Chapter 5

After two days of exams, it was the weekend.

Xia Chenxi thought of her grandmother who passed away when she was nineteen years old, before her rebirth, so she planned to visit her grandmother today.

She packed her things, sent a message to Xia Yanran to explain the situation, and asked her to go home first.

She put on her backpack and prepared to take a shortcut to catch the bus according to the route she remembered. As she was about to turn the corner, she heard the sounds of fists and kicks in the alley.

"You little brat, we're willing to take your money because we're giving you face! You still think you're so great just because you have a few bucks, right?"

"Brother, this kid must have a lot of money on him that he hasn't handed over yet, we have to beat him harder!"

Xia Chenxi carefully poked her head out and saw several teenagers surrounding a man and beating him up. After thinking for a while, she took out her phone and called the police...

She is not a martial arts master. Even if she wanted to help, she had to save people while protecting herself. She would never just rush forward without caring about anything and end up being beaten up by the gangsters together with that person.

After I explained the situation to the police officer, he asked for the address and said it would only take two minutes to get there. There happened to be a police station nearby, so we got here very quickly.

Xia Chenxi thought about it and observed secretly. Seeing that the guys over there were fighting quite fiercely, he found the siren sound of the police car in the music app on his mobile phone.

She turned down the volume, then slowly turned it up a little at a time, imitating the sound of a police car approaching.

"Boss, are there sirens?"

"Fuck, could someone have seen us and called the police? Let's go!"

A few hooligans immediately left the man behind and were about to leave. Xia Chenxi felt relieved when she saw that they were running to the other side.

She then walked up to the man who had been beaten and discovered that he was wearing the school uniform of No. 1 Middle School!

"Classmate, are you okay?" Xia Chenxi squatted down and saw that he was covered in wounds, and did not dare to touch him.

Zhao Fangcheng opened his eyes and saw that it was her. He said, "Xia...Chenxi...Call the police..."

Xia Chenxi: “……?” How did he know her name?

"I've called the police. You're seriously injured. I'll call 120 for you." Xia Chenxi took out his cell phone and was about to call 120 when two policemen came over. "Did you call the police?"

"It's me. This classmate was just surrounded and beaten. It seemed that a few thugs wanted to blackmail him. His injuries are quite serious. I was about to call an ambulance." Xia Chenxi explained.

One of the policemen was already dialing 120, while Xia Chenxi and another policeman went aside to give their statements, briefly describing what they had seen.

The person who beat this boy has to wait for the boy to come forward and testify.

Xia Chenxi was delayed for a while because of this matter. In addition, this time was the peak time for getting off work and school, and the traffic was very congested. By the time she got off the car, it was almost 7 o'clock.

Xia Chenxi arrived at the door of the house that her parents had arranged for her grandmother and rang the doorbell.

The moment the door opened, Xia Chenxi's eyes moistened when she saw her grandmother whom she hadn't seen for a long time. "Grandma, I'm here to see you."

"Chenxi is here, come in and sit down. Did you come here just after school?" Grandma smiled and invited Xia Chenxi to come in and sit down. The wrinkles on her face became obvious with this smile.

Xia Chenxi sniffed and nodded, "Yes, there was a big traffic jam on the road, so we arrived late."

"Have you eaten? Grandma has some food here."

Xia Chenxi shook her head, and her grandmother immediately went to heat up a few buns for her. She ate the buns, which were clearly ordinary meat buns, but she found them delicious.

As soon as she tasted it, she knew that these were the buns made by her grandmother and she hadn't eaten them for several years.

"Have you told your parents why you came so late?" asked grandma.

"Not yet. I'm sending a message to my mom now." Xia Chenxi took out his cell phone and was about to send a message, but found that the phone was out of battery.

She put the phone aside and said, "Forget it, I've told my sister, and she will tell our parents." Probably.

Xia Chenxi calculated the time and caught the last bus of the night to go back.

At 9:30 in the evening, Xia Chengnan and Lu Shulan were running around in a panic at home.

"Where did this child go? His phone was turned off when I called him, and he only said he had something to do. What should I do? Could something have happened?" Lu Shulan was extremely anxious.

"I've already sent someone to look for it. Don't leave. Going back and forth will only make you more and more anxious." Xia Chengnan said.

Old Madam Xia hugged Xia Zichen and snorted coldly, saying, "That little girl came from the countryside. She was not well managed in the countryside. It's already past nine o'clock. Which child doesn't go home so late like her? I told you not to take her back. What's the point of taking her back? Her academic performance is so poor, and she spent more than three million to get into No. 1 Middle School!"

"Now, Chengnan, your business has run into problems again. Are you having trouble making ends meet? But she is so good that she doesn't come home at this late hour, causing you so much trouble! She is such a jinx!"

"Mom, don't be so superstitious. There is no such thing as an unlucky star or not. It's just bad luck and all the things happened at the same time." Xia Chengnan frowned.

Old Madam Xia snorted coldly.

It was nine forty when Xia Chenxi finally got home. She rang the doorbell, and Lu Shulan quickly opened the door. Seeing her standing at the door, she almost cried, "You kid, why is your phone always turned off when I call you? I was so worried, where have you been?"

"I went to see my grandma." Xia Chenxi was puzzled, "Didn't Yanran tell you?"

"Sister, just tell me to come back first." Xia Yanran said innocently.

Xia Chenxi: “…” I clearly saw a message before saying that I was going to my grandma’s house.

"Okay, okay, come in, have you eaten?" Lu Shulan asked.

