's eyes lit up immediately. Something's up! "Uncle Niu, do you like that girl?"
Ning Yi's eyes lit up. This guy is finally getting married! "Niu Xiaosan, that girl's surname isn't Xu, is it? And those injuries she sustained weren't from protecting you, were they?"
Niu Mingjie's face turned even redder. "Her surname is Xu, and she was injured while protecting me."
Seeing that Niu Mingjie had stopped talking, Gou Dan tugged at Niu Mingjie's sleeve. "Third Uncle Niu, what about my question? You haven't answered my question yet."
Ning Yirong ruffled Gou Dan's hair. "Silly boy, do you even need to answer that? Look how anxious your Uncle Niu was just now!"
Ning Yirong teased Niu Mingjie and asked him who he had offended.
It's impossible for an official to avoid offending anyone.
On the other side, the masked men who attacked Niu Mingjie and Niu Mingjie's followers were fighting fiercely when Lao Hei suddenly led his men to rush over.
The masked leader was stunned when he saw Old Black. "Old Black?! Brothers, stop!"
The other masked men stopped immediately upon hearing the words "Blackie".
Niu Mingjie's entourage breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the words "Blackie".
Old Hei originally planned to beat the other guy to a pulp, but the other guy stopped fighting as soon as he saw him.
Old Hei was very frustrated! "Who are you? Why did you ambush Lord Niu Mingjie?"
The masked leader was stunned again upon hearing this. "Was that man General Niu's third son?" No wonder he managed to summon Blackie. But something didn't make sense.
The masked leader pulled a portrait from his pocket. "Boss Hei, the client said that the man just now was his older brother. The client said that his older brother often brings his sister-in-law here to look for orchids, so we'll wait for him here."
Old Hei suspected a trap. "Open it."
"good."
The masked leader unfolded the portrait, and Lao Hei looked at it and confirmed it was indeed Niu Mingjie. "Who hired you?"
The masked leader quickly spoke.
Firstly, even if they were all combined, they wouldn't be a match for Lao Hei.
Secondly, their employer actually ordered them to kill General Niu's third son?!
Isn't this just setting them up for failure?!
General Niu's third son is the Crown Princess's beloved. If the Crown Princess knew Niu Mingjie was dead, wouldn't she search the whole world for them? And once she found them, wouldn't she skin them alive and tear out their tendons?
"Brother Hei, we really didn't know that the man just now was General Niu's third son. If we had known, we wouldn't have dared to lay a hand on him even if we had ten lives. General Niu's third son is the Crown Princess's... um... sworn brother."
Old Black ignored him.
If he really didn't know who Niu Mingjie was, he would be making a huge fool of himself as an assassin.
Pretending not to know when you do would be too cunning. He hates dealing with cunning people.
Old Hei tapped them a few times, and they were instantly immobilized.
Old Black clapped his hands. "Take him away."
"yes!"
The guards responded and tied them up, then threw them onto the horse.
It's so easy to go out on business with Uncle Hei.
Niu Mingjie's entourage was having trouble keeping up.
Is that all?
Just as Niu Mingjie finished telling Ning Yirong who he had offended, Lao Hei returned.
Old Hei pulled the masked leader off his horse and threw him at Niu Mingjie's feet. "Tell him what you just said again. He's the victim."
"Alright. Lord Niu, we really don't know who you are. We..."
Niu Mingjie frowned upon hearing this.
Ning Yirong listened and thought for a moment, then realized that the Ding brothers weren't among the people Niu Mingjie had mentioned. "Niu Xiaosan, have you ever taken Miss Xu there before?"
"No."
"Then why did you take Miss Xu there today?"
“I heard there are many wild orchids there.”
"Who told you that?"
"I can't remember. It seems...it seems like she was a little maid."
"...Dog Egg, what do you think is going on here?"
Dog Egg thought for a moment. "I think they picked up the wrong portrait."
"Niu Xiaosan, what about you?"
"I feel so wronged."
Ning Yirong thought to himself, "You two little idiots," then looked at Niu Mingjie and asked, "Are you going to stay here and watch over Miss Xu, or are you coming with me to the Ding family?"
Niu Mingjie wanted to stay with Xu Muwan. "Are you going to interrogate Ding Lao Er yourself?"
"Um."
"Then...then I'll go with you."
"You should stay here and watch over Miss Xu. She was injured because of you."