"I've eaten." Xia Chenxi said.

"You are a girl, and you come back so late at night. Are you trying to cause trouble for the family?" Old Madam Xia suddenly asked, "If you want to visit your grandmother, why don't you go during the day tomorrow, Saturday? Why do you have to go at night?"

Xia Chenxi blinked innocently, "I just suddenly missed grandma, so I went to see her."

"Humph!" Old Madam Xia: "Then why don't you just live with your grandmother? What a jinx!"

Xia Chenxi's expression suddenly became a little unnatural. Could it be that at this time, there were problems in Dad’s company?

Before she was reborn, she clearly remembered that nothing was going on in her father's company at this time. Was it because she was reborn earlier, or was it because she knew it too late before her rebirth?

"Okay, I'm glad the child is back. Chenxi, go back to your room and rest first, and ignore your grandma." Xia Chengnan said quickly.

Xia Chenxi nodded.

"Yanran, take your brother back to his room."

After Xia Yanran and Xia Zichen left, Xia Chengnan said, "Mom, company matters are for adults, what are you talking about in front of the child?"

"What's wrong? Shouldn't you let her know? If it wasn't for you giving so much money to the school so that she could go to No. 1 Middle School, how could this happen?" Seeing her son blaming her, Old Lady Xia was immediately dissatisfied, "I'm not wrong, she's a jinx!"

Lu Shulan said with a dark face: "It was my idea to let Chenxi go to No. 1 Middle School. Are you blaming me?"

Upon hearing what Lu Shulan said, Old Madam Xia was speechless. Lu Shulan came from a prominent family, and when she married Xia Chengnan, she was marrying down. Old Madam Xia had never had confidence facing this daughter-in-law. If it weren't for Lu Shulan's dowry, Xia Chengnan might not be as successful as he is today.

"If there is any problem with Chengnan Company, I will find a way. If it really doesn't work, I can just tell my brother and he will always help." Lu Shulan said.

"No, if you tell your brother, your sister-in-law will definitely have opinions again." Xia Chengnan said quickly: "Don't let your brother be caught in the middle. I will think of a way myself. If it doesn't work, I will tell your brother."

Lu Shulan nodded.

In fact, after seeing Xia Yanran taking Xia Zichen back to the room, Xia Chenxi secretly went back to the second floor and eavesdropped through the wall next to the stairs. After hearing this, she understood the situation.

It seems that she found out about it late because her parents kept this matter a secret before she was reborn. At that time, my grandmother must have been reminded by my parents, so she kept it to herself. Later, when she couldn't hold it in any longer, she said that she was a jinx.

Xia Chenxi returned to her room with mixed feelings, and for a moment she even forgot to consider whether she had told Xia Yanran that she was going to visit her grandmother.

On Sunday, Xia Chenxi got up, dressed up simply, and after having breakfast, she said, "Dad, Mom, I'm going to visit grandma today."

"Okay, let the driver take you there." Lu Shulan said.

"No need. There's a bus that goes directly here." Xia Chenxi said.

Old Madam Xia snorted coldly, "You keep thinking about grandma all day long. She is not your real grandma!"

Xia Chenxi pretended not to hear, and the atmosphere suddenly became awkward.

Not long after Xia Chenxi got ready to go out, the doorbell rang.

"You must have forgotten to take something. There are so many things to do!" Old Madam Xia said with disdain.

The corners of Xia Yanran's mouth curled up slightly. The more her grandma hated Xia Chenxi, the happier she was.

However, when the door was opened, a man and a woman who were both dressed very elegantly appeared.

"Mr. Zhao, why are you here?" Xia Chengnan immediately stood up and went to greet him when he saw someone coming.

When Zhao Gang saw Xia Chengnan, he smiled politely and said, "Boss Xia, I'm here to look for your daughter."

"Looking for my daughter?" Xia Chengnan was puzzled.

"It's like this. Last Friday, your daughter saved my son. Thank you so much. This is a little thank you gift." Zhao Gang said as he handed over a document.

Xia Chengnan stretched out his shaking hands to take the document, and then he heard Zhao Gang say: "This is what you have always wanted. Originally, we were going to cooperate with Qicheng Company for this project, but with what happened the day before yesterday, I thought that sending you something else to express my gratitude would not be enough, so it would be more appropriate to give you what you need most right now."

Madam Zhao said, "Your daughter is really well-behaved. Two days ago, our son was surrounded and beaten in an alley. If it were an ordinary person, they would probably run away and pretend that they didn't see anything. If she hadn't saved my son, he might..."

Xia Chengnan looked at Xia Yanran. Xia Yanran came back early on Friday, at the same time as usual, and the driver picked her up directly. So, it was Xia Chenxi who saved the life?

"Mr. Zhao, you're too polite. Was it Chenxi who discovered it?" Lu Shulan asked.

"Yes, yes, that brat in my family said that the little girl's name was this." Zhao Gang nodded.

Xia Yanran gripped the chopsticks, her fingertips turned white, and her teeth were clenched tightly.

Even though she didn't understand her father's work, she knew that the man was no small figure when she saw her father being so polite to him.

Why is Xia Chenxi so lucky?

After Mr. Zhao and his wife left, Xia Chengnan smiled and said to Old Madam Xia, "Look, Mom, I told you that Chenxi is not a jinx. Look, she has brought me good luck!"

Old Madam Xia didn't know much about business. Seeing her son so excited, she thought the contract was very important, so she looked embarrassed and kept silent.
